I wanted to get a tattoo to commemorate the one year anniversary of my stage 3b rectal cancer diagnosis. I emailed this studio via their website, and explained my vision for what I wanted with my tattoo. I wanted a blue ribbon, with the words "Rectal Cancer Survivor" around it. I said I was willing to have the artist come up with a rendition of what I was describing. They told me they had booked me an appointment for the day I specified, with a certain artist. The day of the appointment came, and I headed in. When I got there and told them I had an appointment with that artist, they told me he wasn't in that day. They said they had another artist available, so I agreed to see him. Of course, he had no clue what design I had talked about in my previous email conversations. I described it to him, and he went off to create a design. After a little tweaking, I agreed to the design he had come up with. As he was about to put the stencil on my arm, he asked me if I was sure I wanted "that word" tattooed on me. I said yes. He put the stencil on, then asked me again. I again, said yes. He asked me a third time right as he had the tattoo machine poised over my skin. For a third time, I said yes. I don't think he would have asked me that question so many times if I had been a breast cancer survivor. My cancer happened to grow in my rectum, I can't help that, I didn't choose it. It is a body part, like any other. One of the reasons I wanted the tattoo was to help normalize the word rectum, and start conversations about colorectal cancer. It was like he was trying to make me feel dirty for having "that word" tattooed on my body where people could see it. For what it is worth, I like my tattoo. And it really has started conversations about colorectal cancer. read more

Not the greatest experience, very limited staff was available. Just wanted a small matching couple tattoo. Artist said it was too risky to do. Which I said I i understand but just wanted something quick and easy and it was a very easy design. It was more of a symbolic gesture than a work of art for me. After having my ears pierced here, it lead to...throbbing, infected, swollen ears, having my earrings changed 2 times within a couple days to metals I can wear, an ER visit, an Urgent care visit, a steroid injection, and being prescribed a 10 day course of 2 oral antibiotics, 1 topical antibiotic, and ear drops... Do your own research on places and piercers and metals. Not all titanium or stainless steel are created equal and if you have an issue with nickel and your body rejecting random things (like myself), check out what they are putting in your ears before hand. Apparently you can't just listen to them and believe what they are telling you (like I did when I was told these piercings we are using in your ears contain NO NICKEL)...just take my swollen infected ears for example... do your research!! Or bring in your own jewelry!! The doctors said this was caused from a nickel allergy and they were now infected because I had to have them changed so quickly. One ear was swollen almost closed, but luckily my ear drum hadn't ruptured yet (hence the steroid injection). I would have taken them out and said FORGET it had I not read everywhere that you are not suppose to take an infected piercing out because it traps the infection. You are to treat it with the piercing in. Deja Vu in Winston Salem...pierced my ears and LIED about what they were putting in my ears. I had two daiths done and my tragus done by Adrian. Super cool dude. Really nice. However, nice didn't save my ears or the side of my face, jaw, throat, mouth, and head from this. I specifically told him I was allergic to nickel. He said we don't use nickel and proceeded. This is where I should have done my research before hand. Stainless steel does in fact have nickel in it, especially depending on what grade they use. He should have suggested titanium (NOT titanium platede, which most places do not carry solid titanium because it is expensive). So at this point he should have said these surgical steel earrings do contain some nickel. Then it would have been on me if I took the chance and went through with it (which I would not have!) I know I can't wear nickel and definitely not in three brand new piercings. I went back the next day and told them my ear is swollen and throbbing what could be causing this? Is it too tight? Am I allergic? Is my ear rejecting it? Adrian wasn't there, but Joe was. He said "What do you want me to do about it, put some ice on it and take Advil"-$140. I can't use the earrings. I had to go somewhere else and have them exchanged for titanium and pay them. And YES, I ordered jewelry MYSELF. Implant grade, solid, Titanium. What should have been used originally to avoid this entire situation, which going to a reputable piercing establishment, you would expect them to be honest with something as serious as an allergy. Just in jewelry and piercing places alone, these 3 piercing have cost me right at $300. That is insane since it all could have been avoided had I not just BEEN LIED TO. I don't usually rant about people or businesses but my ears freaking HURT (I couldn't even hear out of one of them until this morning after the steroid