New management just took over and disappointed in the changes they have made. It's a beautiful site and great location but the one star is due to management. They will not let you will up your RV with water although it says you can on their website. Make sure you fill up before getting to the campsite. Very frustrating to pull the extra weight. read more

Beautiful campground. Spacious sites with amazing views of forest trees, mountains, and the lake. We were in Loop E, and we loved our site. Roomy enough for our RV, car, screen tent, chairs, etc. No hookups, but we enjoy dry camping, too, so it didn't matter. Loop C sites have electricity and water, but I believe you need to reserve those far in advance to get a chance to get one. Our site offered privacy, also, which was quite nice after visiting many campgrounds with sites right on top of each other. The only downside is that you can hear the highway noise. A bike trail runs through the campground which you can take around the lake and into Breckinridge if you want. Even with the traffic noise, I still will give this campground 5 stars. read more

I wasn't sure what to expect this year with the pandemic. The hosts are nice and most campers too. The facilities are cleaned 2 times a day and they are always around if you need help. My only issue is that the electric sites book so fast . There is only one electric loop and 4 others some are tent only. We will be back as it is close to home and still far enough away to get out of heat read more

What a beautiful campground last minute planning & D51 which was a double tent site max 10 is what was available Yey for us!! Couldn't of asked for a better site. However for us 3 it was big but I highly recommend for bringing your family. We arrived late at night however the easy access made it easy for us to set up. Camp host came in the morning very pleasant. Didn't spend much time here as we where venturing out but it was lovely being there. Direct access to the bay short short walk. Hubby didn't have much luck fishing but we had a great relaxing time, towns is minutes away and easy access to everything. Frisco is a beautiful town. read more

Perfect for our impromptu getaway to Colorado! We stayed in a tents only loop. Loved how spacious and far apart the lots are. Great views on every lot. Staff was super friendly. Bathrooms are the cleanest I've ever seen in a campground. Loved that we could walk or bike into Frisco and other neighboring towns from the campground. Will definitely be back!! read more

Heaton Bay is conveniently located. The camp sites and restrooms are well maintained. The view of the lake is great. It was heavily visited during Labor Day weekend. I would like to visit again when there are less people. read more

Do not recommend this campground if you are looking for a relaxing or quiet experience. I-70 is very close and is loud - it sounds like having a highway in your backyard. Campsites are small with little privacy. For hours a day multiple children were running through the tent sites yelling and throwing rocks. Stay somewhere else. read more

Nestled along the Dillon Reservoir, the campsites are surrounded around secluded lakes and mountains. For prime campsites along the water, reserve a couple months in advance. For a $13 fee, you have a parking spot for 2 vehicles, a fire pit and a picnic table. There are also areas to pitch a tent or two, but most of visitors at this campground are either car campers or have RV's. There is also a campground host on site for any questions. Bathrooms and drinking water are also available every 3rd or 4th campsite. The campground can be pretty strict about keeping your dog on a leash, but in my opinion as long as your dog is well behaved and under voice command, you shouldn't have a problem. The campground is less than a mile from a grocery store (and a Starbucks) so its a nice spot for some quick R & R but if you're looking for more seclusion and a more rugged camping experience then you might want to venture elsewhere. read more

Loved that is has so many pine trees that even though you fairly close to the next guy, you had a beautiful barrier of trees between you. The trees didn't provide shade, just privacy. Nicely kept grounds and vault toilets. read more

Stayed for 3 nights. I chose one of the absolute best sites which was further away from other sites and really close to the lake. On the recreation website, it says theres bear boxes at this campground but then there wasn't when we arrived so it was a little inconvenient to have to carry all the food back and forth to the car. This campground has really nice scenery and I like the fact its right next to a big lake but I didn't realize just how close it actually was to town. There was a lot of planes that flew above this campground so that was odd to me but I guess it's the fact we are right next to town. Also with hiking trails that are at least 10 minutes or so away from the campground, they were still in town and there were cars, noises, and constriction next to every trail we tried to hike so that felt off... This campground wasn't a horrible stay but I'm not sure if I would stay again because of these things. If you're wanting a quiet stay, I wouldn't really recommend this campground. I've been camping at Heaton Bay several times, before, during and now after, the period of four years that I lived in Colorado. This is my favorite place to camp when looking to spend time in the Dillon/Silverthorn/Frisco/Breck area. The campground is right on the shores of the Dillon reservoir, mere miles from Dillon center and the harbor, and offers spectacular views. It also helps that the bikepath that runs from Dillon to Breckenridge goes right through he campground, offering a quick way to get in town via bike. Heaton Bay is an inexpensive way to stay in the area and take in the magestic view of the reservoir and mountains. Just be aware of the storms that can roll through this area in the afternoon and evenings. read more

Never been to this area, spots are small and stuffed together, signage is poor. We had to go to the camp host in C loop to get the facts of the area. Older couple, there were bars on the door and the lady appeared to be in fear for life. Husband not much better was gruff and not polite. Told a gentleman looking for a single night the park was full. Not true, there were two spots around us empty. My rating is strictly based on the camp host experience. We pulled in to Heaton Bay Campground in the evening. It was a long travel day. We were happy for the weather to cool off and enjoy the quiet. Beautiful lake and nice campground. Everything was clean. I don't have much to say about this place. We were there for 12 hours. It was easy to park the motorhome. We stayed in the dry camping. read more

Looks like this needs an updated review. We have camped here every summer since 2003. Due to the pine beetle infestation the campground has lost hundreds of trees. Over the years new trees have been planted and are just now growing into "real" trees. Location, cleanliness, and organization make this a great place to stay in the summer. If you plan ahead spaces are available. Show up in the middle of the night on a weekend and you might have to go to Denver! Roads and spaces are paved which makes for a cleaner campsite since it rains quite a bit throughout most of the summer; Colorado rain most of the time...short rain storms followed by sun! Bathrooms are concrete floored outhouses...best smelling outhouses I've ever used! Somehow they keep them clean, smelling nice, and well stocked with essentials! If you get lucky and need electrical hookups there are several sites in one of the loops with electric/water.. This is Colorado at 9,000 feet, open windows during the day, blankets at night. We stay 10-14 days in a travel trailer with no hookups. Works well for us. Rates this summer were $21 for regular sites; $26 for hookups. Finally, you are in the middle of ski country with plenty of trails and activities to keep you busy and active. The best of both worlds, woods/camping and city amenities, is within reach.
