Ordered 8 flies for overnight delivery which was available on their website. They were sent out regular US Mail which was not overnight. Called the shop, they saw the error and said they would ship out identical order overnight air. Checked two days later, and the second order, like the first, was not shipped out next day air. Spoke to the owner on the phone who said their website can't do next day air, which is strange as that is how I selected, and paid $45 for it. She then said he employee was at fault for the second order. She also then questioned why I was ordering flies 5 days before my trip, as if that matters. Avoid at all costs. Literally this was one of the best fishing experiences I have had in my life. I quickly lost count of how many fish we landed. He kept me on large trout all day, taught me knew techniques, and provided excellent feedback throughout the trip. I recommend their guiding service to anyone coming to the area. I've come to this shop every time I come to maupin to fish. A great place for fly tying materials, flies and gear. But this review is really for an experience I had this past Memorial Day weekend. I had been fishing in the morning, and ended up breaking my rod on a tangled fish. I had an hour before I needed to get on a boat for an overnight fishing trip and I was desperate. I took my broken rod to Deschutes Angler and asked what my options were. They were great. Super empathetic and helpful. They ended up providing me with a new section to my rod so I could still go on my fishing trip and they would send the broken piece to be fixed on my behalf. Within 15 min I was out the door and on my way to a great fishing trip. Love this place. read more

The Deschutes Angler river report is the gospel concerning the condition of the river. They go way above and beyond to let us know what the hatch is, what the river level is, and and how the White River is effecting the clarity of the big D. Support your local fly shop! We love these guys (and Amy)! Always super helpful with fishing reports, tips and tricks. They all fish, all the time and they know the Deschutes like the back of their hands. We've floated with them, purchased gear and just stopped in to chat. They always remember us by name and give us a warm welcome. They take real pride in serving their clients and it shows. They are more interested in building a relationship with you than making a fast buck. My friend Jeff and I decided to take a quick trip down to Maupin and try our hand at some fly fishing. I had some experience growing up and Jeff had zero experience. Our gear was garbage and I was hesitant to bring into the shop. However, Amy (the owner) was frickin' amazing she did not treat us like the idiots we knew we were...instead she got us completely setup for around $30 and didn't upsell us at all. This shop is the reason to support local business as opposed to buying your gear online. You are going to pay a little more but you are also going to get a better product. You are also going to get amazing customer service free of cost (I was hoping there was line on the receipt for a tip) but we will definitely be back. Amy literally took an hour or so to educate us, point out a few sweet fishing holes and run us through some other gear. SHE and the DRA are awesome. We will most likely get back to take a few intro classes and we'll be bringing our friends with us! read more
