Let me start off by saying I REALLY hate writing bad reviews. I understand businesses are a means to a livelihood and bad reviews can be harmful. However, because of the way Sara treated us (especially after the wedding), I cannot help but feel hurt when looking at the photos she took. My hope is that this review will prevent sadness and heartbreak, like we suffered, to any future newlyweds.
In short, we were given low quality wedding photos. I could not stop crying the first couple times I looked through them. When Sara emailed us that she was done with our photos, she suggested that we get these photoshopped by someone. My bra cups were showing, people were blinking, and the photos were dark. Sara did not even include any first kiss photos initially. Later when we asked about them, she did not deliver them at first because she took them from like a mile away. People have actually commented that our photos do not look professional.
The worst part about this is that Sara admitted the pictures were bad. We tried to ask for more photos (which she indeed tried to help with) to avoid writing this review, but we eventually realized good photos were not taken. When we asked about the subpar photos, Sara verbally agreed that they were not good but did not offer solutions. The only thing she said was something along the lines of, "yea, I'll never take photos at a Catholic Church ever again." She said this to us at least twice, and it could not have made us feel lower or worse. (We weren't even married in a Catholic Church) We feel we are reasonable people, and we understand you might have had a bad day. Even if Sara were to contact us now, I would be open to discussing solutions. However, we have never felt that we were treated with any decency or respect by Sara, so it would not be a surprise if she did not reach out to us.
Overall, we feel there was a severe lack of preparation, effort, and communication from Sara. There was not a single call or conversation about what we wanted for our wedding. I even emailed Sara before our big day, and she did not respond. We even emailed her the guidelines set by the venue way in advance, but Sara did not have any thoughts about it.
Looking at these other reviews, I cannot help but feel that we were treated like second class citizens by Sara. But I think I should take these reviews with a grain of salt as one of the 5 newest reviews was written by my nightmare wedding planner (we had to seek legal counsel after firing her) and the others are written by photographers in the business. I love that wedding photographers support each other (Sara mentioned she was in a photographer group in SD), but honesty, diligence, and kindness are important to the people who pay for your services. They should not be used to inflate reviews.
If you do hire Sara, here are my recommendations: First, we were foolish in that we asked our guests to put their phones away during the ceremony. We should have let them take photos to make up for Sara's lack of concern for our wedding. Scope out your venue for photo spots yourself and tell Sara what to do beforehand. I would recommend that you do NOT share any personal information about yourself or your friends with Sara- remove it completely from the schedule before giving it to her. Make a day-of-logistics-phone-call a requirement to discuss your wedding day before booking her. Ask Sara if she read through the venue guidelines and ask her how she will accommodate the rules. It was my fault for expecting anything more than the bare minimum from Desert Born. Sara did not once check that our clothes looked good, makeup was okay, or do anything extra. She just took our money, took some photos, and left. We had the most beautiful venue with several courtyards, but Sara took all the outdoor photos in 1 single backdrop and called it a day. I wish I was exaggerating. Again, we are so open to working with Sara for a fix to this horror- but if you are reading this review as is, it is proof that Sara has still left us in the dark with terrible photos. read more
