It's hard finding free meeting spaces for community groups that are open after hours (however, it does mean that it's not open during the day as it's used by a U3A). There are a number of smaller meeting rooms downstairs and a much larger space upstairs (with lift access) that can fit 70+ people. There's also a large kitchen space that can be used for meetings as well. Be aware that this means there are usually two or three different groups meeting there at any one time so you may want to have someone at the door to help guide people to the right room. For an inner-city venue, there's plenty of on-street parking. The Coopers Ale House is 2 minute stroll down the road if you need a bite to eat or a more casual venue for after-meeting drinks. Just like the other Adelaide City Council community centres, there's free Wi-Fi but be aware that it can be a little flaky in the back rooms. Jess and the team that work there are fantastic and very accommodating. They have a projector, whiteboards and markers available on request. It's worth making your bookings well in advance as it's popular and there are some groups that meet regularly there. If you're stuck for a venue or want something to yourself, you can try the Southwest community centre that can be open after-hours on negotiation.

Although recently I have had no choice and I must say it's not as bad as I remember it. This office is quite small but is conveniently located within the shopping centre, but also near an entrance, so easy to get to. They have great opening hours - much better than most government agencies. I usually only go here when I need to make a claim as it is so easy. You just go in with your receipt and medicare card and they give you the cash back straight away. I have never had to wait more than about 5 or 10 minutes, which I thought was pretty good. And to think I used to fill out forms and post them off and then wait weeks to get a cheque back and then go to the bank to deposit it and wait 3 days for it to clear when it was this easy all along to do at their office. I also realised last time I was in there that they have a Family Assistance Office in here as well. From the small yet adequate toy library to the public access computers and then the self check out system, this really is a nice, local place to be. The staff have always been friendly and go out of their way to help you. The library is always clean, presentable and respected. The library, as many other Onkaparinga City Council Libraries have many children's activities that really engage young minds and help get even the smallest bodies and brains excited about books. The City Council also has a brilliant online system that allows you to find a book throughout any of their libraries and it can be delivered to the branch of your choice. I wish it was bigger! :-)

On Fridays the Snr Cits can get sweaty in a weekly exercise session at the centre. The building itself was built in 1964 on council land. It sounds like the establishment and growth of the centre over the years has been a real community effort with organisations like Lions, Apex and Rotary donating time, effort and materials to keep the centre operating. New members are welcome and the Centre can be hired for meetings but NOT for parties. They must have had some bad experiences with parties in the past because their sign saying that the building can be hired has the words 'hire for social events' crossed out!
