Three purchases and I think it's about time I gave a review for Derbyshire... When we started searching for furniture for our new house a few years ago Derbyshire popped up on just about every list I checked and had plenty of great reviews. Now that we've made a few of our own purchases I totally understand the praise this small business gets. The shop is small but mighty and packed with so many good pieces. If your style leans traditional - they've got it. If your style leans more contemporary/modern - they've got it. Plus a few things in between that could go in either direction and work with just about any style or decor. Everything is solid wood and totally customizable. You can pick your stain or paint plus your hardware (should you order something with hardware, of course). The couple that owns the shop have always been very kind and very patient, answering all the questions... especially when I was coming in every other week for too many weeks to look at dressers before I finally made up my mind. Lead time was accurate, delivery days/times were accommodating and the guys that arrived to place our items were totally courteous. For our last order/delivery the guys didn't leave until they leveled our dressers perfectly. I didn't even have to ask.. they just did it and that's how a good delivery and install team should operate. Truly, I only have good things to say about Derbyshire. Next piece of wood furniture that we need I will definitely be stopping in Derbyshire first to check things out. read more

Recently went there looking for a wood desk. Left with a large, maginficent solid wood coffee table, bistro table with 2 matching chairs and a small table with a drawer. Everything was so well made and finished we couldn't resist. The prices were most reasonable and I can't say enough about the solid quality. The owners were most helpful and delightful as were their other employees. We will be going back again soon for that desk. read more

After weeks of searching locally and online nationally for an outdoor picnic table set without success, my husband happened to notice Derbyshire's Solid Wood Furniture store on Route 23 south in Wayne. Doubtful but hopeful, a phone call to the store confirmed that they could solve my problem. Visiting the shop the following day was quite a surprise. My sought-after picnic table wasn't on the floor but the lovely saleswoman quickly showed me what the store could order - just what I had in mind. My purchase will arrive, fully assembled and delivered to its residential destination, in time for enjoyment this summer. Derbyshire's provides the kind of customer service that everyone complains you just can't get anymore. Why this store isn't packed on a daily basis is honestly beyond me! I went there about a half hour before closing and the owner, who has been in the store every time I go there, was kind enough to chat with me about furniture without ever rushing me. I went back again about half hour before closing a week later on a Friday with my husband to show him what I liked. Again, the owner and his employees were patient and kind and never rushed us. We stayed long past closing to purchase furniture and just chat with the owner who chatted with us happily about furniture and his other passion. The furniture was delivered today, and the delivery men were true pros! They were able to move large furniture around a tricky, tight area with ease. Honestly, we had narrowed down our choices to Derbyshire's and Pottery Barn, but Derbyshire's prices and quality (real wood) far surpassed what we could get at Pottery Barn. I also try to buy American-made products when possible and Derbyshire's furniture was made in the US. It was not our first time at Derbyshire's and it won't be our last! They have lots of books from which you can order if you don't see what you want. Buy furniture there. You won't be disappointed! read more

One of the last stores still in business to offer quality and unique furniture at affordable prices. Family owned and operated for 3 generations! I bought a teak dresser. Agreed to deliver price because the man who sold it to me said it is very heavy. The delivery was 400 dollars. I assumed (silly me), this was gas, tolls, truck(makes it more expensive). The dresser was delivered from the back of a car. Sorry, I call foul. That is a blatant rip off. Will never buy from them again. No one should pay that for delivery. Will be contacting BBB, this sounds exorbitant. Lesson learned! Old man who works there needs to get a Lesson about pricing and fairness. read more

We ordered our furniture set this summer for our new home and we absolutely love it. We bought the Alden set. Not only is it sturdy but it is stunning. Everyone compliments these pieces in our home. Derbyshire's has been a Wayne staple for decades and is a great local small business. They carry basically any piece of solid wood furniture imaginable and if they don't have it in the store, they can order it! Their furniture is really great quality, no harmful particle board and many pieces are USA made! They're also really helpful if you want to finish something yourself and have all the products you need. read more

We have bought several pieces from Derbyshire's and have been thrilled with all of them. We have always been impressed with the quality of their furniture, the vast selection and variety of price points. The latest piece we ordered was a custom built entryway wall unit to house our coats, shoes and other items. Mary was a gem to work with and ensured that the unit was built to our specifications. She also helped us with specific design decisions regarding stain, wood and other details. We are so impressed with how impeccably the piece came out - it is truly beautiful and so well crafted. This place gets better every time I go there. They still have 100% wood but now they have really cool reclaimed and Industrial stuff too, kind of like fixer-upper! Most of the furniture is shown finished but you can still get unfinished if you want. They seem to do most of the finishing so you can get your stuff done pretty much any color if you don't want to DIY. The prices are really good for solid wood and the same family still runs the business too, I think since the 1940's. read more

I wanted to love this place. We purchased our kitchen table about a year ago and have been extremely disappointed with the quality. After 3 months it was showing several scratches and now a year later (with barely any use...we have eaten at it less than 10 times) it looks terrible. For the amount of money we spent I was really hoping for something more durable. I could have bought something for a fraction of the price that would have held up better.
