I was searching for a midwife to help me with my natural water birth journey, after much hours of research Kyla seemed like the one. I called her and we spoke about what I wished for and why I was looking for a midwife so late and she understood and made me feel at ease. I was 8 months pregnant and worried about not fulfilling my birth plan, I was in between another midwifery service and debating whether or not I should move forward with Kyla. She was helpful when I told her that Medicaid was willing to do a home birth, but with prior authorizations. Medicaid was not my primary insurance, but I only had it because my first choice of Midwifery service accepted Medicaid for a water birth in which I solely wanted. She did what she could to work with me, which I did appreciate but I sensed her frustration even though I assured her that I would pay out of pocket for her service. After awhile she gave up on me and dropped me as a potential client stating she had already met her client quota for the month of June. She also said she would send over a couple of referrals but only sent one, in which I already knew about. I felt like she threw that excuse at me and it may have not been true because she was already annoyed with trying to get Medicaid to approve her service. I was so disappointed and worried, I was back to square one and on top of that she couldn't even give me a call to tell me the disappointing news, everything was through text which I found unprofessional. I even asked her to call me after she told me the news and she ghosted me, she never gave me a call or texted me back. I understand it's a business, but I feel like most of these midwifes in Las Vegas are money hungry and only really care about the money and not the true love of helping women with their birthing journey. Being a two time parent I knew I wanted to make the transition easier for my boys so an at home birth made sense once we were expecting our third child. I had previously had a non medicated hospital birth so I felt like I knew what I was doing. Meeting Kyla was something I will always appreciate. Appointments were always great and we really got to know each other and my family it was great vibe. When my daughter decided to make her appearance it happened to be her birthday she still made her way to me and stayed a bit as we were wondering if I was in active labor or just prodromal. I don't have enough kind words to say about Kyla so let me tell you about my birth. It happened out of nowhere (as most births do) however, start to finish was 40 minutes. 40!! So it started with me having to go to the bathroom...A LOT which then led to pressure, that I was unsure if it was really contractions or not. I decided to reach out to my midwife who was NOT Kyla and she immediately told me she was on her way!! About 10 minutes later Kyla showed up, as she was our midwife's assistant AND birth photographer!! She immediately checked me and I was crowning! Baby was coming and coming fast! Her voice was calm, she acted fast and in the midst of it all was capturing as much of my birth as possible!! I would recommend her to anyone. I hired Kyla as my doula. I had previously had a c-section and wanted to try for a vaginal birth in the hospital setting. Kyla was open to being my doula in this setting. There was never any pressure to do anything I didn't want to. We met several times and discussed my previous birth, concerns I had, my birth plan and she answered all of my questions. I liked that Kyla herself had experience giving birth both at home and in the hospital. Even though I ended up needing a c-section after all due to the timing of my birth, Kyla made herself available to help me in any way I wanted (being there in the hospital after the c-section, coming to my home as support, etc). I was a 1st time mom delivering at home. At the time Kyla was with WRM as well as an independent photographer. We had hired her as our photographer for our birth photos. During our labor and delivery we had a couple of slight complications and didn't have enough hands on deck. Kyla got right in there and took on the role as if she were my doula and midwife assistant. As a first time mother, I didn't have the tools or knowledge of what to expect when it came to birth. With proper research I realized that having a midwife and doula for my home birth would be essential for not only myself but for my husband as well. I met Kyla when I hired my Midwife for a Homebirth. Kyla was a midwife student working alongside my midwife and I was advised she would be part of my birth team. A few times I met with Kyla only, as my midwife was out of the office at a birth or unavailable. Kyla was always pleasant, kind, and reassuring during these visits. I never felt "left alone" or felt I was not receiving the care I deserved. Kyla and my midwife are a super birth team, and it was obvious the day I went into labor. Unfortunately, my midwife was sick and to prevent any possible exposure to me and my baby, Kyla was front and center through my entire birth. Her care and calm manners were so reassuring! I remember feeling like things were not progressing, so I asked to be checked. Kyla checked me and told me I was almost there, even pointed out the one part of the cervix that was still not fully dilated. I followed advise from my midwife to do more of the side lying position to help. Shortly after, I was ready to push. Both my midwife and Kyla knew I wanted to catch my own baby, but I was not having it because I was so tired and just wanted to be done! Kyla and my midwife cheered me on and kept reminding me that I wanted to catch my baby and that I could do this. The support, care, and push led me to catch my own baby! Once the placenta was delivered, Kyla took the time to show me this amazing organ and discuss how it supported my baby etc. It was such an amazing experience, from beginning to end. Kyla did my follow up visit at home, and once again, answered any questions I had, loved up on our new baby, and was just present. She also took a few behind the scene shots of my labor/birth and even caught on video our daughters singing Happy Birthday to the baby. She did not have to do that, but did, and provided all photos/video to me. I was so appreciative and thrilled she captured these special moments. I am forever grateful that our journey to find our midwife also led us to find Kyla. Sadly enough, we don't plan on having anymore babies, but if I did, I would seek out Kyla!
