By far my favorite KOA we've stayed in. First time in June 2023 in old site 8 now (17 or 18) and last week on site 39 on 7/7/26. Chuck, the owner, was awesome and super accommodating with our group. Remolded and added our new section that is great. Showers/bathrooms are directly across from 39. Still the incredible views of area and night skies are clear. Breakfast is conditionally good with pancakes and meat for cheap. Just a great place and people. read more

We were looking for a KOA that was located pretty close to my daughter's home in Conifer. So we decided to try Denver West/Central City KOA . The views coming up here were absolutely stunning. I told my daughter that this was a campground in the sky lol! So far up in the beautiful mountains and where the temperature was much cooler. We choose KOA bc they are easy to book, have a late check in and some nice amenities. This one had two hot tubs, a dog park , pancakes all you can eat for $3.25 and a pizza and wing place. We don't use most of the amenities bc we never stay long enough. But the dog park-Freckles love them and can run around in a safe and clean environment! Each KOA is so different. This one has the feel of a Rocky Mountain with rocks and gravel roads. Our site was very nice with full hook ups and a cement place to park. We would highly recommend this KOA! read more

This campground is absolutely beautiful. The views are amazing and the grounds are immaculate. My kids are 11 and 13. The whole family loved our relaxing stay here. We came for the mountain biking nearby at Marilyn Mountain which is a scenic three miles away. The owners clearly have strict rules that keep the place nice, so if rules aren't your thing, keep driving. read more

Wow! This is the best KOA WITH VIEWS, VIEWS, AND more VIEWS! Close to Casinos, the Big city of Denver metro and all the wonderful lil mountain towns west of Denver! They've done a fantastic job with privatizing the sites with large Pine trees and landscape. I've been to M A N Y KOA's and this one is the best. Camped here for a long weekend and absolutely loved it! Bathrooms are clean, campground views are beautiful, and they have pancake breakfasts every morning! Regan even made the pancakes into fun shapes for us :) The staff went above and beyond to make sure you had what you needed, and you were enjoying your stay. They also have a gift shop and yard games. I highly recommend, I'd 100% stay here again! Edit: now reading reviews of mistreatment and rudeness from the owner. We did not have any run-ins with him so I can't speak on it but I don't support or agree with that. So disappointing! read more

Loved this campground. The campsites were good size, facilitates were more than clean, and the staff went above and beyond. They gave us pancake batter when we ran out, let us use the hot tub a little after closing and told us places to check out. I plan on staying here again. read more

Denver West / Central City KOA - Incredible view - RV Parks Near Me - Central City, Colorado

WARNING! Stay elsewhere! I have stayed at KOA's all across America while traveling and I am completely flabbergasted by this owners aggressive, crude, unprofessional mistreatment of customers. My husband and I have stayed here for the spring while in Colorado and mainly dealt with his son (which by the way is the nicest guy, very helpful and so are the other employees). Tonight I was taking my dogs out to go potty (whilst the owner was yelling, complaining about something nearby, we could hear him) and I went to bring my dogs in and get a bag to pick up after them, while walking back inside he rudely approaches me with "you gonna pick that up?", "yes" I replied, "I'm bringing my dogs in and getting a bag, I always pick up after them." We have a garbage can behind our grill outside the camper with our pets waste, you can see it filled with doggie bags. Anyway he argued with me and yelled "can't wait for you to leave!" I didn't feel right about him saying that so I went to the office to let them know that an employee just unrightfully yelled this to me. We've been here for 2 months, if you had any problems with us why wouldn't you let us know? He was clearly having a BAD day. So he was outside the office and shouted while waving his arms towards me "I'M THE OWNER, I'm not having this conversation and if you say ONE more word you're out of here!" We had plans to leave in a few days and we paid up for the week so I said "but we've paid for the week?", mind you it's 8pm at night. Even bystanders were standing in disbelief of his mistreatment towards me. He then stomped inside and brought me a receipt for a refund for the week and told me to be out by 11am. We've stayed here for 66 days with 4 days left and he kicks us out because he's angry for no good reason? Absurd I cannot believe anyone would treat a customer this way especially in front of his employees and other customers. I would not recommend staying here and giving this man any business. I'll also be in touch with KOA corporate to make them aware of such volatile ownership. *P.S. I now see other reviews from the exact same type of mistreatment and behavior from this man, specifically towards women (surprisingly more belligerent abuse than my interaction with him). I wonder if KOA's new female CEO Toby O'Rourke would approve of his behavior. We'll see! read more

