One star is ten too many. I scheduled with ADT for a new security system installation, they promised me a sensor on every window and door. The home has 27 windows and 4 doors. The technician was here for 5 hours, snooped around, removed all of the existing sensors, installed sensors on two doors and one window and left. We are considering calling Law enforcement as this was so egregious. He charged me $295 for "extra parts". That charge went through ADT. I strongly recommend using anyone else but this company. Will be reporting them to the BBB, state regulators, and probably law enforcement since we have no contact info for the man who came here to do the job. read more

Informed ADT and the technician that came that I want the promotion installation and price. It turned out that that required a landline, although sales people told me a VOIP line would work. Technician (Mazza) came assessed the situation and found out that I don't have a landline (which I thought I did) and proceeded with the installation (not discussing with me on what he actually did). Its a good thing that I verified the monthly billing fee next morning and found out, it was almost twice the price of what I was expecting. If I wasn't qualified for the special, then why put up the Alarm system in the first place!!! I got it cancelled within the 3-day Trial and they came and remove the system quickly (which is great) but now I have Ceiling and wall damage from the parts they removed! Not a good experience... This company gets all of their money by lying to their customers and scamming them. Received a promotion for $27.99 security system and the original rep from ADT was making the process sound super easy. The rep arrived at my house and then tried up selling me all this equipment and said that he didn't make any money off up selling ( which I find hard to believe ). He then convinced us that the $52.99 would be the best option for us because we have smart phones, so we trusted him and went with that plan. He went over billing, what date the charge would come out, and that all turned out to be wrong. They charged the wrong account and not the amount they said they would. Also I thought I was working with and ADT rep this whole time and it turned out to be Defenders. Doesn't seem like Defenders has their customers best interest and for such a reputable company I thought ADT was, I am surprised they are contracted with a company like Defenders. Also when I called Defenders to cancel my service, the sales manager laughed at me and basically said I lied about my whole experience. I contacted this company for an alarm installation. I was quoted 27.99 per month, with two free key fobs, 15 sensors. When the technician came out, he told me that the 15 sensors had to be pre-wired, that I only got one key fob (although he offered to sell me a second one.) I was already disappointed but decided to go ahead with it. After doing a "survey" of my home, he tried to sell me thousands of dollars' worth of additional equipment. I told him that I only wanted the basic security system that I was quoted over the phone (their reference #8386463). He then proceeded to do the installation. When he was finished, he produced a monthly contract of 52.99 per month. I told him that I expected 27.99. I mailed a cancellation letter on 6/24/2019, within the 3 days that I was contractually allowed to cancel. I also called their customer service department to cancel. After 15 minutes of trying to resell me their product, which I declined a number of times, I was told that I would need to speak to a customer service manager. I was placed on hold for another 15 minutes, then a woman came on and, once again, tried to resell me the service. When I told her that I was not interested, that I just wanted to cancel and for them to get their equipment out of my house, she told me that she was canceling the contract and sending me an email with instructions on home to have the equipment moved. Needless to say, the email never arrived. On 6/25/2019, I called back to cancel. I was immediately shut down by the representative and told that I needed to send them a cancellation notice by mail (I did, the day before) and that they could not do anything further until they received it. The woman who told me that she was canceling, or the representative that told me that there was nothing she could do yet do not have their stories straight. I simply want for them to pick up their equipment, replace the equipment (which they left on the floor) back where it was, and remove themselves from my life. read more

