Safe and quiet community. The amenities are very nice, I really enjoy living here, very peaceful.

Horrible place to live. It is dirty when you move in. Nothing seems to work in the apartments , for example the dishwasher was broken the entire time I lived there and it was 10 months. I asked them to fix it countless times. The leasing ladies are very rude until you are about to move out, then they magically turn friendly and act like they are sad you are leaving. Don't bother cleaning the place when you leave as they will charge you a cleaning fee no matter how good you clean it. Please if you value living in a decent place don't choose here you will regret it. By far the worst place you could live. Lighting is horrible, my apartment was ant infested and they never came to fix the issue, I had to deal with the ants myself. The water is gross in the apartment and will damage your hair and skin. There is no parking in the entire place if you come home late, and they will tow your car if you park in a no parking spot even through there is no available spots. Nothing about this place is any good. Save your time and money and choose some place else. They will take all of your deposit money too so don't expect to get it back. A SHINY QUARTER IN THE ROUGH. Lived here longer than I expected (2+ years) and privileged to meet some stellar people. On the facilities end, there was Ismael tasked with the never-ending responsibility of keeping all communal areas, laundry room and 100+ units in working order. On the business end, there was Linda in charge of maintaining amicable landlord-tenant relations and ensuring complaints were addressed thoroughly and promptly. For some reason, Linda left the managerial position and issues began to fester, sometimes boil over. For instance, the main gate would at-times malfunction and be left open (especially during high winds), which defeats the purpose of having a security gate. Or, cars would just be left abandoned and residents returning from their full-time jobs would have to search painfully for a parking spot. Or, a neighbor's window was boarded up with plywood because a rock had been hurled through their patio door. Right before I moved out, I learned prices went up by 50%! And still all units were fully occupied. Sadly, Desert Heights is the best of really bad alternatives. Welcome to Barstow, CA . read more

We rented the apartment for a little over 8 months. We left the apartment even cleaner than when we got it. When we received our deposit by mail I was shocked to see we only got back $62 dollars. The office lady never disclose there was a cleaning fee of over $200 dollars. She did disclose the carpet cleaning fee. They new we had no pets, shoes were taken off before entering apartment. I just dont understand why they never mentioned cleaning fee, if I knew I wasn't going to get at least half of my deposit I would've never busted my ass cleaning. People please don't ever rent from here, they take your money no matter how well you clean. read more

Renter BEWARE: Lived there for under a year, paid the break-lease clause. Management conducted a pre-move out inspection, all was in great shape and personally told the apartment looked great. We even asked site maintenance for touch-up paint. Upon move out, another inspection, told by front office the apartment is great, in move-in condition. However, it was later determined a cleaning fee was applied, in addition to the carpet cleaning, which was standard. The cleaning fee was never disclosed prior to this. I believe the management company does this to avoid returning the deposit back. Had management told us, do not expect your money back, we would NEVER bother cleaning the apartment. Why bother, they will just charge you for it. Also, the ever behind utility bill. In the end, you will NOT get your deposit back adding everything together. read more

THIS PLACE WILL MILK YOUR WALLET DRY!! Over priced, very little parking available, only one laundry room and half the machines were always out of order, water got shut off multiple times for constant repairs, A/C barely worked, carpet was old and gross, I only lived there for a year but got charged for the carpet replacement when we moved out!! Upstairs sliding glass door to balcony did not lock which was dangerous for my two toddlers, had to go buy a child lock on my own. Water bill was ridiculously high, about 60-70 a month!! When we moved out we had spoke with a girl in the office and let her know 30 days in advance that we'd we moving out, she told us that she would write a note in our profile and not to worry about anything. Well we move out and when I go to turn in the key the manager tells me she had no idea we were moving out and were in "violation of our lease" even tho our lease had ended in April and they never sent us a renewal letter! She told me that they only send a lease renewal once a year but we were on a 6 month lease agreement! Basically told us that it renewed automatically. When I told her I had spoken to the office 30 days in advance she told me that the girl I spoke to had quit and didn't let them know about moving out. And that's our fault HOW?? I cleaned that apartment head to toe when we left, and STILL was hit with a hefty cleaning bill, paint, carpet replacement AND they kept our lease which was $1000! read more

