Rancho La Patera & Stow House

We've been to Stow House several times. First was maybe five or six years ago. We were able to…read moretake a tour of the inside of the historic home at that time. That was before we discovered the "Passport 2 History" program. When we did get the Passport and reviewed which spots were in it, I was glad to see this property listed, as an incentive to go back. We made a return visit two months ago, on a warm Saturday afternoon. It was lovely to see the vintage architecture spotlighted against a brilliant autumn sky. Warmer than usual, with no wind, it was a great time to be at the property. There was a young woman covering the gift shop. She told us that while the grounds were open, they weren't able to offer tours of the house that day. "Shortage of docents". I don't know the situation with who currently owns / runs the house - is it a foundation, the City, the County? Many historic properties were deeded by descendants of original owners to local municipalities to be shared with the public going forward. I'm sure that it's a challenge for any legacy property like this to get enough docents lined up, trained, and scheduled. They would mostly be volunteers, after all. While it was disappointing to not revisit the interior of the mansion, we did collect out P2H sticker, then spent time wandering the grounds. That was something we hadn't done previously. The lawn areas and mature palm trees are serene and beautiful. Going around the perimeter of the main house yielded new views I don't recall before. We snapped some photos, then adjourned to the train museum next door. The next time we're in the area, we'll call ahead to see if they are offering tours that day. Might be wise to do the same!

A tad of Chinese immigrant history here. One of the workers lived in the bunker and helped this farm. The main house is beautiful! It has a Victorian Style to it. It kinda looks haunted! The place is so well kept! There is a caretaker private resident on site as well. And a very clean public bathroom. The place is simply so beautiful to look at. Very peaceful and serene. The farm area is open and my kids were able to look at old farming tools. There are benches here as well. Definately a cool place to bring a picnic. We saw people walking their dogs, enjoying the grass area, and just enjoying the scenery! Located north of Santa Barbara in the city of Goleta.

Words can not quantify the gratitude I will always have for Aileen at Blu Events and the expertise…read moreshe provided for my special day. Aileen would spend many late nights answering my concerns or making exceptional recommendations to bring my visions of my wedding day to life. When I walked into the reception area for the first time at the Villa Verano Estate, I had tears in my eyes and I was literally speechless. From the flowers to the lighting to the table cloths and all the rentals, our wedding was everything we dreamed of and more. A special thanks to her team on the actual wedding day because they were absolutely amazing and it went off seamlessly. Her and her team were by my side the entire wedding day constantly assuring me that everything was on track and going as planned, which I didn't particularly see but appreciated so much because I wasn't bothered with one thing. Aileen and her team anticipated what I needed before I even knew that I needed anything. We owe so much of our beautiful wedding day to Aileen! We couldn't have asked for a better coordinator in all parts of the process. She went above and beyond all of the responsibilities in the contract, and you can tell she really loves what she does. Early on in the process, we had already planned some of the wedding ourselves but we didn't have a very cohesive idea for the design side of our wedding. Aileen took the photos we'd saved of things we liked and our thoughts on what atmosphere we were going for and she created a digital design board for us. Her design board included our color palette, layout ideas, and design ideas for every aspect of our wedding from start to finish. It brought all of our ideas together with new ones into one cohesive, beautiful vision. If I could do one thing different it would be that I had found her sooner in the planning process. Thank you again Aileen for taking my childhood fairy tale and making it a reality. -Ashley H.

The staff was nothing short of amazing--professional, warm, organized, and genuinely invested in making sure everything was perfect. They anticipated our needs before we even thought of them and made the entire planning process feel effortless and fun. On the day of the wedding, everything ran flawlessly, and we were able to completely relax and soak in every moment. The venue itself is absolutely stunning-- the outdoor courtyard, cozy fireplace, magical string lights and more. So many of our guests told us it was the most beautiful wedding (and fun!) they've ever attended, and we couldn't agree more If you're looking for a venue that will go above and beyond to make your day unforgettable, this is it. We had toured a lot of venues in our search for 'the one' and we loved The Factory as it provided the perfect backdrop to customize our reception to our own vision. The team was incredibly responsive and easy to work with throughout the planning process, and helped us figure out every detail from our rental order, to food and beverage selection (all delicious), to live entertainment (having Brett & Co. play live jazz for the dinner hour was an incredible suggestion.) Everyone went above and beyond on the actual day to make sure our reception went off without a hitch. Our guests raved about the space and the thoughtfulness of the staff, and we absolutely loved the refined-yet-laid-back vibe The Factory afforded us. Dining and dancing under the stars in their little slice of Santa Barbara is something we could do over and over again. We would absolutely recommend hosting your event here! -Brian & Shaun

Our wedding was super small (18 people) and planned in only 4 months and The Factory team was willing to work with us every step of the way to bring our vision to life and stay within our budget (we never felt pressured and they were willing to be creative to help us cut down on cost). The venue can expand and contract to fit your needs and we loved how they were able to create a space that felt cozy and intimate for our small guest count. Especially great when kids are apart of the mix, because there's an enclosed space for them to run around and play. Food from Satellite was top-notch too. Drew was onsite to attend to all of our needs day-of. When in doubt, just book it! You won't regret it. We love The Factory!!

The stage curtains can no longer be fully retracted for a widescreen movie. Super Mario Galaxy, of all things, had about 3 feet on each side projected onto the curtains. Abandoning the beautiful entryway and its kiosk is unforgiveable. Instead you are to buy your tickets in the box office, which bears no resemblance to the rest of the building. It looks like a pop-up version of the office at your middle school. It's beautiful inside, and the unpleasant smell is faint enough you'll forget it once your popcorn and red licorice ick int. But be sure you sit in the front 10 to 20 rows if you want to actually feel you are watching a projected film on a big screen. My negativity is here to apply what small share of pressure I can contribute to what should be one of Santa Barbara's iconic landmarks. The theater is worth visiting anyway. On a certain level it is wonderful. But boy does it need a lot of work.
