Ventured into this library to kill some time while my car was worked on nearby. Location is…read moremulti-leveled with a beautiful sky window covering the atrium. Upon entering I was met with lots of noise. So much noise that I thought I was in a day care center. I quickly learned that they have story time for children every Tuesday and Thursday and hence the racket. I feel so old and crouched writing this was but the noise was crazy loud for a library. On the first floor there is a playroom and a large kids collection. I went up to the second floor to see if any quieter. It was much more chill on this level. Lots of computer spaces and large desk areas for group work. I found a corner seat off to the side which was perfect for some light reading and busy work. I was able to use the free WiFi with the assistance of my VPN for added protection. Overall this library turned out okay. By the time my car was ready, I was hungry and eager to leave. Free smells of Small Cheval crowd your nose and tempt you into $12 burger. lol Which is also where you can find some free off street parking. Facility has lots of security and bathrooms. Library workers did not interact with me, nor did they try to calm the chaos of the daycare noise situation. If needing to stay warm while my car was being fix, would come back again but activity level here made it difficult to get any real work done.

The upper floors and atrium are especially worth checking out. One of my favorite parts was wandering through the different levels and seeing how much the library has to offer. It feels welcoming and well-maintained, and it's easy to spend more time there than you originally planned. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is that some areas can get fairly busy, and unless you're specifically looking to read or work, there isn't a ton to do beyond admiring the space. Overall: 4 stars. A beautiful public library that's worth visiting for its architecture, peaceful atmosphere, and as a quiet escape in the middle of downtown Chicago.

The architecture alone, puts this CPL Branch way behind updated libraries nearby, namely Bucktown/WP and Logan Square. That said, this library has great programming for kids and the local Puerto Rican community, and that should be commended. A local library, afterall, should focus on the community at large. The DVD (and VHS) selection is tiny, but also caters to the neighborhood by offering at least half of the selections in Spanish. Not much book or DVD selection here, so use the CPL website to reserve an item for pickup here. The Free Wi-Fi close to my house is the main selling point to this branch. The librarians and security guard here are incredibly helpful and polite. There is a parking lot in the rear. Check posted hours, as they are limited- MON and WED they are open until 8pm. This CPL Branch really deserves a makeover for the commitment to the community it serves.

They also have a lot of test prep materials for entrance exams. You'll have to be a UIC student to come in after 5pm.

There was a very strong odor throughout the space, and most tables were occupied by individuals who appeared to be using the library as a place to sleep rather than study or read. I understand that libraries are public spaces and that unhoused individuals need safe places to go. That said, the current conditions made it very difficult for other patrons to use the library for its intended purpose. If the library is going to function as a daytime shelter, there needs to be better attention to cleanliness, ventilation, and overall maintenance so the space remains usable for everyone.

I do notice that there are quite a few vagrants here just sitting at the tables although they are not bothering anyone, I just question how safe is that with so many kids here. Went to the rest room and there was a guy obviously bird bathing himself and that kind of disturbed me. Well as far as libraries go it's not bad at all just the little problem of grown men all over just "hanging out" and obviously vagrants telling by the garbage bags some of them have. I don't like to generalize but when I joined YELP I said I would not hold anything back and had to be true to everyone. Now they do have classes for kids and adults here but of course you have to register. Have fun at this location, just be careful with your bags.

I go here so once in a while I will just stop in and go not the laptop while doing research for a class or two. The libraries hours will change every season but you really have to be on it. I like the fact that Sundays they stay open until 9pm because for someone like me who works, having this time to research is really a good thing. They are wheelchair accessible and offer a variety of different rooms to study in, or tables that have electrical outlets in the middle of the tables if you need to charge at any time. Restrooms are also quite available on each floor so for your convenience, you can stay on the floor you are studying on in case you have to "go". There is also a lab here so take advantage that you can get tutors and information here to make sure you get the best grades possible. Wi-fi is available so make sure you take advantage of this wonderful place.

The inside of the library makes you feel like you traveled back to the 90's. The carpet is ancient, rusty, and beige. The dust covered book shelves make you wonder if people actually check out the books here. However, this places gets the job done. A lot of visitors don't even go to NEIU, including myself. You'll find students from UIC, Depaul, and creepy old people. If you have an admission exam that you're are studying for, set up camp here for a few months, score high, and then move on with your life. The library has 4 spacious floors plus a basement, cubicles for those who are seriously trying to concentrate, shared tables, public computers, and best of all they don't seem to mind if you bring food. There's also a cafe on the first floor in case you need some caffeine! All jokes aside, this place is a valuable resource and we're very fortunate that NEIU opened it up to the community.

Original amazing art work, fabulous…read moreshelving, real wood tables, and awesome displays.This is the library for the Art Institute of Chicago so I should have expected greatness. The staff was lovely to chat with and my touring companion (who had been to the museum beacoup times but never thought to enter the library) was amused by my insistence and impressed by the library...or he was humoring me, either way. I did find out that the art is considered part of the library so is not changed out, but is occasionally loaned. Visitors to the museum are welcome to view the library during specific hours (http://www.artic.edu/research); we entered the library when we weren't supposed to but since they were open for appointment hours, so we were allowed to wander. I may have poked my head in the back to see what the technical services area looked like...and as I suspected, utilitarian. I loved walking through hear and since it will only take you a moment, I suggest you do the same.
