Sunset Park is small when compared to larger parks in the New York City like Central Park, but it remains a local neighborhood gem to me. If you have dog living near the park is a great way to get some exercise with a your four-legged friend. Or a great place to take a walk at lunch if you work remotely. in pre-pandemic times that was a great place to go swimming too. The views are wonderful. I am moving and this is one of the things that I will miss most about the my hood. Props to the Park Dept.

Pass through the park, and you'll find an elevated bridge that winds down through lush trees to the East River. The skyline comes into view between apartment buildings and It's a beautiful sight. The wide walkway drops you off at Brooklyn Bridge park. Head North along the water and you'll see all the good stuff on the way to the Manhattan bridge. Much better than the subway.

There's a beautiful bridge that connects to Dumbo and the piers below. Not sure if this is technically part of the park - but the walkway and landscaped parks below Squibb Park are the real highlight of this area. There's also a public restroom here, and across the street is Hillside Dog Park (one of Brooklyn's largest dog parks) along with a playground for kids.

This land is integrated to Foley Square. This park is adjacent to surrounding parks: Columbus Park, Collect Pond Park and to the south City Hall Park. There are several monuments art installations worthy of viewing. Bronze portrait statue depicting early New York Mayor Abraham De Peyster (1657-1728) on pedestal; Triumph of the Human Spirit, a circular basin water fountain in black Canadian granite; and Foley Square Medallions containing five medallions embedded at different locations in the walkways. At first glance, I thought and hoped, there was the portrait statue of Thomas Paine since this park is named and dedicated in his honor but to no avail. It sits across the street from federal Thurgood Marshall United States Courthouse at 40 Foley Square, New York, NY where federal workers and nearby civic city workers break for lunch. It contains abundant trees for shade. This park enable me to achieve a phlegmatic disposition moment in the passage of my professional duties. I was watching fools to either get married, obtaining another certified copy of marriage license (the original marriage license went into the void), waiting to return listening to one's name to be called for jury duty, responding to the judge in New York Housing Court, NYS Court employees stride for lunch break, New York State Court Officers stride Civic Center with a high functioning air of arrogance, and waiting to be interrogated in nearby New York County Criminal Court 100 Centre Street. It still was a nice place to simply stop and take a breather. It also seemed pretty safe given the large amount of law enforcement that is present due to the numerous courthouses. Over the years, the Park has gotten an impressive updo with a bike and running path- which was monumental for the area. It's an all-round park...may not be Central Park... but it does just fine here. As a rule of thumb, Soundview Park is accessible by getting off the very last exit of the Bronx River Pkwy. Entrances are pretty much endless: Lafayette, Colgate, Morrison Avenues and many others. However, you can also hit up Soundview Park from another angle if you're in the Clason Point area- another nearby section close to Soundview. You got your designated area for picnics, general grass area for sports including a large Baseball Field. A few Handball courts closer to the Metcalf Ave entrance, further in, a Tennis court and a Children's park. Soundview Park isn't elevated, but you could still get a quick peak of NYC's tippy top skyline on a real clear day. Even further, a Bike and Trail Path- feet away from the Bronx River. I'd run a few laps at 5am- alone when I used to live here and people would advise me to be "careful"- "especially in Soundview". But even running at the crack of dawn by myself- was all good. And besides, living in The Bronx as a kid, kind of made you develop a thick skin. Believe it or not, I'm actually more uptight running a few laps at a park close to home in White Plains- and fearful of coming across a coyote, raccoon or a freaking skunk- than exercising in my old stomping grounds! Soundview Park means a lot to the folks in this area plus those who come to visit. People here, just get a real dose to enjoy Nature.

You're basically in front of Hunts Point. Surprisingly, the park and its paths are beautifully maintained. It's a massive green space that you'll probably enjoy all to yourself. We crossed only a handful of people (on a Saturday morning) all the way to its northwestern end, where we took Colgate Avenue across the South Bronx. A pleasant walk.

It honors the hospital and staff which performed heroic work at the height of the AIDs epidemic at this facility which was close by. It served the area for more than 150 years and had quite the history from it's start back in 1849 until it's closure in 2010. The park is well maintained with plenty of shade trees and benches throughout.

For a small park in a busy area it feels safe and clean. There's also an AIDS memorial. Among the features is the fountain. It's a popular spot in the summer. The other main structure is the AIDS Memorial. It's dedicated to the victims of the disease. The park was the site of the hospital that played an important part in fighting and learning about it. A few parts of the hospital are still here. The oldest part was turned into apartments, while a newer part is a non emergency care location. If you're around Washington Square Park you should also make your way here. It's a nice park but it's also very meaningful. There's a few cafes and restaurants close to here too.

I learned that this waterfront space was once the site of a radio tower. Because it was early morning, the park was quiet and empty. A few people were walking their dogs on the pier, which overlooks the Manhattan skyline. What caught my eye even more than the city waking up, however, was the large mural against a red brick wall. It shows a woman lying down, plucking dandelion petals. It was whimsical, especially once I noticed the frog beside her. I appreciated discovering this small pocket of the city and enjoyed the moment of peace before my day kicked into high gear.

Children playing, and owners walking dogs. If you look close this time of year you will spot squirrels scampering about. Birds of many species are available to the avid bird watchers. There are paths to follow and rocks to climb. I carry my little map. You don't want to take a wrong turn and get lost in the park. While you're exploring visit the North Meadow. Or maybe not! I'll have the peace and quiet to myself. There's plenty of benches to sit on while I Day Dream.