Do not use ADT if you live in Texas. You will end up with a Sub-Contractor called Defenders and they will mislead you. I had Guardian before but a friend of mine told me ADT is better. (He deals directly with ADT) To start, when I called the 800 number to ask about packages I was convinced to have a tech person come out and do a risk assessment. What I didn't know was that I paid $100 for them to do this and that they would be running my credit before I even agreed to go with them. When they asked for my CC # it was to have on file so if I do go with them my monthly dues would go to the CC#. They then asked for my last 4 digits of my SS#. I thought it took the whole SSN to run a credit check. What a surprise that was. The person that did this to me was Evan Lic#15816. I found out all of this when Chris, the risk assessment person, came out and then hit me with a $3-$4k dollar package. So much for the free $800 dollar package. (Evan had also thrown in an additional $239 credit for cameras). On top of this they wanted me to pay $58/month. When I declined to go with them that's when he dropped the bomb that I was going to loose my $100. It's a scam from the start. When I complained about this, Chris called his manager and asked me what I was looking for. I told him I want to stay at the same monthly due as Guardian and that I needed a doorbell camera. He said he would give me the managers special ($28/month) plus $400 in gift cards to help offset the purchase of the camera as well as the misleading I was going through. I agreed to this and the basic was installed as well as the ADT camera which I paid $100 for. The tech also told me that I would be able to get the ADT Pulse so I can monitor my camera. Now keep in mind, with out the ADT Pulse, there's no use for the camera. On the 5th day of using the camera and pulse, it stopped working. I called ADT who says they don't show on record that I have a camera(luckily I show this charge on my CC) and that at the $28/month, I don't have access to the ADT pulse. She then sends me to Defender, who I explain everything to them to be told that I don't have access to the ADT pulse at $28/month. They also tell me I don't show having a ADT camera. I tell them I want them to get all of their stuff out of my house and to cancel the contract. She stated that I'm past the 3 days and that I'm locked in. Coincident the ADT Pulse stopped working on the 5 th day? I''ve now taken this up with ADT and to their management as I was told Defender was going to "investigate" and get back to me. 2 Weeks late I've heard nothing. The good thing is I've documented and have witnesses to this whole affair. If you read this and still want to use them get everything in writing but I warn you, the customer is not right with this company! This is the worst company I've ever done business with. Was told by ADT that, since my home already had a security system, it would not cost much to get it running with ADT and there was an $800 credit against those charges. Still ended up paying around $700. They have been to my house several times over the last two months and some of the equipment has still not been installed. They have shown up without the equipment, failed to show up when they were supposed to, you name it. Now I have a 36-month contract with ADT and this joke of a company. I fault ADT just as much. I was calling around and called ADT for a quote and got this company. When I was quoted they did not identify themselves as Defenders, Inc. installing for ADT. They were pushy telling me that the offer they were giving me was for that day only. I agreed to have someone come out and they told me that they would have to charge me $100 installation fee just to make sure that I would keep the appointment but that it was 100% refundable and that if I decided to go with the company that they would refund me on a VISA gift card. What they failed to mention was that I would have to send away for the gift card by mail, pay $4.95 shipping and handling and I would have to send a money order for that so now I had to go out of my way to get that money order. Plus they actually charged me tax on the installation fee so technically I'm out even more money. That aside, the day came when the installer came to our house. His name was Aaron. He came in and seemed to know about the products. We talked for about 3 hours. By the time we decided to do it, it was late. I understand that he probably wanted to make a sale after being here for so long and also wanted to get home after a long day. But that doesn't take away from doing a good job. The way that he installed the sensors were not correct. The back door sensor started to give us trouble about 1 week in and they had to come replace it. He left the adhesives from the old sensors on the windows. Where he placed motion sensors were not correct. It was just not a good job. Also he placed the key pad in the middle of a wall instead of asking where we wanted it. When I said something about it, he said "oh just call the office have them have a technician come out and move it." How does this help me? DO NOT go with Defenders. I called thinking it was ADT and they act on the phone that they are ADT, they take a $105.78 deposit to hold until the installation. Then you get a confirmation saying it is Defenders and not ADT. I cancelled and a week later have not received a refund for the deposit. It should have never been charged. Still waiting on my refund. They are lie and totally a scam. I will give them one week to refund the deposit, if not I have contacted an attorney and will be having him contact them. I contacted ADT and was transferred to defender inc. a sub contractor. I informed them I wanted a 7in touch screen in my bedroom and I was told it was available. The tech arrived the following day and stated he did not have the device with him but to call the following day to have