I decided to come back in the evening the next day. The waitress recognized me immediately, and made sure I was well attended. People flowed in, a thunderstorm struck, and the waitress jokingly thanked me for bringing so many people when I visit. It was a really good time. Leka was our server. The restaurant was casual but was still quiet and somewhat reserved. There were a handful of families and some small children; no one felt out of place. The food was unbelievable! The pizza was perfect and all of us enjoyed the well balanced flavors. One of the waiters warned me the Piccante was spicy, but I found it mild with just a little kick. Every dish was delicious and we left feeling quite full. After a long day of walking and enjoying time by the river, this was a perfect spot for sitting down and filling up. The selection of classic Swiss dishes impresses. The rehschnitzel AKA venison escalope with cream sauce, cowberry, red cabbage dressed with chestnuts and apples and butterspaetzli, solid. Tender pieces of perfectly cooked venison tenderloin enrobed in a rich cream sauce (venison demi and rich heavy cream). The pronounced gamey notes are well matched by the tart red cabbage. Chestnuts add the Autumn flavors and a baked apple filled with tangy cowberry compote to round out the dish. The only weak spot, the butter fried spaetzili. Gummy and rubbery. Totally unnecessary with a nutty, burnt butter flavor that didn't belong. Friendly, touristy service. English spoken with English and Chinese menus. Very limited wine list but still featuring a few wines of Luzern. It just goes to show, you can't suppress a chef's desire to make the food of his home well.