Going to keep this short. Campground is incredible. Breath taking views and great location. To a to do in area or close by. Unfortunately, the owner is very aggressive and borderline abusive to customer. Be careful staying here for more than a night or two as you'll probably have a run in with him and it's not pretty. Make no mistake, this is a well-maintained KOA with stunningly gorgeous views, a friendly and helpful staff and easy access to the local casinos. The issue we had with this KOA is that it advertises cable as an amenity and it is included in the cost of the campsite - but it is non-existent. I'm not a fan of paying for something I'm not receiving - and just because they have a cable hookup does not mean it works. I know, first world problems. If you have your own cable setup this KOA is 5 stars. read more

This KOA was absolutely gorgeous. It is at an elevation just under 9,000ft. The drive up and down to get there is amazing! They have fun games for the kiddos, and even though we stayed during the off-season, the camp games were fun for our kiddos to play. If we are ever through the area, we will stay again. read more

Warning! Beware! The KOA at Denver West/Central City is at elevation 8,967ft! The altitude is difficult unless you are used to high altitudes. This campground is ¾ mile higher than Denver and it's difficult to breath or sleep. There is no mention of this anywhere in advertised literature. Not to mention, the owner of this campground is the meanest prick we ever ran into while RV camping! Here are the details. We stayed at the campground for one night out of a reserved 5 nights. After not being able to sleep all night due to lack of breath, and not feeling well or being able to even nap the next morning I decided to check the elevation, surprised to find the camp sight at almost twice the altitude of Denver. NOT HEALTHY! My wife called the office to inquire on partial refund because we knew we could not stay at that elevation. The office gal said we would need to discuss it with the owner and that nothing could be done without conversing directly with the owner. I got in the car and went down to the office to have the discussion. When I expressed my concern that I could not stay at the campground due to the altitude and corresponding health consequences, the owner (Chuck Spencer) blurted out "Sorry to hear about that" in a rude and aggressive manner. I request a refund for the next four nights and he solidly refused. He told me they were at full capacity and all he could do was to give me credit to come back and stay another time. I had to remind Chuck that I would not ever be coming back because of the altitude, and then suggested that I could have the charges contested through our credit card company. That got him upset and he accused me of threatening him or his business, so I had to correct him again and told him "I am not here threatening anybody. I am here to try to get you to modify our reservation because my health is threatened at this altitude." Ricks response to me was, "There's the door." I said I knew where the door was, and again explained that I can't stay at the campground and compromise my health. I explained that I had not been able to sleep the prior night and that I simply cannot stay. His reply was "There's the door. Get the f*ck out of my store!" He then very aggressively moved around the counter as if to through me out, and I had to warn him to "Keep your hands off of me". He then threatened me again, mentioning that he has means to deal with me 'just under the counter', insinuating he had a weapon. He basically kicked me out of the campground for no good reason. While we were packing up one of his employees inquired why we were leaving so soon, and we told him about our experience with Chuck. To our surprise he agreed and told us that Chucky could be real difficult and rude to some of the guests. We left. We packed it all in and found another RV park at Denver altitude. This is fair warning to every RV'er out there regarding this campground. The owner is a prick and thinks he can bully and threaten his guests. His poor sense for business and how he treats his customers will be his downfall. On top of that, the altitude will take your wind away. It's hard to breath or enjoy anything at that altitude. Also, there are no grassy areas to run or exercise your dog. I would give this place zero stars if I could, based on the rude prick that runs the place. Don't take a chance with your vacation! Even though we left after one night, the prick owner said he would not refund us for the next four nights so we had to dispute the charges on the CC. If the KOA community took a look at him and how he operates, they would be justified in pulling their endorsement. read more

This place was bizarre at best. We came in for a reservation at 8:30 PM, and were told that the dumpsters closed at 9 PM. So after checking in we drove our camper trailer over to the dumpsters and were immediately swarmed by dudes in golf carts! They came rushing up on us asking us where are you going! Where are you going!? You can't go this way! This way is for tent campers! And got on the radios... After explaining that we just want to put our garbage safely away before the Bears can get it, they allowed us to do so, and waited and watched while we did. Then in an extravagant display of their ridiculous power, one guy in his golf cart got out and started waving us and directing us on how to turn around as though we were a giant Boeing 747. We have a 12 foot camper trailer... We know what we're doing and it's not hard. The person proceeded to drive us to our spot - drove through the very easy access pull through location - again getting out of his golf cart to wave us in like a plane. Carefully making sure we weren't going to attempt to go anywhere else in the camp.Then he pointed to the exit which we were facing and said "when it's time for you to leave you just leave. There is no need for you to go anywhere else. You just. Leave. " - we had paid over $80 for our spot, because it was the last one left. It had full hook ups and a darling picnic table and chairs look like they've never been used. And we had no need for any of it. We were simply staying over the night, and despite having our reservations and paying our price just like everyone else because we didn't have an extravagant RV worth more than all of our vehicles combined, I feel like we were treated like rubbage. But maybe that's just how these people are. Either way it was uncomfortable and I don't plan on coming back. read more

