I had never been here before in in spite of frequenting the Chautauqua area, my whole life. But, I finally had an occasion because my tiny niece was the perfect age for this place. There were a ton of rides that were perfect for her as a three year-old. Also, they had rides that were good for ages 4 to 6 as well. She really enjoyed the little roller coaster. Watch out that it is actually a little rough for the adults to ride on because it does jerk a little. Also, there were some really cute little boat rides, including one that took took the children around in a circle. There was very little that she was too small to ride on, so it was completely fantastic. Also, we were able to get her a wristband that gave her all inclusive access to rides. For a few rides that do require adult accompaniment for littles, the adult gets to ride free. There's a food spot towards the bottom of the hill and I highly recommend it. I was able to get platters of fries and corn, dogs and pizza, for not too much money. This is a clutch when it came to reducing the chance of overstimulated little kid meltdowns. Also, it was very sunny, and there was very little shade, so bring the sunscreen. Also, they have free boat parking. So, boating over and walking in is a great option if you happen to have or be renting a boat.

The trails were clean and maintained but the structures were dated and showing age. It feels like this park represents the area in the sense that it's saying "look at how we were when" instead of embracing the awesome it can be today. I'd love to see this park and area be vibrant, be about the now and the beauty that exist here.

This year I was here for part of the Outside chronicles, hiking challenge, as were other people I saw here.I hope it continues to thrive as a place for locals to be able to come and do an interesting hike with their families. It has a gorgeous setting right on the Clarion River surrounded by trees and hills. There are several overlooks along the river, and you can walk right alongside in several sections, as well as do some fishing. There are a number of picnic areas to enjoy, plus sports fields and courts. There is a very nice playground near a staffed swimming pool that offers free entry. The bathhouse is open air and pretty basic, but the pool is in good condition with chairs and umbrella tables around deck. There is a nice large parking lot available.

The park was very calm and peaceful, with only a few other visitors when we stopped by. The lake and its small dam were beautiful to look at. The lake offers an accessible dock for fishing too. There are a number of picnic tables and shelterhouses throughout the park, plus some nice modern restrooms in good condition available. There is great beach area with a nearby playground, plus a campground with yurts and trails. It was a beautiful and relaxing visit to a very nice state park!

Chapman State Park is a pretty Pennsylvania State Park within the Boundaries of the Allegheny…read moreNational Forest. Its a unique State Park that shares it boundaries with National Forest Land making it really feel as if your in the middle of nowhere. Chapman State Park offers a beautiful campground with great amenities for families. As well as Cabin and Yurt rentals. Chapman also offers a Beach for swimming as well as a few Playgrounds for kids. Chapman has a pretty decent trail system for Hiking as well as Bike Riding. The large draw to the park is the Large lake that acts as the center piece for the Park. At one end of the Park is a beautiful spillway at the edge of the lake. Overall if your looking for a Pennsylvania State Park away from it all, but great for families Chapman is a great choice. There is even internet access. There's something for everyone here.
