Where's this place been hiding all my life? The fella in the stores said they've been open for seven years, oops! I should've been all over this when I moved into college. Welp now I'm shopping (window shopping) for my apartment ( that I don't have yet) and this is the FIRST place I'm coming. IKEA ain't got nothing on this place. Their furniture is modern and fun and was giving me serious #apartmentgoals vibes. Everything was vibrant, yet sophisticated. I will definitely be coming back for some of the cute pieces I saw. I came here looking for a liquor cabinet/wine rack but they didn't have any. What they did have was a lot of overpriced furniture with no style or heart. A lot of their furniture looks like it could be purchased at Ikea for much cheaper. And a lot of the showroom looked empty and bare. I guess this place would be good for Yuppies but I can't imagine I'll be back. (I went the day after Thanksgiving and no one was in the place.) In Baltimore city there is very few stores with contemporary furniture. Home on the Harbor is the best of them by a mile. They have a great staff that is super helpful and will work with you to customize something that is best for your home. I have purchased 3 pieces of furniture to upgrade old stuff that no longer fit my style or the style of my new condo. read more

Very bad customer service, bad attitude from lazy staff who didn't care to make a phone call to find stock status of furniture. Also, every single chair and couch I set on were very uncomfortable. You can buy online all brands they sell on Lumens.com, 2Modern.com, and Perigold.com, and save on shipping and taxes. read more

I visited the store, looking for pieces for a client's home that I am furnishing. I found a floor model modular sofa (3 pieces) with a tag marked "AS SHOWN, $2230 - 50%". I really wanted just the center piece (an armless chair), and asked the sales person if I could buy just one piece. She asked the owner (Karen) who said no. I then went and spoke to her myself, asking again. She said that due to the really good price on the piece, it was all 3-pieces or nothing. I could not break it up. I said ok, took photos of both the 3-piece couch and the price tag, and said that I would bring the client by anyway to see it. In the meantime, I asked the sales person to email me an official quote to send to the client. She goes to the manufacturer's website to get the photo of the 3-piece sofa as shown on the floor, and emails me a quote. "$2230 - 50%". Fast forward 2 days. I bring the client in. Same sales person. Same couch. Same tag. Same price. The client looks at the couch and likes it. We also looked at a number of other pieces while we were there to furnish the rest of his large row home. We decide to go home and measure one more time to be sure he was happy with the large couch size. I emailed the sales person later that day to say we'll take it and try to pay & schedule delivery. She is off for the next 2 days, so we have no problem awaiting her return to cash out. Fast forward another 2 days to her return to the store. I reach out again to schedule payment and delivery. I get a response saying sure, and "oh btw, the price I gave you was for 2 pieces, not 3. The end pieces are 50% off, but the center is regular price." Ummmmm...what?!? I have been there multiple times. I have brought a client in that you spoke to directly. I WANTED to break up the piece and was told twice I could not. I have photos of the couch, the tag with "AS SHOWN" written and the price, the emailed quote with photo and confirmed price. At what point did the 3-piece go to 2?!?! "I'll call you back," she says. Next I get a call from Seth, who is not my sales person, but she knew she couldn't back up her new price. He tells me that "we have the right to change prices at any time." Yes, you do, sir, but not when I have a written quote and the only reason it's 2 days after the quote is because your sales associate was off. He insists I spoke to him directly the first day about the 2 pieces (which I DID when I was telling him how I wanted the center piece only and they could still form a couch with the 2 end pieces on the floor.) He talks down to me, like I'm out of line for being so insistent that they honor what they quoted my client. (You may be able go back on what you tell me, a designer, but you cannot go back on a written quote that you gave my customer, who was in your store, just 48-hours after you said it to his face and emailed it to him.) Seth also gave me a new "best we can do" price of $1500 more than the original, which was highly comical considering my wholesale price on the piece through the vendor is less than that. I asked to speak to Karen (the owner) again who knows the convo we had and how she said it was 3-pieces or nothing. "She's in California and will call you back upon her return." It's now been over 3 weeks. No call. No email. No text to follow up. No apology to me or to my client. What HORRIBLE business practice!! Who does this to a customer? I spoke to each of these 3 people directly. And again, all of the written documentation to back up everything, as well. They have embarrassed me to my client and humiliated themselves as poor business people. Do yourself a favor and work with real professionals who are customer service oriented. The guys at MiY Home in Fells stepped up and saved the day, honoring the quote from Design Distillery for my client (even ordering him one brand new, not a floor model) despite this having *nothing* to do with them. He is now spending a fortune with them, furnishing the rest of his home. How foolish to step over dollars to pick up pennies, Design Distillery. You know you were wrong. It happens. We're all human. Do the right thing and honor the price you gave. Will NEVER shop here again, or refer another person. Foolish! read more

Last weekend we found a great chair at Home on the Harbor (a Louis Chair by Joybird, designed in homage to a 1950s Hans Olsen Fried Egg Chair, but tweaked to add more stability and comfort). One weekend later, we still wanted that chair. Called to buy it by telephone and have it delivered to Columbia. We were willing to wait a few days/weeks for delivery, but Seth got a very professional team from Mike's Moving to get it to our house it within two hours! My husband and I were really impressed that a) Erin and Seth at Home on the Harbor definitely understand MCM furniture and what the iconic pieces are, b) they only stock quality, and c) they get the little things like how nice it is to get the furniture on a weekend instead of taking a day off work, and do their best to accommodate that. I see another reviewer characterized their furniture as "overpriced." He went on to say that "furniture that looks like it could be purchased at Ikea for much cheaper." I can't speak to the specific pieces he was referring to, but in general I can say that "looking like" and "being of the same quality" are not the same thing. My husband researches every furniture investment we make, and all the on-line reviews about how pieces stand up over time. He could see that Erin and Seth curate for the best-quality items, and price them very competitively. read more

Cute stuff, horrible customer service. Two employees in the store and neither could even pretend to care enough for the five minutes I was in there to say hello or see if I needed help. The furniture I bought was fine, but the delivery was terrible and the "response" was nonexistent. The delivery service damaged my house, I called (after closing hours) and left a message and no one bothered to get back to me or offer anything to make up for this damage. Terrible customer service. I went into the store on the afternoon of Sunday 4/24 and walked around the showroom for 20 minutes looking at furniture. I was not acknowledged once. The one sales person was with two other customers while I was waiting, but one would think I would at least get an acknowledgment, e.g. "I'm sorry I'm quite busy today, can I offer you my card and we can arrange an appointment?" If the store cannot do this, then hire more people. I'll take the thousands I was ready to spend on furniture and go elsewhere. This is a shame because I live local and would have preferred to buy local. Contrast this to the bike shop next door, where I walked in and was asked by two people within the first minute I was in the store if they could help me. read more