injection had time to work), I could have ended up with ruptured ear drums for f*#%'s sake! And y'all have a right to know so it doesn't happen to you too. And yes...I have pictures, doctor's paperwork, bills... this is a true story, unfortunately. I got my nose pierced this past Sunday and as of today the jewelry is not visible. I got an opinion from a local piercer in Greensboro. She stated that the bar was too short and that the jewel was not big enough. I called the shop and explained to them the issue I was having and they told me to come in and get a longer bar. I explained to them that I didn't have confidence in them. I asked for my money back and the said "you paid to have piercing done and now you want your money back"? I said that now that I am gonna have to have someone fix it yes. But then he appeared to be confused lol. However, the back and forth shouldn't have been. So I told him keep the money and I will just post about it. One would think of some people tend to swell or bleed more than others they would choose a bar that would allow for the potential swelling. Oh nay nay! In all honesty...my experience was less than and for the 50 buck plus the ten dollar tip....y'all really need to reevaluate how you handle people. read more

Beware!!! A new experience, but one I hope is never repeated for anyone. Wanting to get a tattoo, we had the unlucky chance of consulting with Roe, his mom or wife sits as the receptionist. He claimed to be an internationally known artist. Yet, someone of such caliber with those credentials wouldn't have copied a stencil directly from an online kids coloring site, supercoloring.com. I happened to come across it the Sunday after, shocked and disgusted doesn't begin to tell you how I felt. I suffered from 2nd hand embarrassment. I played my thoughts and feelings low-key since it was actually my BF who was marked for life in my honor. After the consult, BF forwarded the pics of the tat to Roe. However, at the appointment, Roe comes with a different rendition. We thought it was a sample of his artistry so we accepted it NOT knowing he had lifted the exact color sheet from a kids site and created a stencil. As I brought it to his attention, he had choice words, said he couldn't remember where he found it, but it was his inspiration - yada, yada, yada... he then HUNG UP the phone. To my dismay, I called back and unknowingly spoke to his mom, who pacified me. Tuesday, I reached out to the owner, made him aware of the entire experience and Roe's non-professionalism. By then, those two had their unlikely story together. The owner accepted the shop's explanation in the end, whatever that was. The owner discussed how tight he runs a shop and that it wouldn't be in the mall otherwise (well there's proof that contradicts that). What adult male wants to walk around with a tat he thoughtfully selected for its power and intricacy, but ends up resembling BAD apprentice work. It's clearly apparent Egyptian art, intricate art; faces aren't Roe's expertise by a long shot and the mediocre, childish result is a testament to that (before and after pics provided). Just being forthcoming and passing on the work would have kept Roe's reputation from being tarnished. Respect your craft is paramount. Heck, you don't have to be an expert in the field to recognize a sound work. With everything that transpired, my BF didn't want to acknowledge or call attention to the piece, too much negativity surrounded it. Short of having it removed, he spent the coming weeks fading it. The tat happened on a Thurs. and 2-days later we had secured an artist to fix it. His passion, workmanship and level of detail shows it. Apparently, Roe's rep precedes him and not in a good way. He had such a keen eye that when he saw the original tat, he knew Roe did it w/o us saying his name. Now the lines are tight and don't skip as before, there are no smears of ink as before, the serpent and crow at the top of the mask actually resemble the animals themselves not some distorted fecal matter as before. There is dimension and depth now. The shadowing and highlight now accentuate the piece. This artist didn't require a stencil. He studied a rendition and then freehanded over the prior work. The tat is now a mature statement piece and has received numerous compliments. We were able to turn trash to treasure. And, he and I are both glad about it. No one, and I mean no one, wanted to look at something with such low quality. And the fact it came from a kid's website was insult to injury. 3 hrs of pain for nada. How could that have ever met anyone's standards. Lesson learned! read more

