Design 4 Life have 3 studios, the city centre studio, Smithdown Road and Old Swan. All the studios are clean, hygenic and pleasant places to be in. The staff go out of their way to be friendly and helpful and you never feel intimidated going into their studios. They provide a wide range of designs on the wall and in books and magazines to choose from, but are also more than happy to create a custom design at no extra cost. The piercing side of the business is equally as excellent. The piercers are experienced, highly trained and knowledgable about their jobs. They are more than happy to take the time to explain the piercing and aftercare advice to ensure that customers are happy with their piercings. The tattoo artists are multi award winning, in particular Hazel, who is an amazing artist and I personally cannot recommend her enough. All the studio's also have male and female tattoo artists and piercers to ensure that customers are completely comfortable with the person who is working on them. Such an amazing tattoo shop! We came down for a vacation from the US and looked everywhere for a tattoo shop that would get us in as a walk-in. We ended up having to come in right when they opened to see if we could get a spot later in the day and trust me, the wait was worth it! We came in for two "smaller" tattoos and both Gus and Jade were able to draw up some amazing work within the hour. If you're looking for a clean and friendly shop, this is the place to go. Best experience! My friend and I went for a nose piercing and immediately felt so comfortable as they were so lovely, accomodating and professional. Everything was super clean and well organised and felt really reliable. I am only travelling and so the piercer (Dan) gave me contacts for where to go and suggestions for how to treat my piercing while travelling - which was super helpful. I got a piercing here today and I was appalled at the costumer service I received from the girl with pink hair at the reception desk. I am 21 and I do look young for my age so she asked me for ID. I showed her my ID which was a provisional driving license and I was told this wasn't a valid ID and was asked what age I was when the photo was taken. When I said look it is me I just look young and have dyed my hair she just laughed and made me feel really uncomfortable. She called over a man to check the ID and he was really nice and explained they were being strict about ID because people under age had been trying to get piercing. When I explained to him I had changed my hair colour he said yes it did look like me and asked to girl to pierce but she refused saying "I'm not doing it" so the boy did it instead and was really nice and good piercer. I feel this was really bad costumer service I was feeling really nervous anyway and the way the girl at reception treated me felt me feel really uncomfortable and upset. Due to the girl with the pink hair at the reception desk I would not go here again. read more

Here on vacation with my boyfriend we both got tattoos today. We walked in around 2pm knowing that they close at 6pm and they said they could fit us in near the end and they kept their promise. Tattooed the both of us leaving both of us satisfied! Our tattoo artist was Lee and he worked with my obnoxious low pain tolerance. Everyone there was very kind. I recommend this tattoo shop. Travelled to Liverpool for a day of shopping and read good things about this place so popped in with my friend for us each to get a tattoo. It being her first tattoo. We both got small wrists tattoos, and were in there about twenty minutes in total, with no problems. We were told if we had any problems or touch ups needed then to pop back in. Four weeks pass and our tattoos are pretty awful, we looked after them, I have never had any problem with my previous tattoos healing before, but these didn't heal properly were patchy and sore the whole time. So we took another train for the two and a half hour journey back to the shop. We walk in an explain the problem. There's about seven people behind the desk all doing nothing, just stood around chatting, however they weren't interested in our problem. One of them went upstairs to ask the guy who originally did them if he would touch them up, and he said no. So we were told tough luck. They were rude and unhelpful, only made worse by the fact they were all stood there doing FA, and any one of them could have taken ten minutes to fix them. I'm sure if we had been paying customers wanting a new tattoo they would have all be free. So, we paid full price again for a tattoo shop in our home town to fix them. Basically they needed redoing completely. The tattooist said it had been done badly to begin with and was always going to be a problem. Obviously I would never go back, robbing useless idiots. read more

I went in to price and look through the catalogues with my neice ..as it was to be an eighteenth birthday present for her....though she is not quite 18 yet....we were totally honest with the staff...Now I do understand how the law stands, and as I was about to book in for when she reached 18 proper..I found the 'receptionist ' totally unhelpfull and lacking in customer care...and as a result walked out and booked elswhere....it is a shame as other reviews where so good....but as reception is the first port you go to, I would have thought they would have been more receptive so to to speak.. read more

I called in at design 4 life tattoo knowing what and where I wanted my tattoo.I was told by the young male receptionist that I had to have it bigger than I wanted it and had to have it not in the place I wanted it .I didn't even get to speak to a tattooist! I was actually scouting out tattooists in preparation for a full sleeve! It reminded me of old school sailor studios that are arrogant and not customer centric.I went round the corner to 13 Ink tattoo where I spoke to a lovely,freindly tattooist who is putting exactly what I want,where I want it on Monday! I can only assume design 4 life tattoo is so busy that they can turn people away!although it must be with noobs who are prepared to compromise and do it their way not the way they want it. read more

In November I finally managed to book an appointment at recommended Design for Life, I'd done my research and decided I wanted a certain tattooist as his work was great and looked like he could create the tat I wanted. I booked it over instagram and kept having days where there would be no response, and when asking if it would be easier to phone I was told I couldn't make appointments over the phone. I told him what I wanted and he even asked me if it was 'the word hope at the back of my neck' that I wanted, and when I said yes he said he'd booked me in on the 10th at quarter to 5, so I felt I had enough confirmation. I was excited for my first tattoo but on the day i got stuck in traffic, and I called to tell them I would be 5 minutes late and was going to tell them that if they can't fit me in I was happy to change my appointment as I didn't want them to rush. I was passed around to 3 different people all saying they either couldn't find me in the system or that I simply hadn't been booked in anyway, and the tattoo artist wouldn't be finished with his other client til quarter past 5. When I got there feeling worried about why I wasn't booked in, I noticed it smelt funny almost like public toilets and smoke. They handed me a form to fill out and after handing it in only then was I told that they weren't insured to tattoo hands feet and necks, "anywhere that would risk you being unable to get a job." Now normally when things like this happen I try not to get annoyed because working with the general public myself I know how hard it can be, sometimes mistakes do happen where a client turns up and isn't booked in, but the fact that I had clearly said what I wanted when making my appointment and the tattooist hadn't mentioned anything about being unable to tattoo my neck was confusing. The staff were dismissive, kept getting my name wrong after saying it over 5 times and barely apologetic over the mishap and let me walk out feeling dissappointed and annoyed. After seeing other reviews I feel that this wouldn't be the best place for a tattoo. read more
