Amazingly Beautiful! One of the many stops along the way to Fairbanks from Anchorage. This has to be my fave spot so far. The gorgeous landscape goes on for miles and miles. Definitely a must see if you're in the area. This place has 2 observation areas. Theres one just near the parking lot. And then theres a second one just a lil hike up the trail. The second one is where you'll get a better view of it all. So if you're nearby you gotta see this!!!!

On a clear day, this is such a great location for viewing Denali!! There is a well paved viewing deck close to the parking and, for a short five minute walk, you can get another (better?) view. Lots of educational boards explaining a host of information. My favorite is the long board telling the heights and names of all the peaks you are looking at as well as the distance they are from you. There is also a sign that tells you there are over 650 peaks taller than Denali around the world. That's crazy!!

QUESTION: Is this the absolute best view of Denali you can get without being in a plane? ANSWER: Yes. If you do the very short hike up the viewpoint here you will get a "holy crap", unobstructed view of Denali and most of the greater peaks in the Alaska range. A couple tips: 1: The best shots of this can be made by getting a telephoto lens (100 to 200mm will do) and taking a bunch of vertical shots, then using a stitching program to merge them into a panorama. If you take a photo in a single-shot, using a wider lens...the mountains will tend to look tiny. And you'll have to be the guy that says things like "yeah well..they looked way better in person, you had to be there." Don't be that guy. 2: This is open YEAR ROUND. However, the parking lot is not open in the winter. You have to park on the side of the road and walk in. 3: This can be an amazing spot to witness and photograph the Northern Lights. 4: If you're on your way to Denali National Park, you MUST stop here. Your odds of seeing Denali are much much lower from inside the park.

It's a small little Park very well maintained. They offer free viewfinders No Quarters required. These two different views of Denali mountain and this big Gorge. The rain and clouds really cute of you for me today. Still very enjoyable little stroll. Maybe a quarter mile hike up the hill we can get a great View. Definitely worth the stop.

A must hit spot to view Denali. The best view point we've seen.

During our visit to the Talkeetna area there were wildfires burning, we were unable to make it to the meeting area but Fred and his helper Rich came to the hotel and picked us up so we wouldn't miss out on the fun. He first took us to a secluded spot by a river where the salmon were literally swimming between our feet. We could have reached down and scooped them up, but we were there to learn how to fly fish, so learn we did! Fred was extremely patient with me and my husband....and our limited fishing abilities! He came supplied with everything you could need or want during the tour. The waders fit perfectly, and kept us warm in the glacier water. While driving to our second fishing spot he supplied yummy croissant sandwiches to snack on during the ride. The second fishing spot had just as many salmon and we were able to catch quite a few fish. I had a beautiful trout on my line but unfortunately I didn't snag him and he got off the hook. I was bummed, but Fred is so encouraging before I knew it I had a huge salmon on the line and brought it in successfully. While we enjoyed fishing Rich cooked up some salmon by the shore along with vodka tonic and rum and cokes. We took a break to enjoy a perfect meal of deliciously cooked salmon and a nice cocktail. It was seriously a perfect day, despite the wildfires in area. I just hope that Rich and Fred's property were not impacted. If I am ever back in the area, this would be the first tour I book. It was a great experience and a super fun day!! Thank you Fred and Rich for making this the highlight of our trip!

Had a delicious lunch and drinks and caught fish all afternoon. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect day. The spot Fred took us the fish were jumping out of the water right before our eyes. As the sun started to go down it was impossible not to catch a fish. We even ate our fresh fish on the beach. We were celebrating my Mom's 60th Birthday and Fred made it an extra special day. My brother is already wanting to make another Alaska trip next year just to fish with Fred!

It's a beautiful memorial, and if you're lucky you might see Denali in all her glory (as we did.) She's usually only visible 30% of the time. This stop has lots of bathrooms and parking too. When we stopped we were the only ones there. Well... us and the mosquitoes. In the span of 15 minutes, I got bit 5 times. And this was the only place that mosquitoes were a problem on our whole 10 day trip.

One of the rest stops was this beautiful open memorial park grove which pays homage to military veterans from Alaska. As described, "We dedicate this place in remembrance of the veterans of Alaska who have served their country at home and throughout the world. We honor their heroism and dedication." The memorial consists of five concrete panels about 20 feet high that represent the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard service branches. Each panel describes that branches contribution in Alaskan history. The memorial is located at about 147.1 along the George Parks Highway. It's located on the right side of the highway as you are driving from Anchorage to Denali National Park. A somber and respectful memorial which can be enjoyed when driving to or coming from the Denali National Park area.
