Needless to say I was immensely happy to notice (the night before) that the streets were getting ready for some sort of celebration. I asked people at the street and got informed of the summer solstice parade, very multicultural, happy, glittery and all things nice. I absolutely loved the Brazilian dances and music (I am a fan of the genre) and was ready to show my samba skills (excuse: wasn't wearing the proper gear!). Loved also the latest band/paraders (beautiful sexy blond ladies wearing 70s looking like clothing) and really fun men dancing, singing and drumming non-stop during all the way of the parade (we followed them because nothing could beat their pseudo voodoo barbie dolls and black magic decor. Well, what to say about the senior dancers? They were just amazing and fantastic. Age is just a number and I could see with my own eyes. Happiness was contagious. The pole dancers inside the giant plastic ball were equally amazing, delighting viewers with their pirouettes and style. There was glitter, there was confetti (promptly clean after the parade), there was awesome music (the imitator of Freddy Mercury was so awesome and cool dude) and it was a sunny day with those beautiful Santa Barbara jacaranda trees and Spanish revival buildings as scenery. I got to be in the solstice parade this year in a group called a Flamboyance of Flamingos!! This…read morewas my first time being in the parade after watching the parade for many years. It was a great time and I can't wait to be in it again next year!! The only tip I have for being IN the parade is STAY HYDRATED!! The parade is only 1 mile but it's a slow mile as the parade crawls and it gets VERY hot being on the asphalt. So bring more water than you need. Most floats have igloos full of water and some people are handing out water on the side of the parade. Watching the parade, be sure that you get there early or set up your blankets the night before starting at 5pm. It's worth is to get a good spot. But anywhere is a good spot! If you're like me and you just like to show up to watch, just plan to stand in the crosswalk. It's great viewing and do t have to fight for a spot as much. I like to watch the parade closer to Sola St so I can walk to Alameda Park after for the Solstice celebration! There bands, food, activities and a beer garden!! It's a great time and goes from Friday night to Sunday afternoon. It's good clean family-friendly fun!!

( Thursdays from ten am to one pm). I am giving a commendation to Charles who manage the center and to Claudia who is the Activities Manager ( she is efficient and amiable). Now that the global pandemic is over, I call on fun loving and healthy seniors to come to GVCC senior center (after it's renovated) and have fun with us.

Years ago I used to belong to Car Clubs... The events were fun but I got too involved, eventualy…read morethe politics got in the way... I lost interest. A year or so ago I started visiting Cars and Coffee which meets on Sunday mornings on Coast Village Road (Last Sunday of the month it meets in the upper village in Montecito). A bunch of Car guys and gals. Everything from the newest Mercedes gullwing to the fastest Ferrari or Lexus LFA to Model T's, hot rods and even motorcycles! The people are NICE and even the Porsche owners aren't pretentious!!! (sorry Porsche owners). People are genuinly nice! There is no "membership" no "dues" and no pressure! Just a bunch of like minded people who enjoy their cars getting together weekly to share their passion! A few times a year they have events. Today was a ride down to the Malibu Cafe off of Mulhulland Highway in Malibu. A great ride. Following two Cobras, a couple of Ferraris, a Porsche and a Corvette was a bit of a challenge. But watching my wife keeping up with them in the Honda convertible (I was on a motorcycle) was so HOT!!! I would encourage anyone to come by and check out the cars... or bring a car. Just be there by 8am because the event has become quite popular and parking spaces are at a premium!

I performed here with a quintet called Max and the Makeups almost exactly 10 years ago, July 2nd 2010. I understand why some patrons might have been a bit intimidated by this place-- before the music started, there was an uneasy, restless vibe; I had the distinct impression that the house was steeped in some really unusual mix of counterculture mythology I couldn't identify or understand. The audience and the other bands were a bit dubious when we arrived, probably due to our advanced years-- the term "hobby rockers" was muttered by some of the other artists-- but everything changed when the set started, and we delivered about an hour of some of the most savage punk rock I've played since I turned 50. The crowd was absolutely rabid; I hadn't felt that kind of energy in a long time, and I've only felt it a few times since. When we got offstage-- or the living room, or wherever it was-- my impression of the place shifted dramatically. I felt like I'd known everyone for decades, and it was like all of us were swamped by a wave of positive energy. I remember coming outside for a break while another band was playing-- I think it was RF7, but don't quote me on that-- and the walls were literally pulsing to the beat of the music. I remember being astonished that all the windows did not break and the doors blow off their hinges and into the yard. If the planet ever becomes more hospitable to human life again, I hope this place, or something like it, is resurrected.

