My Dad lived at DGS for not quite three years. Our experience has been a good one. We like how clean and well maintained the building is. Not smelly. The aids and nursing staff were usually very upbeat and pleasant. Everyone can have a bad day now and then and no place is perfect, but by and far everyone did their job and I never had to go far to find someone if I had a question or if Dad needed something. He liked the food and the activities they offer are awesome. Dad enjoyed the music events they have twice a week. Pathways hospice is superb! Dad was on hospice two different times before he passed and they all went the extra mile for him. They kept me informed at all times. My mom lives next door at Garden Villas and I have nothing but positive things to say about the staff and facilities there, as well. I am glad our elder care attorney recommended Delmar Gardens. read more

I Drove 3 Hours to The Facility and arrived early To Help Out . The Aides Were Amazing. During My Shift The Night Supervisor Came to be Demanding me to Give A resident a pill now because she had family calling her . Instead of responding to her aggressiveness and rudeness, w/ rudeness in return Instantly stopped what I was doing and did what she asked.(The aide then came to me and said that the resident had told her that she had been asking for a pain pill since 9pm) my shift didn't start officially until 10:30 pm and nobody notified or reported it to me until the aide did . 7 minutes before the supervisor came to me with demands.) A hour 30 minutes passed and this supervisor came back stating that she was sending me home and she talked to administration already. I asked to speak with the Adon, Don & Administration. She told me no and that she wouldnt be calling anyone. I told her I had every right and she couldn't deny me going through the chain of command when I did nothing wrong. I said I Would like to talk to the DOn and finally she said okay we can. We were suppose to count and she stepped away to have a private conversation with the DON to get her to back her up. I was looking for her and listened to their conversation when I Realized what she was doing, she then came and told me after I Sat down that the DON stated she wasn't talking To Me , there was nothing to talk about and she was backing up her supervisor. I asked to talk to the administrator, she told me no again and I explained to her that I drove 3 hours to come help to get treated like dog crap for doing nothing. I found the administrators number . She was rude. She Let me start to explain and then mid sentence stopped me and stated it was 2 so in the morning why was I calling her basically and that's how i felt being 3 hours from home being picked on and no where to go . I explained everything and she literally gave no care in the world. Was only worried about her sleep when i would have to sleep in my car. I Asked her did it not matter that staff was there and witnessed it. She said if the supervisor unassigned me then she would just leave for now because she's not there. She then immediately called to discuss how I called her at 2 in the morning. The supervisor stated again she told me that I couldn't talk to her until the morning and that she told me to call tomorrow but she guess i still decided to call after she had it handled already. DOING A URGENT MATTER THOUGH. She told me she was sending me home because I ignored her. Her exact words. Even though I immediately followed the order given. Her Pride allowed her to be a bully. During A URGENT MATTER. I did count and during so, The supervisor susan then implied that i stole a whole card even though stating the count was correct. All because their in house staff failed their duty to archive the card once it zeroed out and left the count, which could have easily been done because it automatically populates. She called her friend the DON and tried to tell her she didn't want to subtract the card because even though the count was correct, she didnt have the empty card. Thankfully the DON instructed her to subtract it due to the count being correct. I will be calling corporate and filing a complaint on Jeanna , Susan and Becky. Agency shouldn't be treated like garbage just because we're not on their payroll. You couldn't depend on your staff and i left the comfort of my home 3 hours away to assist. I have never been treated so poorly. They are unprofessional, inconsiderate, Rude & Selfish. All about themselves . NO COMPASSION. You have To Lead by example and they don't demonstrate characteristics of a leader. Every building I go to calls me when needed because I'm Dependable, compassionate and a hard worker. I don't Appreciate how I was treated. They also didn't cancel my shift. They're trying to avoid paying me my 4 hours for canceling my shift. I recorded a video of them making me leave after 0300 AM so they couldnt say I left prior. We had to do count she made calls during so. Which would still put me at 7. I'm about to start recording all conversations. read more

