I recently went to DSE about a month ago and was asking for a Ash/silver balayage. I originally went to a stylist who previously worked there, but unfortunately she moved to another salon. So when i went to get my balayage I asked for the BEST person who did balayages. Upon arrival, this stylist was talking about doing my hair and said she hadn't done balayages in awhile but she was excited. At the time I thought nothing of it. Later in the session, she was toning my hair and a different stylist asked her "what toner are you using on her hair?" And she said "I don't know, I'm just mixing a bunch of them". This was a bit alarming but I thought since she was a professional hairstylist she knew what she was doing. At the end of the session, I looked at my hair and saw that there were random streaks of black, lots of green, grey, some light brown, some dark brown, all over my head. She told me that next session it would be the silver/ash color I wanted. In my head I was thinking, how could you take my light hair, turn it black and think it would be that almost white color by the next session? But in the end I payed 157$ and left. Later, we called the studio after and explained to the manager that we were unhappy with how my hair turned out, that it wasn't what I wanted, and that my hair is literally black and green. We said we wanted a refund and they told us that they do not do refund. They then said the manager herself would take us for a appointment on the following Monday and she would fix my hair. Then Monday came, and the appointment wasn't happening all of a sudden and they were just going to refund my money. So there I was with messed up hair but it got worse from there. After getting treatment done on my hair from how messed up it was, I was taking a shower and handfuls of my hair began to fall out. By the end of my shower, my entire underskirt was about five inches long, and above my shoulders. MY HAIR IS ALMOST TO THE MIDDLE OF MY BACK. So I was stuck with discolored hair, and half of my hair missing. I went to the first day of senior year with horrible hair. It was embarrassing. Thankfully, I found a amazing stylist who was able to fix my hair and give me extensions so I wouldn't look like a crazy person. Now, my hair is recovering from the whole process, but it is finally a ash/silver balayage. I do not recommend going to DSE and I can say I will never go there again. read more

I have had my hair buzzed short every since I went in the military 30 + years ago. I would almost always breakout after a haircut. I started going to Design Studio East and the breakouts have gone away. It is because of the extra things they do. Massage in some oil before the cut (even get a neck and shoulder massage). After the cut they take me to a sink and wash my scalp. Felt weird about that the first time. After that a nice but of oil massaged into the scalp. It has been two years now and I love that I don't have the red bumpy skin for a few days like in the past. Thank you ladies. read more

First time there great experience. The second time was very disappointing. I had a new stylist named beth, my other stylist moved on. I had a spa package that included a facial, a haircut hairstyle, full hair color, a manicure, and makeup. I've never had a spa day so I was super excited. We started off with the facial which went really well, then we moved onto hair and things started going south. I showed the stylist a picture of what I had wanted which was lighter brown highlights and the lowlights the same color as my hair previously was which was a red brown color. I leftthe salon with caramel highlights that were more like peekaboo highlights! My hair barely looked any different. She offered to throw in a few more highlights another day if I would like but at this point I did not trust her to touch my hair again. After my hair was through we went on to make up and manicure. It seemed to me she was just trying to rush to get me out of there at this point since I told her I didn't like my hair. I could have done a way better job on my own makeup then what she did. I had to start putting on makeup by myself because it was so uneven. Then we moved on to the manicure and this was the worst manicure I've ever had!! She did not soak my hands at all she buffed each nail one swoop and that was it, pushed my cuticles back and began to paint the paint job was horrible. She wasn't going to the cuticle line with the paint and I asked her why and she responded with " if I go all the way to the cuticle the shellac will peel". Lol. I have been getting my nails done for years and I've never experienced that! The spa package was already paid for in full in a gift certificate that I had received for Christmas. I go to pay for my services and the lady says I owe $65 not only did I get terrible service but she was also trying to overcharge me $65! Me being a server I still felt bad because we were together the whole day so I still left her a 15 percent tip even though I left irritated and with hair I will have to get redone.
