08' ALUM, first to review, woot-woot!…read more I ADORE MaST Charter and seriously miss it so much. A lot has changed for the better since I graduated. Not that anything was wrong when I was there, but all of us alum are jealous of the new broadcasting studio, library/lounge, and entire new building! This school is a K-12, meaning if you're child is lucky enough to get in early, you would be a fool to send them to another school. MaST is easily the best school in Philadelphia. Why you ask? Do you know any other charter school that has a multimillion dollar expansion, small classroom sizes, teachers who know every student in the grade by first and last name? Also, I was just telling someone how you could never skip class at MaST no matter how slick you think you are. The teachers notice when their students are gone and will notify their parent/guardian. I know from experience... oooucch. As lame as it sounds, this school is seriously like a gigantic family. I know plenty of people who went to public schools or other charters and they are shocked to hear that I graduated with 77 other students. We were are friends or at least acquaintances and went on a class trip to Disney together. MaST now has opportunities to take trips abroad (with chaperone's of course). This school is also EXTREMELY safe. No metal detectors or security is needed here. Save all that fro Washington or Lincoln. From an educational standpoint, I thought this school was not a walk in the park by any means. You could always get help if you needed it, whether it was from teachers staying late to other students. They have a good amount of sports teams at MaST except football which a lot of the boys complained about, but they would have tag football games from time to time. I had such a great time in high school (I went to MaST such 5th grade, but really started to appreciate it in 8th-12th). Apply ASAP! Students are chosen by a lottery system. I will be back to visit at least twice a year for the raffle and to see my fave teachers!

I based my rating on MaST 3 .. I'm starting to believe they're treating the outside neighborhood kids differently than they do the kids that are from that neighborhood prove me wrong

This school has it's pros and cons. The pro is the small…read moreclass sizes. Less than 50 students per grade, so it is possible to know all of your classmates. This is also a con because it makes "cliques" more apparent. Pros: Parent-teacher relationships are strong. Attached to the church so there is no walking outside during inclement weather. Nuns still teach and run the school, this is less common in some other Catholic schools. Convenient for local children. Has after school program. CORA is available to tutor children who are having trouble, this happens during school hours. Cons: Costly, there are even charges if your child stays for lunch (which last I remember is held in the classrooms since there is no proper cafeteria.) Lack of after school activities, and those that do exist are expensive. Extracurricular classes are poor, in particular gym, which is held in the chilly basement of the church. Small class sizes mean advanced students are held back. To keep them busy they are asked to help less advanced students. Most of the student body lives in the area and graduates to Archbishop Ryan. Religion is held in high regard, and is very prevalent in the classroom. By attending this school, CCD is not mandatory as you study for and receive the sacraments through their church.

Hey I went to CTK in the mid 1960's to early 70's. The average size class was about 4o students per…read moreroom. There was no gym. For lunch you either ate in the classroom or walked home for lunch. Maybe you went over to Academy Plaza But you know what ! I received a good catholic school education, and I would not change that for anything.

Pros: So far I like this school that my daughter attend, I…read morehave no major issues with any of the staff and believe that the staff here actually care about the students. I have been sending her here for 2 years now and she will more than likely continue coming here up until 5th grade. The staff is all really nice and seem to be teaching my daughter a lot. I can see a huge progression in both reading and math and my daughter actually enjoys going to school. There are so many good things going on with this school, like they just installed security cameras and last year the roof was redone. Although this is a public school, they are making the necessary changes so that our children remain safe in their learning environment. They have a lot of activities and things for parents to involve themselves with the school and their children's lives, from fundraisers for the home and school and parent round table meetings to improve the school. The school is very diverse so your child has the chance to be around a melting pot of cultures and races. Cons: I had an issue last year with my daughter being bullied and the school sorta intervened but I feel like they need to take bullying more seriously and focus on stopping the bullying when it occurs. Another downfall to this school is the main office, whenever I go to the main office to pick my daughter up they take forever and if i have a set appointment time for her, they take so long actually getting her to come down and i have to speed like a maniac to get there in time. I usually come about 30 minutes earlier just because I know it will take a while to sign her out! I also have some issues with the office women, a few times their attitude was just unwelcoming and terrible. If they are working with parents of the children who attend there, they should be a little nicer.
