We were new to Georgia when we first joined SAE. We were originally told our child would be placed in Pre-K 4 even though their birthday is after the September 1st cutoff. Imagine our surprise after they took our money and we signed a contract that they put our child in Pre-K 3. Their excuse was we need to see if they can adapt to the SAE way. Thats fair enough, but they never moved our child to Pre-K 4, even after they passed all of their assessments. Nonetheless, she had a good teacher and the teacher tested her and stated she definitely should be in Kindergarten and not Pre-K for the upcoming fall school year. This we already were aware of since we work with our children at home. We had a meeting with the SAE administration and they refused to move our child to Kindergarten. Mind you our child wouldn't be the only child who has been moved up and this is a private education system. We are paying for it so the reasons that were given weren't justifiable. They wanted us to try the Pre-K 4 program since its equivalent to public Kindergarten( their words not mines) and then evaluate the move to Kindergarten. That failed miserably as an incident took place with the pre-k 4 teachers that prompted our immediate removal of our child all together. "When we called the pre-k 3 teacher that we had the previous school year, she stated she was glad we were done with that place and although the incident is unfortunate I'm glad your child is no longer there". Those are very concerning words coming from a teacher/staff member. All in all it has been such a blessing in disguise! After leaving SAE, we weren't sure what direction to go in as far as childcare since we knew our child was too advanced for childcare center or daycare. So we looked into homeschooling and co ops. Prior to placement they tested our child and they tested on a 1st grade level! Here we are advocating for our child to be in kindergarten and we should have been advocating for 1st grade! Imagine if we would have stayed at SAE. We would be doing a disservice to our child as they would be in Pre-K 4 and not learning on the level they should be. Again if your child operates outside of the standard or on an advanced level do not send your child to SAE. Just for safety concerns alone, dont send your child here. Always ask your child how their day was and listen to them. Actively listen to them, had we not done so our child would still be here. Thank God our child spoke up!

I was also concerned about the lack of education and stimulation my child was receiving at her previous daycare. Upon enrolling, we immediately were made to feel important and a part of the school. Ms. Maddox was there to greet us at the door on our first day and even gave me a small gift as a token of appreciation. At first my 3 year old was unsure of what to think of her new environment, but she adjusted quickly and has loved her school ever since. What I appreciate most about this school is the level of concern that Ms. Maddox and Ms. Givens show to every family. When we step into the building, every teacher / grandmother volunteer greets us with a warm welcome by name. Most importantly, my child's day is packed with creative, educational activities. There is not a second where the students are left with nothing to do (this was a major concern for me at her previous school, as this creates chaos in the classroom). I also appreciate that the school makes an effort on a regular basis to encourage parental involvement through fun projects and homework assignments. Though she and her classmates are only three and four years old, the teachers still provide advanced-level education that is still age appropriate. Every Wed. the kids take Spanish, and they regularly get science and history lessons, and are expected to stand up and present during Show 'n' Tell. I love the level of detail put into ensuring that my child has a well-rounded learning environment. For example, the students are expected to sign in each day so that they learn to recognize their names. The teachers are also required to read a minimum of two books to the students each day. The kids are provided with fresh cooked, healthy meals each day (not anything from a can or that contains a bunch of sugar). Overall, I love ASOE. I have not had any major concerns with this school's operations. This is the best decision that I could have made for my child and her future.

I watched vehicles parking, driving on - and over - sidewalks with kids walking on them. They block the road for a solid hour to the point that no emergency vehicles could possibly get through. They don't direct traffic, though they do have people standing in the middle of the road. This has to stop, it's dangerous. Don't send your kids here if you care about them.

I remember my first day just like it was yesterday. I was accompanied by one of my best friends, who was also making the big switch to a more civilized school. We sat in front of the bathrooms for like 10 minutes trying to figure out which one was for boys and which was for girls. Turned out you just use whichever one is open! In addition to just being an awesome environment, where you are accepted for being whoever you are, Paideia has a great curriculum. The year is divided into short and long terms. In the long terms, you take the standard stuff - physics, math, languages, etc. The short term is for classes that are a little more outside the box - Sociology of American Rock & Roll anyone? The teachers here are absolutely outstanding! You can totally tell that they love the school and truly believe in it's mission. And Paul, the headmaster, is just an all around great guy. Graduation was awesome. My graduating class was 57 people and Paul made a short speech about every single one of us! I am so thankful that I was able to go to Paideia on a scholarship. I regularly give them money so that others can do so as well. I am also backing them in their efforts to take over the whole block! Go Paideia!

