The young lady behind the counter, a budding Goth I believe, was so obliging, friendly and smiley. Shows, never judge a book by its cover. She had us sorted in no time with a free city map with all the attractions she had circled. Yes, I said free. Elsewhere we had paid £1.50 for a similar map but I won't say where except it was a map of Oxford LOL. Derry Information Office you have done your wonderful city, PROUD. Thank you.

Forget your Kerrys and Connemaras, when it comes to wild, rugged beauty, you cannot beat Donegal. Not only that the people here are so incredibly nice. Not least the owner of the Cois Farraige/Cois Daire cottages in Rathmullan. Siobhan was fantastic to deal with and both cottages were very reasonably priced, given how well they are kitted out. There were large flat screen tvs, good quality coffee machines and all of the rest mod cons. Siobhan has left lots of great material to work out the best activities to do here. Hiking is recommended and the stunning Glenveigh national park is nearby. High quality restaurants are within waking distance (Rathmullan house) and the pristine beach is yards away. Go off the beaten track, rain or shine, and treat yourself to a little piece of heaven in Donegal. (PS if you get the chance try to visit Tramore beach hidden away in Dunfanaghy. The most beautiful beach I have ever seen).

Our room was air conditioned ( not all in Ireland are) and we were served well by the bartender in the evening and for breakfast. They had a nice selection of breakfast options including salmon and scrambled eggs. Good coffee, fine linens, overall a place I would return to.

The Shipquay is located in a gorgeous Italianate-style-listed heritage building that comprises a wealth of magnificent boutique hotel rooms. Our Superior Double Room had a beautiful and comfortable king-sized bed that was stylish and sophisticated. We enjoyed the amenities, such as the walk-in shower and the castiron tub that my wife and I loved immensely. They had complimentary WiFi and robes and slippers for us to wear in the morning and at night that was quite comfortable. The restaurant on the lobby floor provided us with delicious eats for breakfast and dinner, with refreshing and tasty cocktails, all in a stylish and contemporary interior that was our speed. The hotel is close to everything for site seeing and visiting attractions. There are tons of restaurants and bars within walking distance to enjoy. And if you want to stay indoors for the night, you have the restaurant and bar or speakeasy that's on-site. There are shopping centers everywhere, including one next store if you need to pick up some clothes, souvenirs, or just want to take a gander through. Overall, this is the place to stay when in Derry, and we will do so again upon our next one.

The room was fine. The only irritation was the wait to be seated and nobody to be found around at breakfast - the breakfast was quite good but their porridge is close to the worst I've ever eaten. Breakfast machine coffee is poor but that's common enough. Check out was as easy as check in. We are happy to return and happy to stay longer next time. We had checked in advance on EV charging here as this was the first time I used my electric car on a long run around Ireland. It promises over 300 miles and delivered on the promise. The hotel has a few EV chargers and it worked very well. It was £1.85 standing charge just to use the unit and around 60 pence a kilowatt hour.

It was a wet, damp, and windy weekend and there were very few people on the site. It was late on Friday evening when we arrived and were welcomed by the owner who kindly placed us just beside all the site facilities. Our purpose in going to Donegal was to attend a singing festival weekend in nearby Ballyliffin. On Sat morning, the site displayed its beautiful stunning surroundings. If you like to walk, cycle, climb hills, view beaches, then this is a site you cannot miss. The friendly owner will give a total overview of the area, detailing walks, festivals, history, restaurants and anything else you will want to know. He sat with us for half an hour just to impart tourist information that he thought we might benefit from. The site facilities were very clean and tidy with free electric showers, soap and hand wash in the bathrooms. The owner had also left a supply of books available for anyone to read during their stay. Nice thought. But he really came into his own when it was time for us to go home and we found that our car electrics had a fault and would not work our caravan lights, indicators etc. When he saw us with trouble, he took his own jeep to test our caravan lights and identified that our car was the difficulty. As it was Sunday, it was not possible to repair and we had to return home for work the next day. The owner took our caravan on his jeep, parked it at his own house and we went home, repaired our car and collected the caravan some days later. All our worries were eradicated by the owners kindness. When I collected my caravan, i tried to financially reward his for his kindness but he totally refused to accept anything and said, "maybe you will come back again sometime". I sure will. I cant say enough about my stay there. These are the ones that you will remember. Keep it up Binion Bay, a gem of a weekend probably made better by kindness of the site owner.

There was a large crowd when we turned up for our second experience. The man taking the tour was the same one on our first a few years ago. This was a traumatised city and it was this way I guess 40 years. On our 2nd tour it again struck me how he tells the truth of the horror without any rancour or bitterness - he lived in it and through it. Next time we visit this most friendly of cities we'll certainly do this tour again.