This has to be one of the best nursing homes you could find. It's always clean the nursing staff are always friendly and helpful. The office staff are always willing to pitch in and help. It's clear how much they care about the residents. They truly treat them as if they are family. Even with the struggles of covid they have went above and beyond to try to ensure families can talk to loved ones and be able to ensure the residents are taken care of to the best of their ability. My mother has been a resident at Delmar Gardens South for the last 3-4 years. I could not be happier and more content knowing my mother is in a place where she is well cared for and respected as a senior adult. Dealing with the virus has been hard on so many seniors and care facilities this past year but Delmar Gardens South continued to operate in a professional caring manner with limited Covid cases. They did an outstanding job. The facility always kept me updated about my mom and found unique ways for me to interact with her when no one could enter the building. They have always gone above and beyond. The best thing I really love about Delmar Gardens South is that my mother is very happy and content. Knowing my mother is happy and content says it all. I can't say enough about this place. My grandpa has been in two other nursing home they fell very short of our expectations for his care and wellbeing. Delmar Gardens puts my heart at ease. They care, show empathy, it's clean and the food looks yummy. My grandpa seems happy. The staff is very friendly and pay attention to his needs. Covid is taken very seriously. He's safe and happy what more can I family ask for?!! read more

Placing a loved one in a nursing home is never an easy decision. But when they can no longer live independently and care for themselves, Delmar Gardens South (DGS) and its staff can be trusted to give them the care and compassion that they need. My sister moved to DGS last year, a month before the pandemic struck. She is well cared for physically and mentally. The facility is bright and clean; the residents are always dressed, appear happy and I understand that the food is very good, especially the desserts and the goodies on the "treat trolley". Activities are available if the residents wish to participate and include exercise, crafts, bingo, musical entertainment, to name a few. The DGS administration reacted immediately to the pandemic, abiding by all rules and regulations. Many families were not happy about the "lockdown," but DGS did what was necessary to keep their residents safe and the virus contained. Residents and staff were regularly tested for the virus and family members were informed by e-mail and/or phone of the virus status in the home. DGS did an excellent job during this difficult period. While I wish my sister could have remained independent and her in her own home, I sleep well at night knowing that she is safe and well cared for as a resident of DGS. read more

My dad was put into a room with a well known angry, violent resident. The nurses knew it and the fellow residents at dinner all knew he was. The nurses told us to address his tv volume of over 40 each day, every day because they know what he was like - we unfortunately did not. This gentleman became irate and began slamming things in the room only after my dad was there 5 days and for his safety, they moved my dad - not the violent man - from the room and put him into basement which smelled of smoke and urine. For 5 additional days, they "could not reach the violent man's guardian" so my dad had to stay in that horrible much smaller stinking room for 5 days. My dad can not move on his own, nor does he communicate well due to dementia. Thankfully we found another place that is hands down better in every way and my dad is safe and in a better environment. read more