Stayed here for 1 night and our experience was a very nice one. This place is very clean and we had an easy pull through campsite. A little pricy but you can see that they take care of the facility. They have pizza delivery to your campsite which is nice and unusual. My husband went to the spa and again very impressed with the cleanliness of the place. read more

This was our 1st time camping ever, and we had a ball. They guided us right up to our spot and made sure we got settled OK. The bathrooms and shower room were spotless and very convenient with unlimited hot water. We were having a problem with a smell we thought might be sewage related but Chuck the owner came up and helped us troubleshoot it to the fact that our batteries were being overcharged and cooking off releasing sulfur gas. They brought up tools and helped me disconnect the batteries, and he even gave us a history lesson of the park and the building of the Central City Parkway which was fascinating. The park is closing for the season in 3 days, so some of the amenities like pizza delivery were not available, and the store was a little empty for supplies. COVID has also taken away the ability to use the hot tub and take the shuttle into Central City but with scenery like there was up there it really didn't matter that much. I would not hesitate to stay here again and we are looking to our 2nd trip in the spring. read more

We have never experienced such disrespect by a owner/manager. He threatened my husband. Said he had a weapon under the counter to mitigate problems. It all started when we told them the elevation made us physically ill and we couldn't stay. Asked to mitigate our bill. Look I was willing to pay for an additional day but for 5 more? He could have cared less. Said only would issue rain check. Don't plan to go back and get sick again. When we said we would take it up with our credit card company the owner, yes, he is the owner, started the threats. Stay away. Heard from others this isn't unusual. They deserve 5 stars for the view alone! Paved site, amaaaaazing view, patio site is beautiful, decent pizza delivered to your site, chipmunks, church bells in the valley below, passing thunderstorm, hot tubs, totally unique, clean & private restrooms, hot water that doesn't run out, nice store, felt as though the elements added here were of good quality. Amazing KOA site with great employees. I would love to stay here again and it had plenty of amenities even during COVID.

This Place ripped us off for almost $79. We made a reservation traveling from Moab Utah and DOT in all their wisdom closed I-70 at exit 87 (flooding? construction? who knows!) sending travelers on a 200+ (you heard me right) detour through winding mountain roads elevating to almost 12000 ft at one point. It was clear half way that were not going to make it to the other side. It was 3pm when we called the campground and while they acknowledged that I-70 does close at times, they refused to refund our money because "you have an open road". We are a senior couple and we were tired and did not want to drive these roads in the dark. We were lucky enough to find a wonderful resort in Granby and called the KOA to tell them we would not make it and again request a refund. They refused again. I asked that the manager, who had left for the day, call me in the morning. I never heard from her. When we left Granby, the last 50 miles back to I-70 was as bad as the first 130 miles and we realized quickly we would not have made it in the dark. I filed a complaint with KOA cooperate the next day and still didn't hear back from the manager. I also have a complaint pending with the BBB. We have been RVing for 30 years and know the cancelation policies better than some of the staff at the places we stay. This was NO FAULT of ours yet this campground took advantage of senior couple who didn't want to risk their safely traveling winding mountain roads in the dark. If you are traveling east on I-70 and you see a sign saying closed, get off before exit 87 and find a place to spend the night. I-70 did reopen the next day. It also closes westbound and your sent on the same detour but I'm not sure at what exit. DO NOT take the detour, especially with an RV. AND......DO NOT GIVE THIS CAMPGROUND ONE CENT UNTIL YOU ARE THROUGH THE GATES! read more

This campground was a slice of heaven for us! We are so thankful they found a way to be open during the Covid 19 situation. The check-in procedure did not require us to go into the main building. (Although we did visit it later where we were able to purchase essentials, and we felt completely safe with everyone in masks.) Our deluxe camping cabin was absolutely immaculate! The queen bed was so comfortable! We loved sleeping with the windows open to let in the fresh mountain air. Our teen daughters slept in the little bunk room on the other side of the cabin (which lent us all some privacy.) Their mattresses were comfortable too! Can you tell how important sleep is to us on vacation?? There were plenty of electrical outlets to plug in the ever important electronic devices. We grilled out one night (grill provided,) and felt like we had everything we needed. My ONLY complaint was the size of the coffee cups. Ha! They were too small for a decent cup of coffee. But we had a Keurig in our kitchenette to brew our own coffee, so I really shouldn't complain. Central City and Black Hawk were pretty closed down, but we did find a place for dinner one night that allowed patrons under 21. We were thankful. We will definitely return and stay longer! read more

