It felt like we were playing follow the leader for 5 mi up and 5 mi back on a largely straight trail. The endpoint is a lovely home with a picturesque stream but we were expecting that once we got there we'd actually be able to freestyle on the ATVs a bit. This was simply our expectations, there's nothing in their advertising that says this will happen. Even so, if you're hoping to have an exciting ride, this was kind of tame. We never really got above 15 mph on the trail. The guides were great, nothing against them. Just really missed our expectations. Based on the other reviews, most people seem to love it.

When you go to the original homestead, it is mosquito ridden make sure you use the deet offered or pay the consequences.

There we tons of songbirds seranading us in the trees. The last two zips near the lake were my favorite. Simply beautiful. Also really enjoyed the rappel. We are already planning our next ziplining adventure with their sister company in Seward which apparently includes 3 rappels.

Very well thought through and safety first. They know what they are doing. This particular zip line is you always stay with your group. Two staff and 8 customers. We go one by one, one zip line at a time. I was fortunate that group was very friendly and we got to know them while waiting for others to zip. They have nine zips and well, they are okay. Done here once and I don't think I would repeat again type level. Yes it was beautiful and all but excitement level was just an average for me. It's still fun way to spend a few hours outdoors safely. You may want to use a mosquito repellent prior to your arrival. While mosquitoes may not come up high, we eventually have to come down, and they are a lot of them here.

My son and I enjoyed getting out in a river and actually digging and panning for our own gold! Not like other places where they 'guarantee' you will find some because they have sprinkled the dirt beforehand with gold dust! This was actually driving out in the middle of nowhere, hiking to a secluded spot on the bank of a river, shoveling dirt and gravel from the riverbed, straining the larger rocks out, and then panning for the small specks of gold. While the flour gold is small (not like the nuggets you see on television), this is the reality of gold panning. And Rich is quite a character - he's a straight shooter telling great stories along the way. He was patient with teaching us how to pan and was excited when we found what we were looking for! It was a great experience and I highly recommend it!

We just went out with Todd this morning and had the best time, despite the rain, wet and cold! My…read moreboyfriend and I had Todd and his sweet dog, Bandit, all to ourselves and we were one of the first ones on the river this morning! While the spot is a popular spot, it was teaming with salmon and plenty for all! Todd literally caught a fish on his first cast (he was giving a quick tutorial). My boyfriend and I caught and released about 20 chum and pink "humpy" salmons and still caught our quota of silver (coho) salmon. (In AK you can only keep 3). We only reserved him for a half day, which was plenty for us given the unlucky weather. Todd was super helpful and had all of the gear we would need, including waders, printed our fishing licenses for us, had multiple rods ready to use, had fly fishing rods (which we didn't try, but he was using them) and took care of all our netting, and filleting our fish. You could tell he really knows his stuff and that the other outfitters were a little jealous of all the fish we were catching. Apparently it all has to do with the "rig" we were using (aka the hook, tackle, set-up of the rod). He then gave us the number of a really nice lady, Crystal, who doesn't normally work on Sundays, but met us anyways to help process and ship our fish home. (I will review once we get home and reunited with our fish.) Overall, our experience was great and exactly what we came to AK for. When you're out with a guide for several hours, personality is important. I was worried that our guide might be a grouchy local snob (since we are from SD and clearly tourists) or overly cheesy (which we were a little sick of after being on a cruise ship). Todd is the guy that lives here, owns and operates his own business, and clearly takes pride and care in guiding others in what he does very well. Todd patiently worked with us to get our casting down then we spent the day sight casting to trout -- catching several really nice ones!