it dropped of. I contacted ADT and was given an appointment for 2 days later. The day arrived and I received a call from the tech stating Texas ADT did not have those touch screen yet. I then called ADT defender to cancel my contract and spoke with customer service rep TIA ID#100819 and was very rudely told by her nothing can be done and I couldn't speak to her supervisor because she was it, there was No one higher than her. I then contacted corporate ADT and spoke with customer service representative Tony ID#3490 and was told nothing could be done, that either I kept the contract or had to pay for the 36 months of service regardless of being lied to and having these customer service representatives drag out the situation. I was told it didn't matter and nothing could be done. It's sad that a company like ADT has to resort to these types of tactics in order to force customers to remain in their contracts. I will take ADT to court and will glad spend thousands of dollars in litigation so this doesn't happen to someone who might otherwise not have the resources to do so it has only been 6 days since I had the service installed in my home. Worst service ever. Our alarm has not worked one full month in the five years that we have had service with them. We didn't even sign up for service with them!!! We signed up with ADT who sold our contract to them. I cancelled my contract back on July 21 with ADT only to still be charged. I called and got transferred to three companies- Defenders being the last of them. After being told I had to send my request in writing and give 30 days notice, I started to argue that I had already done so two months ago.... the person on the other end of the phone struggling to use proper grammar slammed the phone down on me. read more

Nearly Six months ago I called ADT to purchase a security system to replace my Brinks security system. I told the person on the phone what I was looking for and what system requirements I had. I even told them what type of door sensors I wanted. I was looking for an apples to apples price quote. After about an hour on the phone we had it all figured out and she quoted me a price. I was told that a salesperson would come to my home with all the components we talked about and they would be able to install the system that day after I signed the paperwork and gave them a check. The salesperson arrived on the scheduled day and we started talking as his tech started installing the system. Come to find out that the door sensors I had requested and was told he would have he did not have. He also did not have the garage door tilt sensors, and the thermostat. Then when he pulled out the control panel it was a push button system not the touch screen I had requested. I was told that he could return in about a week with the thermostat and door sensors. He told me that the touch screen system was not available at that time but I could upgrade it when it can out. I told him that he could just take his equipment and leave because he was not prepared and did not have the equipment I requested. He assured me that I would get the system I wanted it would just take a few extra days for the thermostat and sensors and that the touch screen would be coming very soon and I could upgrade it when it came out. He did not tell me that it would cost me more money to do so. Against my better judgement I said ok. Nearly a month later I still did not have my thermostat and door sensors. I tried calling the salesperson, but he would not return my calls. Finally, someone answered my calls and brought the thermostat and sensors. The salesperson never did call me back. The system ran ok, but still was not what I requested as far as the application and features that I had with Brinks. Just an FYI, I do not like Brinks either. Every time I called customer service, I was on the phone a minimum of 45mins on hold. That is why I left Brinks. About a month ago I needed to change the code on the front door. You can not do that though the application (something I requested with the touch panel), you can only change the code manually at the lock itself. This is not very easy and required a screwdriver to remove the cover. After trying several times to get it changed it finally changed but then I could not control it at all though the app (lock and unlock). I called for customer service to get it fixed. After explaining my issue and that I was not happy with the system the person told me that if I upgraded my system to the "Control" system I would be able to do everything I asked for from day one. I also found out that the "Control" system had been out since February. Yes, that's right, you may have figured it out, the sales person lied to me about its release date to get me to except the "Pulse" system instead. We had someone come out and fix the door lock and scheduled a call to upgrade the system from "Pulse" to "Control". Now we have the "Control" system and I can change the lock code from the app but can no longer control the thermostat or have the automations (auto alarm and disarm the system) feature. When I asked the installer about connecting my thermostat and garage doors the tech gave me a blank deer in the headlights look and said he didn't know how to do