I used to live in Rochester and the D&C was a beloved, reliable source of information for the whole city. Now it's a nasty little rag that gouges its most desperate and needy customers and the rest of the citizens of Rochester. Get this: the cost to run a simple obituary is $750. That's right - $750 to let the friends and family of a loved one know that that person has passed away. I don't care how much money they're losing on anything else they do, charging $750 for an obituary is the worst example of a monopoly taking advantage of its desperate and most vulnerable customers. Shame on you you A**HOLES! The worst customer service I have ever experienced. I had been getting Sunday delivery for many years - they raised their prices some every so often to be expected - But over the last 2 years the prices had become ridiculous and I had cancelled my subscription. I continuously received phone calls - sometimes 2-3 times a day, at all times of the day to re-sign. I told them each time to remove me from their call list but continued to receive calls. Earlier in the year I decided to give them another chance and bought a groupon deal which they refused to offer. I ended up getting a refund from groupon but after many many customer service calls trying to get the D & C to accept it - but they kept saying "Groupon never paid us" - despite calls from groupon to them personally. If you like the coupons and ads like I do - do yourself a favor just look them all up online instead! read more

terrible service. paper never delivered to my boardman street address. find a different service.

I have been subjected to poor service from this paper for three years. Delivery is inconsistent and additional inserts such as the Sunday TV section which I pay an additional fee is not consistently included. I have called the service department and my concerns have not been addressed and the staff has been rude. read more

Terrible lack of customer service! Sub par paper delivery. Paper is often wet and thrown in front yard. Customer request for paper to be delivered in D & C box on porch has not been honored. Policy states they honor customer requests. They do not honor customer requests. Automated email responses to this issue. No promised returned phone calls. (for weeks) Follow up calls not addressed by district manager. Even when I called, and issue was transferred to the "Escalation department," zero customer service. read more

These people are the worst. If it were not for elderly people still liking "the paper" they would no longer be in business. They miss lead you into deals then flat out lie. The worst service ever!! They deliver when they feel like it and you never really see an itemized statement as to what you are being charged for and credits applied when they say they are due to the paper not being delivered. We dropped them long ago because of their poor service and delivery. My dad still wants the paper so I'm dealing with them all over again. They can't comprehend someone having an account that they are paying for, but having the paper delivered to a different address. It is a big fat mess. My mom had an account, but when my dad moved to a nursing home, she had the paper delivered to him there. She still got and paid the bill. They decided it was too expensive so they canceled. I bought a groupon and opened an account my self with delivery to him. Things were all messed up because they "just reopened his account". So the discount I go was no good. Mind you, he never had an account....it was all in my mothers name. So...what are they talking about? Then while on a live chat trying to get this straightened out, my conversation was just dropped because their chat hours ended. Nice, huh. I sent an email with all the information and what had just happened with the chat at asked to be contacted to finish getting this fixed. Have not heard a word. Then today a bill came. In my dad's name...to my address. Again, what? If it's his account no in his name, not mine, why is the bill coming to my house and not the nursing home.
