I have been a member of DSFCU for almost 20 years. I have no significant complaints about their customer service. They have always been friendly and helpful.... but I am about to close my main account (a checking account). I understand that banking has become incredibly competitive and it is now difficult to avoid fees at any bank or credit union unless you go all online with Ally. As DSFCU enacted new hoops to jump through to keep my checking account free, I leapt throught them because they weren't too much of an inconvenience. There haven't really been any compelling reason to stay with DSFCU for years but I did. Their online banking interface is incredibly dated. As with most credit unions, they don't have many of their own ATMs and none outside of Arizona. Yes, I know "shared branching" exists but it's a lot easier to find a "Chase" or "Bank of America" sign. I will admit, they finally addressed the poorly designed phone app so that was a plus. But... when I found out about this new "Relationship Rewards" program, it pushed me off the edge. After being notified a month ago that all accounts were being switched over to this program, I received a detailed mailing a few days ago. It contained a welcome letter, a four page explanation of fees and a large, color fold out brochure loaded with graphics and text explaining the new "Relationship Rewards" system. The letter told me I was at the "achieve" level. I am a college educated professional. It took me some time to figure out what factors lead to placing me there. I followed the X/Y table to determine where my row and column met. After that, I wasn't entirely clear on the parameters so I had to carefully read the fine print. I ultimately figured out that I could avoid the checking fee by either making direct deposits of $750+/month OR maintaining a balance over $2500 OR making 25 debit card transactions/month (that's ridiculous!). It would have been a lot simpler to just include those three parameters in the letter rather than solving a puzzle. Of course, there are a bunch of miscellaneous benefits of the "achieve" level but there's only one that really matters to most people - waiving monthly fees. I had all these benefits on my checking account before this "Relationship Rewards" program. Before this program, I knew the three things, the same three things mentioned above, that allowed me to avoid fees. So, DSFCU, there really was no reason for me to stick with you and this convoluted new "Relationship Rewards" program makes banking with you more complicated. I'm not going to jump through this hoop. My advice? You have become a big bank (err... I mean... credit union). You've managed to become just like a big bank but with even less convenience. I think you may sometimes have a little edge when it comes to loans and that probably helps your bottom line. I think you should rethink ways you can return to being an option to the big banks rather than becoming so much like them. Now... you still have my mortgage which is fine. I don't have to traverse a maze or solve a sudoku puzzle to determine or pay the monthly bill. Please don't screw that up. read more

I just called their service number to find out why they gave my 800 dollar tax return to zelle without asking me first or even letting me know . My question was who gave them permission to access my account in the first place . I had closed my checking account because of this and they told me because of that I would have to take it up with zelle. What does zelle have to do with my account where they can access your account and remove money without my permission . I wouldnt trust them with a nickel !!! How does that work , they give it to anyone ? Then customer service tells me to call zelle , they can't help me? What kind of backwards bull is that ? I had the government put my tax return in my account and they just took it out and gave it away ! My account, my money , no accounting on their part . What a sham !! Imagine that. They now have changed the first and last pole to be higher so anyone driving a regular vehicle can see them. They also have plastic around them. They still refused to pay for the damages to my vehicle which was completely their fault when changing the design of that island. The poles used to be the way they are now. High up and yellow. They shortened them and that's when several vehicles had similar damage. read more

Frustrating the ATM's are always down at this location. You have to go inside and wait in line to withdraw a little cash. I have had them from when I financed my first car but they don't have many locations anymore. Maybe its time to look at other options. read more

Got a call from Desert Financial Credit Union alerting us of potential fraudulent transactions on our checking account. We verified the fraudulent transactions and the compromised card was shut off. Meanwhile, our account has been drained and Desert Financial won't charge the transactions back to the vendors until we go through a "dispute process" trough the member services department. Of course, the member services department is closed on the weekends. So much for protecting our funds. Major fail Desert Financial Credit Union!!! UPDATE: Today we learned they don't distinguish between fraud and a dispute. They WILL pay pending transactions EVEN if reported as fraud. You must then go through the dispute process and it will take FIVE BUSINESS DAYS for the funds to be put back in the account. read more

I'm from out of state. I use a credit union in my state. I went to the Desert Financial Credit Union on 44th St., South of Thomas in Phoenix & used their ATM to get cash. No charge to me since I am a credit union customer. I needed the 2-20's changed into 5's and 1's. I went into the branch, no line, no waiting, went right up to the 3 counters that were open & handed her the 20's & asked for some change. She asked for my ID. I gave her my license & my own credit union card. She said that unfortunately they can't do any type of transaction, including giving change to someone who isn't a customer to Desert Financial C.U. Even though atm's are shared, no other transactions can be done, including giving change. Unbelievable. I went across the street to a Chase Bank, waited in a short line, handed the gentleman my 2-20's, he never asked for any type of ID and gave me the change I needed. He was smiling, friendly & told me to have a great day. That's customer service. I don't bank at Chase, and he never asked me where I banked, but he was willing to help me whether I was a member or not. Can't believe how un-helpful Desert Financial Credit Union is. Talk about no customer service. If it were my company I'd help whomever I could help, because you never know who your next customer could be. She answered all of our questions and helped us set up the mobile app as well. horrible atm service! the atm is always out if service, then it took my bank card and for the fifth time i have to change account number again! i am done with this credit union! this happens not only at one location but several, always out of service and it is very dangerous running from one atm to another trying to pull your own money out! my day was supposed to have started already and it is ruined now! i will be banking with another credit union from here on. i will not ever refer anyone to this bank. you can get robbed easily or even killed looking for atm's that work. read more