that. He also made several personal calls while he was in my home installing the equipment. He left with out even attempting to connect the thermostat or garage doors. I called customer service to see about the automations and was told the new system didn't offer them. I expressed that I wish someone had told me that before I upgraded me to a system that gave me less features. Now, I am being told that, I am stuck with a system I do not want and does not do what I was told it could and would do. When I asked about the 6 month guarantee I was told I didn't qualify for it and would have to pay an early termination fee to get out of the contract and the money I paid upfront is gone. If you decide to do business with ADT or Defenders your crazy. Do not make the same mistake I did. Buyer beware!!!!!! These people are incompetent and liars. They will keep you on the hook and drag things out until your 6 months are up and then say too bad your stuck with what you have unless you want to pay a early termination fee and lose your investment. read more

Here is an update. My attorney general inquired about the unauthorized credit check and this company had the audacity to submit a cd of a FAKE and EDITED phone conversation. They did not even use the voice of the person who was on the call, and did not even show the responses due to personal information being redacted. Which regardless, the questions they asked were not actual questions that were asked in the original phone conversation. They are scammers and FRAUDULENT and would rather fake a conversation rather than remove the credit. Even when hearing this conversation, the responses were taken from another recording. If I could provide a review without a rating that would be more appropriate. By far the rudest customer service reps. They barely understand the system and provide wrong information. It's amazing that I can get three very different wrong answers on the same question. You can tell the difference with the customer service when calling Defenders versus ADT. I understand I must deal with Defenders for six months before I can work with ADT. After dealing with an obnoxious sales rep at my home from 8am-11:30am I allowed him to proceed with the install. How was he obnoxious? Well when he proposed I buy the smoke detectors and I said I'm not interested he said so you don't think your house could ever catch on fire? I didn't think that was funny. I cancelled the service, then after speaking to a professional at ADT decided to reactivate my system. Unfortunately I had to call Defenders to do this. Defenders kept me on hold for almost two hours and then I hung up. Not sure why the rep could not figure out my account but she said I was credited for my initial payment when actually my account was debited for the monthly payment. At the one hour mark I decided to hold on to see how long it would take for someone to come back to the phone. I guess they decided to keep me on hold to see how long I would hold on. They won! Major Alert: This company is an absolute scam and I have absolutely no idea how they are still legally operating after reading so many other victims stories. We used to have ADT for over a decade. Recently we decided to switch back to them because there was a deal for 19.95 which we confirmed with two different managers at ADT before making the switch back. They came in and "switched" our old security system out. I put quotation marks because the guy who came in only switched some of our old security system. Within a couple days the security system stopped working and kept beeping every couple minutes. We called them to fix it. Apparently the guy who installed our system quit without notice the same day he installed our "ADT security system". Another guy comes in and tells us that the first guy didn't even switch all our old equipment out and that he's never seen such terrible work. He took pictures and left. Long story short, we've had to call ADT so many times with terrible customer service, one lady even hung up on us on the phone, and to add to all this, they didn't honor the deal that they originally told us about for 19.95 a month, they send us the first bill (all the while we haven't even had a working security system) and they're trying to charge us $48 a month. No one has ever come to fix the security system so now we're stuck with a non working security system. They've been harassing us to pay a $2000 bill for the broken security equipment they failed to even install correctly. And are now threatening to take us to collection agency. There's much more details I can add to this story but for the sake of keeping this short, all I can say is DO NOT FALL FOR THE ADT/DEFENDERS SCAM. Buyer BEWARE!!! The cameras do NOT work. I called the company within the 3 day grace period to cancel. (the cameras never worked during this time). They Scammed me and two techs and handfuls of customer service reps straight up lied to my face. To make a very long story short, the tech told me I had 90 days to downgrade to the $27 monitoring rate, so I signed the contract because he said If they had to send another tech back out, they wouldn't do it free of charge. Turns out it's not 90 days it's 30 days (so they say). They refuse