Not impressed. My dad was there for physical therapy. The therapist showed up only once or twice a week at various times unannounced. Spent some time with him then left. No real interest in actually helping my dad. Just trying to check boxes on her list so she could say he reached certain goals, which he truly did not. Staff there was not helpful, not allowing him to get up and exercise unless someone was present, but they were always too busy for him, so no one was ever present. He pressed the Nurse button once to get some help, only to wait 15-20 minutes and the nurse just came in pressed the button to show she was there then immediately left, not saying a word to him. This review is for both the Garden Villas South and the Delmar Gardens South Nursing & Rehab facilities. The Garden Villas South Assistant Living facility was Mom's home for 2 years before her health declined and she needed nursing care. The month after mom moved to the Delmar Gardens South Nursing & Rehab facility, Covid 19 restrictions were placed on the normal everyday activities in an effort to protect the residents and staff. The restrictions on outside visitation and entertainment put a stress on the residents but the Activities personnel went the extra mile to keep the residents active & stimulated. Now that the CDC has lifted its restrictions the facility has regained its liveliness and outside entertainment can once again be provided. I would love to mention specific names in this review, but I mostly want the public to know that the hiring practices of the Delmar Gardens Family and administration will continue to hire people who love what they do and truly care about the welfare of others. Here are my observations: Both Gardens Villas and Delmar Gardens South are Clean, Secure and Caring Family Environments. From the greeting at the front reception desk, to the bright and cheery dining facilities, I get an immediate upbeat feeling to the approach taken by both the Garden Villas and Delmar Gardens South to promote a healing/stimulating environment. The social workers are attentive and caring, and are willing to help in any way possible. The highly skilled nursing staff (RNs, CNAs, Med techs etc.) at Delmar Gardens South are attentive and care for the patients as if they were family. They kept Mom on a regular schedule: up and dressed each day, dispensed her medications, met her toileting needs and all the while treated her with dignity and human kindness. The activities staff made sure to invite and escort Mom to any and all activities. The efficient and friendly laundry & housekeeping staff keep the facility sparkling clean and odorless. The food service staff are efficient and they offer a wide range of menu choices. They are also willing to fill special requests within reason. The maintenance staff keeps the facility in excellent working order and the grounds crew makes sure the landscaping is beautifully planted to celebrate each current season. What makes both Gardens Villas and Delmar Gardens South so special are the people who work there. Many of the staff have worked there for 20 years or more. Throughout the time that my mother has been with Delmar Gardens I have observed that they promote from within, and that gives me an assurance that Garden Villas and Delmar Gardens South will continue to be a caring vital place in the community My mother needed hospice care during the last 9 months of her residency at Delmar Gardens South. The Pathways Hospice service that is a part of Delmar Gardens South provided EXCEPTIONAL care of mother's needs. They kept her comfortable and provided additional services in addition to what the DGS nursing staff provided. I am glad I did not hesitate to place Mom into hospice, because Pathways Hospice provided an abundance of love and attention to her needs until her passing. read more

A lady from my church was recently admitted to this facility and I have been there as a visitor over several weeks. No one wants to be in a nursing home; I take a lot of complaints with a grain of salt because elder care in general has a lot of issues in America and singling out one home is hardly fair (staffing shortages, et cet) Having said that, Delmar South has many problems germane to its own building and practices that require me to rate it so low. "M" is in a shared room with an incontinent woman; during the night, aides come in and check her 4 times, either changing her bed or taking her to the commode as needed. That means, 4 times a night, 2 loud, boisterous people come into the room, flip on the main light, bang open drawers, open the bathroom and turn on the light. How is any one expected to sleep? It is nice when the aides are laughing and happy; I think seeing that is good for the residents. There is a time and a place, though. Cutting up, telling dirty jokes, carrying on should not be going on in resident's rooms or standing around in the hallways while call lights are going off. The nurses suffer just the opposite. Polite is the best you will get from them, as most times, you're dealing with outright hostility. Understandably, this is a stressful job--short staffed, no one gets better, dealing with very sick people. We get that. But there is no earthly reason to speak to families and aides so aggressively. The absolute rudeness I have witnessed a ward nurse behave towards an aide was inexcusable and then to turn around and snarl at a family. Find another line of work! Care is somewhat lacking. For instance, M can get herself up and dressed and hair combed. Her roommate does not fare so well. She will be dressed and put her chair; sometimes hair will be combed and face washed, usually not. Ears are filthy with wax balls visible, nails aren't tended, things like that. Now, I don't expect a daily beauty parlor, no one is asking for that but I would posit the aides look at each patient before taking them out of the room and asking 'would I like to be seen like that?' Those who are dependent on help for feeding face a similar problem, struggle for time and attention for assistance. Delmar could be a good facility but it needs to stop extolling the virtues of the decor and turn more focus onto care. read more

My mom was at Delmar Gardens South for 7 months. The nurses and aides were angels to her. She could not have gotten better care anywhere else. We looked at a few homes before putting mom there. It's a pretty facility, light and bright and clean. There's even an ice cream parlor! Mom got excellent care while there. Everyone was gentle with her. My sister and I were always sure she was being well cared for and kept her dignity as a patient. Even with the problems of the pandemic, she got excellent care all the time. I was updated on everything going on with her care and all aspects of the effects of the pandemic at the home. She was well protected there. The office staff, maintenance, the receptionists, the nursing staff and the aides - all excellent at their jobs. I would not hesitate to say if you needed to put a loved one in a home, this would be the absolute best place to take them. read more