Went in to pay off a loan via shared branching. Needed to have them fax confirmation of cash payment to my credit union to expedite a title release. I've now called five times and still not had the confirmation sent to the proper receiving party. When I called the fifth time, I reached a central hub and spoke with an extremely rude female who hung up on me when I requested to be transferred to someone at the specific branch I'd gone to earlier in the day. Long story short: I will NEVER do business with this institution again. I know financial institutions are notorious for bad customer service, and I've dealt with my fair share of banks and credit unions in the past; this one takes the cake for absolute worst customer service. read more

The customer service was extremely lacking through the entire loan process at this branch. I dont know if its the same across the board or not, but this was a very unsatisfying experience. The loan agent came across as condescending almost and in a rush to move on to the next client. The lack of follow up was also disappointing. Would not recommend at all. read more

Worst service ever. After accidentally leaving my card at the branch they held it for less than an hour before destroying it. The only reason she would give me is that it was for "security reasons". As if my financial security is at all tied to your ability to hold onto my card that is set up to pay all of my bills for at least a day. Either I'm missing something or you're employing thieves otherwise what risk is posed that would justify an increase in security in this situation? Or is that just a cop-out for poor service instead of a legitimate justification? So let me get this straight: you guys hold onto mountains of cash for long periods of time and keep that secure, but a plastic card is well beyond your capabilities of holding for longer than an hour? If you are a business owner and try to get a mortgage loan from them, forget it!!!!. Very unprofessional and unsophisticated, We have banked with them for over 25 years, have an 800 credit score, only wanted to refinance our house for a lower rate they were promoting. After 4 and 1/2 months they said we did not qualify because of income. I gave them hundreds of pages of documents and tax returns that proved we had over triple the income needed. I asked to speak to a supervisor who did call but never did call back as she agreed. As a result went to a bank and got approval in 30 days but rates had gone up. Considered filing a complaint with the BBB. Was never able to speak to the CEO. I am totally disgusted with this organization! RLJ read more

I loathe this bank. I can't wait to move my accounts to my Airline Credit Union. Their fees are ridiculous and they always freeze my account when I'm out of town. Terrible phone customer service! I called one time to get my routing number, so I could pay my mortgage. This evil troll on the phone was very condescending, and made it difficult for me to get the routing number. I understand they have to follow security measures, but even after I had verified my social security, address, full name, and the last three transaction I had done. She still would not release my info. She said for security, she wanted the last payroll deposit. WTF? Was this woman clueless or just on a power trip? When I told her it wasn't possible since I wasn't able to access the Internet at the moment. She gave the "oh well" attitude. Frustrating to say the least! I came in today to open an account and it was one of the most painless experiences I've ever had at a financial institution. They even stayed about 10 minutes late to help me finish up. They issued me a debit card right away and helped me get set up on online banking on my phone. Only thing I would change is I wish their debit cards had the "tap" feature - I'm going to miss that from my old bank but I'm not going to miss the hell my old bank put me through. I have been a member for 14 years. My savings account was inactive for 3 years so they decided to withdraw my money and give it to the Arizona Department of Revenue as Unclaimed Property. It will take me 4 to 5 months to get my money back, plus they charged me a $15 fee. WOW!!! and thanks for the courtesy call!!!! I talked to the manager and she just said sorry. I've been with DS for many years and although they are underwhelming at best they are not any worse than the others, but recently I needed help with some NSF charges that occurred after I had closed my accounts and got no help. I don't think my review will make one bit of difference but I want them to be reminded that if you have a good, long-term customer with multiple accounts, it's just good business to help them out even if they are leaving you. I am not an account holder at Desert financial however I typically make deposits on behalf of someone else at this specific branch. I randomly received a call from this branch asking me if I wanted to open a checking account, I told the person on the phone that I may be interested and would possibly come in a few days to discuss further. The rep immediately stated she had all my information in front of her including a copy of my drivers license and could open a checking account right then, all I had to do was come in and sign. I told her NO and specifically said I would come in to gather more information before committing to an account. A few days later I get a call from the same representative stating she has OPENED a checking account on my name and all I needed to do was come in and sign! I then questioned her decision to open accounts without permission! She stated that during our past phone conversation I had given her permission but If I was no longer interested she could JUST close the account!!!!!! Stay away from this branch! read more

I just had to write an Outstanding Kudos for the Branch Manager, Rosa, at the 44th Street, Phoenix location of DSFCU Branch. Rosa is a rare breed of professionalism and true spirit in the representation of a business. I had gone to the bank to get two documents notarized, simple enough and no brainer. There was a person who does the notaries there by the name of JARED. Well long story short, the incompetence of JARED, not knowing his job or his nose from his toes, made for one of the all time bad scenarios in my long life! JARED did not and does not know how to do his job! He is an extremely rude and fairly dumb person. When after several times explaining what needed to be done and it was a simple task, he was too pre-occupied acting like he knew it all and did not listen. I explained over and over what I need and had done this procedure in notary many time before. I even used visual aids to help the poor idiot. He could not understand it, guess he never went past the 2nd grade. When I asked for a manager so he could understand I was correct, he also denied me access to a manager! I went home, call the branch and spoke directly to the branch manager, Rosa. She totally agree with me, that I was correct in the notary procedure I wanted done. She agreed that Jared had been incompetent in handling the procedure and our request for a manager. She also agreed Jared did not follow protocol and should have gotten a manager to his office immediately. Rosa was very accommodating, apologetic and helped me get the services I needed at branch close to my home. Her branch was 18 miles from me, but that morning was close for us to conduct business. Rosa was the best professional person I have dealt with in many many years! She handled the situation without hesitation and made me feel great after being so upset with JARED. Rosa is not only an inspiration that thoughtful, intelligent people still existed but definitely is Super Duper Asset to Desert Schools! Keep getting more Rosa's DSFCU HR and definitely get rid of JARED! God knows who else he has offended and how many have left the branch totally p.o. due to his incompetence! read more