First off, they totally screwed up several people's registrations, including ours. Then we got moved to one of the worst sites on the property. They moved our friends stuff out of her site while she was biking. Then made her switch to a crappy site. The owner of this KOA is a piece of work. Instead of saying sorry for the screw up, he refunded her money and made her leave. Seeing all of this happen, I decided to cancel the remaining days of our reservation and switched to a different campground. This was the absolute worst KOA I've ever stayed at. And that sucks, because this specific KOA has so much potential. It's a beautiful property. read more

Nice playground. A game area right outside the office entrance. A huge Connect 4 game, a large size Jenga game, a large checker set, a bean bag toss game. Good place to stop overnight. 2 hot tubs, good cable, decent wifi. Had a pancake breakfast there. It was pretty good. We stayed here in a motorhome. read more

Great KOA with customer friendly staff. We were on the upper section with a back in site and incredible view. Plenty of room for maneuvering even big rigs. Restrooms were clean and showers were in great condition. Store was well stocked as the nearest grocery shopping is a little bit of a drive back down the mountain. Easy access to mountain activities as well as a reasonable drive back into Denver for city life activities. Kudos to the staff for taking time to rescue the hummingbird trapped in their building. read more

Honestly the absolute worst experience I've ever had. Negative stars. Before I go into what happened, here's some background information of how this all went down: so we went to this KOA, but they didn't have any spots. We were going to stay at a hotel in Glenwood Springs that night anyway, so they said we could pay a fee for overflow parking and keep there over night. We had another hook up spot reserved and paid for for the following two nights. We told the office that we would not be returning to the park until late the next night, after hours, they said it was fine, we could just check in when we got there, it was reserved for us, no worries. When we got there, we drove up without the rig just to see where the site was, and we found another RV hooked up and parked in our spot. We politely knocked on their door to ask, and they said they were sold the spot and had payed for it. Okay, not the people's fault, but crap, now we have nowhere to go, because the rest of the park is full. So we walk to the office and see an emergency number for the manager. We call to tell him what happened, assuming it was just a mistake, and he very rudely replies "um no. You left this morning! Turned it your ticket and walked out. We have you on camera, you left your rig in an unauthorized spot". First of all, what ticket? We were never given a "ticket". Also, it was literally impossible for us to be "on camera" because we were in Montrose(6 hours away!) all day. I'd surely like to see myself in two places at once! Also, it wasn't unauthorized, they said we could leave it on overflow until the following night. After we tried explaining that couldn't be us, he rudely interrupted multiple times saying "WILL YOU LET ME TALK" just for him to say he sold our spot and said "if we didn't like it we could get the h*ll out." Then he texts my cell phone and says "if you don't leave this property I'm calling the police". So my dad called, and tried yet again to explain the situation, and that our battery was dead and we were trying to jump it. He said he would have us arrested "like he did the last guy". Yeah, right. So he asks "so what do you want to do?" My dad said well, we are trying to get the battery going, but we have nowhere to go. The manger replies "no I mean should I call the police or are you going to get the f*ck out" so we got our battery working and left. What kind of person kicks a family out at 11:30 at night? We had to stay in a parking lot because we couldn't do anything else. Not the kind of person I want running a campsite or handling any kind of "customer service," if you can even call it that. NEVER stay here. EVER. The KOA franchise will be getting a call. We've been KOA members for years, and usually love them, but this park does not represent the franchise at all. read more

Spent 1 night on 6/19/15 and experienced a very large group camping next to us that kept their fire burning and drinking heavily way past the 10pm quiet time to 3am. Unfortunately, there was no manager or employee on site so I was forced to call the local police department to get assistance. The officer approached the group at around 2 am but the group started up again as soon as the officer was off property. the group finally drank themselves out a little after 3am but took us(family of 5) until 4am or so to go to sleep. The sun was up by 6am so we got about 2 hrs sleep all night. I spoke to the office in the am and was referred to Chuck, the owner, when I asked for my money back. Since this is not Chuck's full time job, it took him 4 hours to get back to me and refused any refund(his exact words were "not going to happen"). We spent $43 for a 1 night tent site which is one of the higher in the Denver area. The staff was confused on our original reservation when we checked in and sent us to a site that was already occupied. I have stayed at a lot of RV/tent campgrounds and this is definitely the worst. The amenities are nothing special so don't let that sway you at all. read more