O ya, there was firestone on tap all over the place and the beers were like $5. there was not even the slightest type of a search at the entrance, i literally walked in with a Hoegaarden beer i was drinking while in the parking lot. i walked right past the sherrif, the cop looked so miserable it looked like he wanted to arrest everyone but he couldnt make sense of how everyone was just chillin. hahaha fukn coppers anyways, the shit was $65 for one day which is well worth it. warning: if u dont eat vegan, u better have some shit in yr car because from what i remember, all the food was vegan. we were rollin on the X so we wanted to try some shit, noticed an vegan pizza counter and walked up to it, but i didnt notice an oven to which homegirl workin there said that it was vegan and raw.i was like RAW PIZZA WTF@!!!!! homegirl said that it wasnt even really pizza and was actually like a bunch of grains compressed or some shit wiht sliced cucumbers with chili on top. as nutty as that shit sounds, that shit was banging!!! i asked homegirl for some refreshing drink , to which she gave us some crazy super anti-oxidant thick juice that was literally like crack. every sip made us feel more and more fucked up on x!! it was great! there were three stages, one was actual performance music, one was the degenerate beats djs stage and the last one was the rave stage which was superawesomely located the shit was at the far end of the event which is right next to a medium sized lake and there are mountains n the distance. the sun was setting over the lake while jon tejada was dropping rave beats fukn awesome! the whole event is so degenerate, that the rave stage is also against the far end of one of the parking lots so close that the people can actually walk in for free right there!!! the fence is a short 3 foot chain link that had a large section completely laid down and i was freely walkin in and out of going closer to the lake to chill and blaze while a badass rave was going on!!! try to convince me that coachella beats that!!! ya right! coachella keeps becoming more and more policed and regulated and this shit allowed us to go in n out like it was nothing, no one cares. i am for sure going back next year! o ya and the ticket prices also get u a camping spot which is located against the lake on a little hill. as well as entrance to all the yoga shit that goes on. we dont have time for shit like that, we practice kush extasy yoga and we go venture with yoda to another realm saw all kinds of youngsters havin fun too, im talkin three four year olds with their fam bams camping. fukn unreal

As a gay-identifying cis male, we unfortunately do not have a designated GLBT bar to be ourselves. While I would like to say that the days of needing a "safe space" to mix and mingle with others in the community--like a gayborhood--are behind us, sadly it is difficult living in a town without such a venue; even in a fairly liberal, Californian college town. Thankfully there is the adjacent Little Kitchen and Bobcat Room+The Wildcat Lounge (often referred to as "The Shitty Kitty" by locals not only a play on its name, but also due to being one of the latest closing establishments on Lower State's nightlife scene where folks get sh*tfaced). Since right before the start of COVID, they kicked off a weekly Sunday Glitter Brunch. SUNDAY GLITTER BRUNCH is a collaboration of Drag Queens--often led by local MCs Vivian Storm and Angel D'mon--with visiting performers from the far stretches of Los Angeles, cocktails by the Wildcat Lounge, and brunch service by The Little Kitchen. Sure, the food is decent yet overpriced fare. Yes, the drinks aren't as stiff as the average Santa Barbara cocktail for the price (though where else can you get a brightly colored pink drink like The Snap-Pea?!). The venue is outdoors on a patio and parking lot/alleyway with a hodgepodge of furniture. Let's be honest, one comes here to let down their hair, throw some shade, and find their inner singing/dancing diva! At this, the Glitter Brunch triumphs!! I was stoked to see that the Glitter Brunch survived and often sells out post-pandemic! I think we all just needed to get out of our homes and shells to socialize as humans are meant to. The venue still manages to take all health precautions seriously. There is hand sanitizer readily available, socially distanced seating arrangements, masked workers AND performers. So comfortable and safe that I came here with my beloved mother, sister and best friend before vaccines were readily available. And truthfully, the only things "unsanitized" were Vivian Storm's mouth and Angel D'mon's dresses... :X Sorry, not sorry! All in all, everyone has a fabulous time singing in sync (or not), grooving, and drinking to reincarnated, talented divas from the past. In all honesty, it was just what the doctor had ordered for our sanity. Please continue to support this establishment, this (almost) weekly show on Sunday afternoons and these hardworking drag queens!