We went to get two tattoos at around 2:30 today. They said they could do both of us at 4:00. We went back at 3:50 and were told it would take another hour! Definitely don't have enough tattoo artists....or they need help with time management/scheduling. Frustrating since we wanted to get tattooed for My daughters 22nd bday and met in the middle at Winston-Salem to do so. I went to get my nose pierced on a whim on New Year's Day. I didn't really know what to expect and there wasn't information offered. I was surprised when the piercing caused my nose to begin bleeding on the inside and the outside (my only experience with piercings have been my ears and my tongue, neither of which bled). When I mentioned how unexpected the bleeding was to my piercer, Joe, he told me that some people bleed and some don't. He cleans up my face from the blood that dripped down, handed me a piece of paper for piercing care, which didn't nose piercings specifically, and sent me on my way. I to the next shop over and my nose is full on bleeding again so I go to the restroom to get some tissue and see if I can get the bleeding to stop. It wouldn't stop after 15 minutes so my friend suggested we go back to Deja Vu to see if they might be able to help me to get it to stop bleeding again. When I showed back up, the woman at the counter told me that my nose isn't really bleeding that badly and I should just not touch it. My piercer came from around the corner and when I asked if there was something I could do to get it to stop bleeding, he said, "Well, it wasn't bleeding when you left!" He was kind enough to give me a handful of Q-Tips before ushering me out the door. My nose bled for 5 hours. It's definitely not their fault that I'm a bleeder, but they were not even slightly interested in being helpful about my bleeding. read more

Went to get an industrial piercing in my left ear. The process was quick and easy for a walk-in, but that's about it. The piercer (Josh) was a little patronizing, but that's the least of my concerns. Both my partner and I can attest to not seeing him wash his hands before the piercing. The placement of the hole closest to my face is at an angle that forced the bar upwards to level out, causing irritation. He then told me to wash it with antibacterial soap twice a day. Stupidly enough, I took that at face value and did so with no prior research. That is my bad, but I do want to stress that this "professional" piercer misinformed me on aftercare. I will not be contacting the owner of the shop simply because I have seen many other reviews of the owner taking the shops side rather than the customers. Just make sure to do your research before considering this shop or this piercer. Don't be stupid like me read more

I was looking through Deja Vu's reviews and noticed that the they were a lot lower than I believe they should be. I went to Deja Vu about 9 months ago to get my first three cartilage piercings. I was very nervous because I have an extremely LOW pain tolerance. When I walked in I told Adrian what I wanted but that I didn't know if I was going to be able to handle getting them all done at once. He was very kind and understanding and told me that we could do one and if I felt like I could handle getting the rest we could continue. He really eased my anxiety about the whole situation and did an AMAZING job!! They barely even hurt (and this is coming from someone who cries when she has to get a flu shot). I had a great experience and will be coming back for the rest of the piercings I want. I have also had to get my earrings switched multiple l times (for plays and sports) and joe switched them the more recently. My ears had just gotten infected because of the type of earrings I had them put in the last time (I got them from amazon not Deja Vu). Joe saw this and was very careful to make sure they would not hurt more. He also gave me recommendations for places I could get the clear earrings I needed at a MUCH better quality. At the recommendation of close friends, I took my daughter to Deja Vu to see Tony for her first tattoo when she was 18. She picked a small, simple tattoo in honor of her deceased grandfather. We were more then impressed with how it turned out. She has been back multiple times and Tony has continued to exceed all expectations. First of all, deja vu has had extremely unfriendly counter girls for as long as I can remember. I've gotten a couple decent tats from here because I was close to one of the artists. But all of my friends who went to him came out with horrible, spotty tattoos with shaky lines. A couple of mine are poorly done as well. It's like he only tries on tattoos he's excited to do. I was pierced by Adrian, he gave me no information on how to care for it. It's very crooked & never healed correctly. I, personally know countless people who were also pierced by him and left with the wrong sized jewelry and even jewelry meant for a totally different piercing. One artist, William Wood, is extremely unprofessional and inappropriate with most of his clients, me included. Would not recommend this shop to ANYONE. Keep your distance! read more

