I decided to get out of the house and take a drive. No real destination in my head, just get on…read morethe road and see where I go. I ended up in the Deep Creek area and was enjoying the scenery. Of course I needed to refuel on many levels, I started out for a gas station/convenience store. And with me, you know I needed to see if my favorite one was in the area. Of course there was, and of course I beat feet until I arrived here. It's a newer looking Sheetz, but on a small footprint. It feels pared down, but it also feels as if it fits in perfectly for the area. It is constantly busy, there was a steady flow of people here, it was hard to find a place to park let alone a pump to get gas. What complicates this area a little more is that there is a car wash right behind the Sheetz. As far as I can tell, it is not owned by Sheetz. In order to access the car wash you need to drive through the Sheetz parking lot. On top of that, when everyone wants a car wash I am sure this is probably a horrible place to be. Inside I made my rounds. Used the facilities, super clean. Browsed the shelves for a snack, they were aplenty. Grabbed a drink from the cooler, make sure to pay attention to pricing, sometimes there are deals. Made my way to pay and this was one of the most pleasant interactions I had all day. The lady behind the counter was so chipper and greeted everyone as if she knew every single person that walked in here.

The young lady who was working Thursday night (11/10/16), "Angel", was as sweet as can be. She welcomed us with a smile and gave us some tips on where to find some place to eat the next day. The next morning, my husband and I returned to the station to pick up some coffee and a quick breakfast. There was a young man behind the register and an older lady in the back by the coffee. Neither one of these employees made eye contact or smiled when we greeted them, but we felt their stares as we got coffee and sat down in a booth to eat a sandwich even though we asked if it was okay to sit down in the booth to eat. We left thinking, maybe they were upset they had to work on a holiday? We returned later that evening to buy some bottled water and another older gentleman was behind the register carrying on a conversation with a young lady about correctional officers in a women's prison who if I am not mistaken had exposed themselves to the female inmates. Whatever, none of my business... I got the merchandise I wanted to buy ready and placed it on the counter once the young lady had left and the counter was clear. I tried to make eye contact with the man at the register and said, "hello, how are you?" but he ignored me and instead rang me up complaining that his scanner would not work properly. As I paid him, again I smiled and tried to engage him but he avoided my efforts. Okay, so why should I care right? I guess where I come from people actually try to be nice if they work in customer service, so it was weird to be totally ignored. This Sunoco was a really welcomed sight along this stretch of road. Not much else is around and because of that it seems to be a very busy place among the locals. Gas prices were the norm for Pennsylvania. Inside they have all that you would expect from a convenience store and then some. I walked into the store and stood behind two men who were in conversation with the clerk. I heard one man say "Come on. Just certify the ticket and we'll split the money." Before the clerk could reply, the second man turned and saw me - they quickly exited the store. I asked the clerk about the pump not registering credit cards. She said all the pumps' card readers were down . . . again. I said I needed to fill my tank and offered to leave my car keys or a cash deposit. She said "No. You've got to leave your credit card." After just witnessing the attempt to cash in a bogus lottery ticket at this store, I wasn't about to leave my credit card for 5 or 10 minutes while I filled up my gas tank. I declined to leave my card and said I'd go to the other BFS out on Bowers Lane. The clerk said "Bye!" and waved me out the door with a single-finger salute. I have not purchased gas from any BFS station since that incident.