As an early childhood professional, I'm impressed with the curriculum and philosophy of Clifton. I'm delighted with the variety of neat activities they do with INFANTS! Who knew so much could be done with babies who can't do more than lie there? It's also impressive & quite unusual that most teachers have been there for YEARS! In a profession with high turnover, that's key. It's readily apparent that the teachers genuinely love those children. I, too, have seen them shed tears when one leaves, or on the last day of their class's time with them. Most importantly, every time I'm there, I see HAPPY kids everywhere. This is a GREAT little school.

Clifton School is truly a one-of-a-kind experience. Things I loved: 1)Smaller class sizes- My son was first in one of the infant classrooms and then transitioned to a toddler classroom. There were about 8 kids per one AM or PM teacher and an additional assistant. 2)Reggio Emilia approach to teaching- You can check out a better definition on Wikipedia. -Basically, the approach believes in discovery learning through exploration and creativity. Each child is allowed his or her own learning style. Group learning is important too (my son at 20 months could say the names of his classmates). There is a curriculum coordinator who goes classroom to classroom to see how the kids are learning. At a point in the year, the coordinator/team calls you to let you know how your child is doing. Also, there are sit down meetings with teachers. -It's actually much bigger than just a way of learning. The approach also believes in an open curriculum so that teachers can change plans based on children learning. -The physical environment is important too. Reggio schools have open areas with piazzas. Kids aren't just shuttled between a small classroom and an outdoor playground. The infant classrooms, for example, are clustered together into a "village" with an open indoor gross motor play area called a piazza. Each village has an outdoor play area as well. This is very unique. I've toured multiple daycares in Kentucky and most are not this open with natural lighting. You might not think this is important but if you were in a small classroom day in an day out you would start feeling cramped too. -The approach believes in parent involvement. Clifton School has a PTA that meets on a regular basis and generates money through fundraising. Each class has at least one class rep. Parents for each classroom are put on an email list, so concerns can be addressed. There are multiple ways in which you can submit concerns from the classroom to the administrative level. This is unique too. Again, multiple daycares in Georgia and Kentucky DO NOT allow this level of parent involvement (eg kindercare, primrose, clarian place). 3)Great use of resources -Each classroom has a digital camera. The teachers take pictures of the kids during the day and write a small one slide powerpoint that goes out to the parents' email list. You really feel connected to what the kids are doing that day. It gave me a smile at the end of my day to see an email with a picture of my son playing a drum. I used to send the email attachments to grandparents to let them know how my little one was doing. -The Clairmont Campus now has access to fresh fruits and vegetables from a local farm. Parents place orders and pick up their produce at the Clairmont location. This is a great sustainable living initiative. -They hire real photographers from the community to come take pictures of kids for class picture day. They have a music teacher who sits down with individual classes. My son got to see someone play a harpsichord when he was 18 months old. 4)Great teachers- great education backgrounds and they love the kids. When my son was about to move, tears were shed by teachers and administration. I really felt like I lost a second family. What I didn't like: 1)It's been mentioned on Google Reviews that the administration isn't responsive to parent concerns. I did have an issue with the closure-due-to weather policy and didn't get feedback. I'm not a pushy parent and ended up not caring. The truth is that there are multiple ways to communicate with the administration, unlike other day cares. If I were pushy enough, I could've brought it up at a PTA meeting. I remember the parents got upset that the teachers were only sending out daily word ppts instead of ppts with pictures, and someone posted a complaint to the parent email listserv. The problem was resolved that week. 2)Clifton School is only open to Emory and CDC employees. I'm not entirely sure of all the reasons for this but it's really not fair to keep this great school confined to a small group of people. Clifton School will now be receiving a Georgia lottery funded pre-K and enrollment has to be open to the community. Maybe this will change their opinions. 3)The price! This school is expensive and I'd like to believe it's worth it. The school grounds, technologies, and equipment are really kept up nicely. Parents of infants have Similac available as an optional part of the program. We cut down on formula costs after the switch to Similac. 4)Long wait list- I applied in late Summer of 2012, delivered Sept 2012, and my son didn't come off the wait list until May 2013. Boy, I could write more but it looks like Yelp won't allow it. I hope this gives a little more info than the angry reviews out there.

My daughter loved going to school and can't wait to start the new year. I highly recommend CHCS!