If you want to live in an apartment where the residents don't respect the property or other residents or the management doesn't care about the music coming in blasting..and the college kids are the ones that cause alot of problem here..and management does nothing.. then this is where you belong. if you want a nice property you don't want to rent here all they care about is renting .people that make all kinds of Racket in the middle of the night bust car windows destroy the property. One of the nicest places to rent from in Barstow. Clean, nice pool, kid pool, laundry is not expensive. I would recommend. If someone complains about being rent being to high then they are cheap and should move. Some utilities are included. Manager is amazing, kind, friendly, and professional. read more

Extremely overpriced! Parking is not regulated (hard to find a spot), dumpster area is nasty all the time, laundry room is over priced and not taken care of (by tenants or property management), too many water shut-offs, AC/Heater continued to go out, carpet was extremely warn/needed replacing, older windows (not double pane), no noise restriction policy (and if there is one it definitely was not enforced), lots of noise from street side, water bill is extremely high (billed monthly at apartments but bi-monthly in town and its almost triple what you'd pay in town). These apartments are a rip-off, not to mention the security deposit is a joke too, DO NOT expect to get it back (they tack on so many things that they don't tell you about). These apartments are a huge disappointment! read more

In the expansive, barren town of Barstow, California sits an oasis; a luxurious jewel of a community aptly called, Desert Heights. A diamond in the rough which I am extremely lucky to call my home. With its perfectly manicured landscapes and modern immaculate buildings, I am proud to be a resident of Desert Heights. Everything from the laundry room to the garbage bins is flawlessly maintained. Linda, the manager, is exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable; working diligently to solve any issues and make sure the residents are happy. I am beyond happy! Ecstatic, if you will. The apartments are large and open with plenty of storage spaces. Hardwood floors and state of the art appliances are an added bonus. The community is conveniently located next to major shopping centers. Living in the desert, with extreme temperature fluctuations, it's nice to know that utilities are included in the cost of the rent! There's even cable! Worried about creepy crawlies? Rest assured... Pest control is included as well. I've lived in a number of apartments and never have I been as pleased as now. In this unstable economy, it's comforting to know that I can live in a beautiful community that offers so much more then what you pay for. read more

I have lived here for almost a year and I really like it. it is a gted community so very safe. Electric and cable are included int he rent. The apartments are ice and the property is well maintained iwth anice pool and on-site laundry room. they also have a small exercise room although I go to the nearby gym at the Marine base. if you are coming to Barstow, this is as good as it gets int he high desert. It is also close to the community college and the only Walmart in Barstow. Linda is a good manager so I recommend this palce if you are looking for an apartment. Several of my co-workers live here as well. read more

DO NOT RENT HERE!!! I lived here for 2 years and took immaculate care of the apartment, keeping it spit polish clean. After 2 years, I did a complete room-by-room thorough cleaning so I could be sure to get my $450 deposit back. I didn't. They charged me for carpet cleaning, painting the apartment and cleaning the apartment, none of which was necessary. California law states that any general cleaning of apartments, to include carpet cleaning and painting, is not to be charged to the tenant after 1 year of occupancy. My place didn't even need it, and the apartment manager even inspected the place and said it look good. But the corporation that runs this place charges everyone (this corporation also owns the Barstonian apartments, so don't rent there either!) - of course they don't tell you that when you sign the lease- regardless of the apartments condition. SO IF YOU RENT HERE, DON'T BOTHER CLEANING WHEN YOU LEAVE, 'CAUSE THEY'RE GONNA CHARGE YOU ANYWAY! I've always gotten my full deposits back - always - and I've rented a lot over the past 20 years. But not this time.., I only got $200 of the $450 back. That's the thanks I got for taking care of the place - and that's the thanks you're gonna get too.