Awful customer service. My cousin and I tried to get a tattoo 2 days in a row and was told many different manners in which to schedule an appointment or not to schedule an appointment. Either way, I'm still confused. It seems as though they are picking and choosing who they want to work with? And the "owner" appeared to be under the influence of something when talking to us. The receptionist was extremely rude and impersonal and seemed as though she didn't want to deal with us either day. I've seen great work from this place, however, with such terrible customer service, they will never receive my business! Thumbs down!!! It was a horrible experience, I got my belly pierced here. then I started to get an infection I was cleaning it right though and then I seen the metal on the jewelry starting to rust after three weeks of it being done. I went back to déjà vu... The guy that pierced it put a showcase jewelry in me. Which wasn't metal it was fake it turned. They had to take out the piercing. Told me to come back in three months to get it redone. But they will do it for free. I have to go through this all again in a few months. Because the guy that did it. This place came highly recommended to me by a close friend. They had gotten a tattoo from them before and he was impressed by their work, prices, and professionalism, so I went to Deja Vu to get a tattoo. I was told to wait for the artist so I could explain to him what I wanted. When he got to me and showed him what I wanted, the guy immediately started complaining about it, but he said he'll do a sketch to see how it could come out. The friend who recommended this place came with me to get some work done. He spoke to the same artist and showed him what he wanted and where. The artist laughed and said it would look stupid there, but he could do the piece in another place for a ridiculous price. The piece was about 3 inches tall and it would cost him about $350. My friend was shocked at his reaction and price, so he declined the offer. 20 minutes later, he came out with a sketch too big for me and told me he wouldn't do it in the place I wanted. He didn't want to resize it and told me to think of another place, so I started picturing it in a different place. He was aggravated and impatient and started waving his hand in my face to make a decision quicker. I told him a second spot I would've liked it to be, and again, he said no and looked at me like I was stupid for even suggesting that. Again, he wouldn't resize it, or accommodate in any way what I wanted. I left that place and made a decision not to go back. I was excited to get something done and had been planning this for weeks only to be shut down so quickly. I would've understood if he had a long day or was somewhat tired, but the place had just opened; he was the guy who opened the gate! Even so, he lacked professionalism. I was so disappointed in the service. Instead we went to Tattoo Therapy, and you could tell the difference in the service! They didn't have appointments or slots for that day, but we instantly felt welcomed. We couldn't go inside, but they came outside and took the time to listen to what we wanted. We got our scheduled appointments and left feeling heard. They charged us half the price that guy would've charged! I never write reviews, but I wanted people to know what experience they may have if they go to Deja Vu. They got one star from me because it's the lowest i'm allowed to put. Having called ahead before making the long drive in mall traffic to ensure someone would be there to talk to us about a custom tattoo, we were assured some one would be there. I called twice once that morning and another before I left. I thought I had a scheduled appointment. Obviously not. Well of course the 3 or 4 tattoo artist laying on the couch were much to busy keeping the seat cushion from falling off the couch to even talk to us. Not one customer was sitting in a chair, everyone sitting around worked there. LAZY, egotistical and down right snobby. I guess they think they are on a reality show with their condescending attitudes. Not getting my money. Nor will I recommend them to anyone. BUYER BEWARE!!! My daughter paid for a design that wasn't ready on the date scheduled for ink. She was required to prepay $65 for the design and a total of $350 in CASH before the template was placed on her back. The computer design didn't have any color and wasn't close to what was asked for during the initial consults. When the template was placed on her skin, it was obvious that the entire artwork needed to be resized, rescaled, design enhanced and modified to look like something similar to what she gave during the consult process. She was told that it would be corrected and to return in a few days to see the changes. When she returned to the shop two days later, she was informed that nothing had been done to the design. She was quite upset and asked for a refund because nothing had been done. They told her the money was deposited, refused a refund, and told her that she could get the tattoo, take a credit or let someone else use the money to get a tattoo. The girl at the desk did point to a sign after the second visit that says they won't issue refunds. The legal consent form doesn't state anywhere that there are no refunds. It would be different to not issue a refund if work had been completed, but the guy didn't even give her a completed and approved drawing. She was told to leave when she demanded to speak to a manager or the owner. I'm not sure why they think she would even want to deal with them again to "fix" this design or trust them to put something permanent on her skin due to their lack of follow-through with this entire transaction. We are now consulting the legal route and will be contacting the BBB to report this company. Now she's out her hard-earned money with nothing to show for it and they are enjoying the free cash. read more
