My favorite spot for classic-on-modern northeastern brazilian food! Thjs place was simply a gem and I did not expect to find such experimental food that simply works. What a treat! Service is fast and food is perfect. read more

It is located in the Joan D'Arc gallery and its neighbors are interesting shops and a craft beer store. The restaurant itself has a great, intimate atmosphere, especially good for date night or even a group dinner. I had the Made in China crepe (delicious!) and we shared the Jubu (or something close) crepe for dessert - chocolate and strawberries with ice cream - also delicious. The owner was there as well, and personally checked on us to ask how our dinner was, and thanked us for coming. I highly recommend this spot for dinner in Recife! Check out some of the shops while you're there as well.

The front is covered with various types of palm trees and tropical plants that make you feel like you are entering into a secret grove in the jungle. There are charming and quirky handmade decorations all over and all the tables are covered with tablecloths with a beach theme, further contributing to the relaxed yet classy feeling. The waiters are very friendly without being too familiar. The menu can be described as Brazilian fusion cuisine, with French and African influences. "Beijupirá" is a type of fish--in English, it is known as a cobia or black bonito. Not surprisingly, the restaurant does a lot of seafood, and does it well (you can get other things too if you're not into seafood). I've wanted to eat here for some time. They have a special plate that changes every year. This year, their special was called "BeijuHibisco", which was shrimp in a hibiscus sauce served with pineapple rice. The shrimp were cooked to perfection and I've never had a sauce quite like this one--it was very delicious. The rice was also cooked perfectly. We washed it down with a few beers and the check (with the tip) came to about $65! Our waiter explained everything about the dish and we didn't have to wait long either. I will definitely be coming back here again and I highly recommend that if you're anywhere near here that you should eat here. You will not be disappointed.

They have a second floor that offers a beautiful view of the beach and the boats ("jangadas") moored in front of the restaurant. I really wanted to have some oysters and they got 'em! They have oysters and clams in a saltwater tank. After ordering them, the shucker came and sat at our table and opened some very large local oysters for us. They were fresh and delicious and cost less than $2 each!!! Then we ordered some clams cooked in broth (24 clams cooked simply, with onions and peppers) They only cost $13 and were also delicious. The style of cooking is the way they prepare them in Bahia. The flavor of the clams really comes through. The broth was also wonderful. All of the waiters were very friendly and we were not rushed at all. We washed it down with a few Heinekens and our bill, with the tip was a mere $45. I can't stress how much I enjoyed this place and I'd definitely recommend it. I also can't wait to come back!

The restaurant is separated into 3 separate seating areas around an open-air courtyard, so you have your choice of different ambiences. The menu seems to have an Italian flair, but seafood is the main attraction. I was really expecting more from both the flavor and the plating, which was rather pedestrian. We started with a seafood gratin, which was pretty good. The main courses were less good...I had fish Fiorentina, which was an overcooked, underseasoned piece of fish covewith mashed potatoes and spinach (neither of which were seasoned at all). The fact that the fish was tiny didn't bother me because it was so tough, but they covered it with so much puree that I was expecting something larger. I'm usually a fan of puree, but not this one. It was still better than the fish. My wife had the Fish & Shrimp à moda do Farol. The shrimp were nicely done, but the fish was a salty as could be and was over-cooked as well. Both main dishes were a disappointment. The check only came to US$56 with the tip, but for Brazil, for the quality of this meal, this was expensive.
