Had a chance to spend two nights in the tent cabins (they have regular cabins too!) right on the Gulkana River. Literally step outside the cabin and into the river. Simply amazing. We were there during the sockeye salmon run and the river was thick with fish and the trees heavy with bald eagles looking for a meal. The cabin had the best best bed we slept in, in all of Alaska. King size temperpedic mattress with lovely sheets and comforter with a great Hudson Bay blanket for extra warmth. A private bath and shower was just a few steps from our cabin (although a bit far for a quick midnight visit...). Audie and Jenny were great hosts and they put out a wonderful spread for breakfast. They keep chickens, so look for the fresh eggs! Audie is incredibly knowledgable about the area, Alaska, and the natural world. Do spend some time chatting with them both. This was a great spot for us and we will return as soon as we can. read more