to authorize the downgrade the tech promised, and apologize that he told me the wrong information. I ask to speak to a manager to authorize a downgrade, and get through to a woman (Jolisa) who authorizes the downgrade and schedules an appointment for a tech to come out for the downgrade and an additional CO2 unit. When the tech gets to my house he installs the CO2 unit, and says he can't do the downgrade because he didn't have one of the parts he needed (they always know why they are sent to a house and always know which parts they need). He says that Defender will reach out and send back another tech with the right part and they will call to reschedule. I wait a week and nobody reaches out, and customer service reps keep me on hold for 20 minutes at a time, answer for a few minutes, then put me back on hold for 20 minutes. They claim to be speaking to managers; when I ask to speak with a manager they put me on hold for 20 minutes and then say they're in a meeting and someone will call us back. No call back 25h later. I call back the next day and it's the exact same thing, on hold for 20 minutes at a time, and that the managers did not approve our downgrade since it was over 30 days in. I remind them I only signed because the tech told me I had 90 days and pointed to the 90 day limited warranty, and they apologize that he gave me the wrong information and there's nothing they can do. This repeats, and repeats! Later I was told that I did not in fact ever speak to a manager and that the downgrade was never approved (despite the fact the tech was in my house and lied about not having the right part) and that there was nothing they could do. Now I have to withhold payment and go to arbitration. NEVER AGAIN read more

Don't mistake this with ADT, this is a THIRD PARTY DEALER. They are nothing but scammer! I am not recommending anyone dealing with this company. Their sales people are dishonest and lied always, their customer service is totally useless. They are running this business for making huge profits in short term and not caring about how customers feel AT ALL. Their price for equipment will be at least 5 times more than the market price (e.g. a wireless DSC motion sensor will be around $30 on ebay/amazon but they will sell you at $240). This is crazy profit if they successfully lure you to buy the devices considering they will also get commission ($1k) from selling your contract to ADT after. The sales person will come to your house, drill holes on your wall without ask. If he is lucky (without being driven out) he will check every corner of your house to give you a "security plan", that is a very "nice" plan which will cost you at least 4 to 5k (but the market value is actually below 1k if you do your own research). They will try to lure you to buy useless devices just because they can make huge profit out of you, and frighten you that this is for your own safey (lol, it is obviously for their commission ONLY). The above scenario almost happens to everyone here (excluding fake reviews written by professional paid reviewers). Also, as all people here ever experienced, the $100 gift card they promised to you NEVER arrived. I called their customer service for several times, also just as all the people here encountered, the agents are all "trained to be nice", they will pretend to process your request and make you hold, and lie to you that the gift card is going to be mailed out. This is so ridiculous! I can't understand a company would train their cs people to lie just for short term profits and disregard the damage being caused to their reputation! Well, maybe you are already infamous, how worse it can be? Fortunately, due to the concern over their constant lies to me, I never signed the notice of cancellation in order to reserve my legal rights to cancel. And after several months I decided to cancel the transaction anyway to "reward" their dishonest behaviors against me. Expectedly, they made another lie that the refund will be made to me within 24 hours after returning the goods. Certainly I know this would become a fake promise because, well, how many times I have communicated with these liars? But again, I have my weapon too, one is the law, the other one is the buyer's partner - your card issuer. I called my bank to do a chargeback against them and this is WHAT THEY DESERVE. For current victims, at least you have two weapons to defend yourself when encoutering such immoral, despicable merchant, one is your local laws that they have to follow, the other one is your card issuer! Last words to this pathetic company and pathetic people working for it to make money from lying, if you leanrned something from my review, go fix it! This company has appeared on my credit report as a check for ADT Security. I did not authorize this check, but was asked a couple of pieces of personal information and the check was run automatically. I will not do business with a company that performs such deceitful practices! read more

This company is a scam that will fail to protect your home and then make excuses as to why their faulty equipment didn't work they will keep you stuck in their contract and provide you with fly by night service. Defender and ADT are complete scams. read more
