A bronze portrait sculpture and reliefs depicting Dr. McNair's life by artist Ogundipe Fayomi[2] are installed on a red marble obelisk at the center of the park. The park was originally named after Brooklyn borough President Joseph Guider. In fact, there is a sculpture at the South side of the park remembering him. The park was named after Dr. McNair in 1986, the same year as the Challenger disaster. Towards the North side of the park there are benches and tables, and there are benches along the side of the park. The very south tip is actually fully enclosed by a fence, which is helpful if you are bringing a dog here, or a toddler who likes to run around. Or if you want to play the trumpet[3]. What I really like is the magnolia and cherry trees in this park. During COVID, when the Brooklyn Botanic Garden across the street was closed, the trees in McNair Park were the closest thing to the cherry blossom blooming festival/Sakura Matsuri you could get in Brooklyn. During the time they were in blossom in the spring of 2020, the cherry trees and magnolia trees at McNair Park provided a reminder that, in stressful times, you can still find beauty, peace, and an opportunity to just relax, albeit temporarily, next to home. ------------------ [1] Guion S. Today, I noticed there was a statue of General Jose Artigas that is the centerpiece of this "park." According to a quick google search, he is regarded as a national hero in Uruguay and the father of Uruguayan nationhood. Why does his statue stand here? I have absolutely no idea, but similar to Napoleon and Alexander the Great, it looks like he was a soldier who led from the front and I have so much respect for that. I brought my 2 year old and I had to be with her at all times. She kept running around the sprinklers and the mini bridges in the sprinkler section were drenched with 2 to 3 feet water! It is like a mini water park! Just the bad thing about it is the crowd. Too many kids running around all over the place. I don't really like the brick steps they make for the bridges. They are very tiny and made out of bricks. Not good for 2 year olds or little toddlers. It is not that safe! This park is very big and has different children parks. Besides the brick tower and sprinklers, they got the sand area with slides that no one goes on because the slides are scorching hot! The slides in the sand area go very fast! I went on with my daughter and we both went zooming down like a rocket. We always ended up going so fast that is somewhat dangerous because we always ended up on the sand instead of the end of the slide! So scary and fun! The sand is very annoying too but then they have a lot of sprinklers with half a feet of water for us to wash the sand off! This is such a fun, big park for toddlers and children. They got many swings too! But my daughter did not like the swings though, probably because she is too young! Restrooms are very crowded especially when it comes to the women's restroom! There is always a line and it sucks so bad when you need to go really badly!

Bronze portrait statue depicting early New York Mayor Abraham De Peyster (1657-1728) on pedestal; Triumph of the Human Spirit, a circular basin water fountain in black Canadian granite; and Foley Square Medallions containing five medallions embedded at different locations in the walkways. At first glance, I thought and hoped, there was the portrait statue of Thomas Paine since this park is named and dedicated in his honor but to no avail. It sits across the street from federal Thurgood Marshall United States Courthouse at 40 Foley Square, New York, NY where federal workers and nearby civic city workers break for lunch. Temperatures topped 100 degrees the other day. The weather forecast predicted a rainstorm today but they didn't know exactly when. It rained yesterday during the TS/TK big wedding at MSG. But not today. This was a beautiful July 4th to spend in the park. It was clear all day which is why I bypass weather forecasts and check the radar map instead. Sail 4th 250 had their Parade of Sail on the Hudson River. I enjoyed watching the flotilla of tall ships sail up the river. If you missed it, no worries. There are several great YouTube videos of the ship parade. Also, it's not over yet. The tour continues to Boston after leaving NY. Rockefeller Park has a nice promenade where you can jog or sit down to relax. There's also a large open lawn with shaded areas for picnics. Very relaxed atmosphere.

I pass this way when I walk. I always see something new. When you visit Central Park go to Cedar Hill. Climb up and then run down as fast as you can. That's the freedom of Central Park Cedar Hill!
