I found John Clark of @designREMODEL in a web search in 2019 prior to undertaking a major kitchen design and remodel. After meeting with a couple of designers and contractors, I knew John was the one I was going with. From the earliest stages of the project he was prompt, extremely organized and best of all, attentive to what I actually wanted. John and I worked to design my dream kitchen within our budget and he returned with a binder with renderings and detailing every step of the process (all before I actually signed my contract with him). This was important as the project was to be started and completed during our absence from the Cape during the winter months. I made several additions and changes along the way and even decided to have him renovate our 1/2 bath while he was working here, as well as build a hall entry area. John was in touch throughout the entire project, sending pictures frequently and communicating whenever there were choices or issues to discuss. The representative presented as agitated and told me that although they do the scope of work I was asking about, they are booked up until the fall. I cannot thank John enough for our wonderful new bathroom. He did a marvelous job. I wanted something functional and special for my husband's bathroom and John put it together perfectly. John planned in the high function elements thus: lovely shaker sliding door, a great deal of storage space, heated porcelain tile floor, heated towel rack, top quality, solid plumbing fixtures and bidet style seat for commode. He planned in gorgeous, serene design elements using rich porcelain and stone materials with quiet textures, muted colors, recessed lighting, and clean, uncomplicated lines. Having a beautiful outcome is one thing, a good thing of course, but working with John was amazing, he is charming and completely professional. I have to say that he brings old fashioned qualities and, quite simply, good manners, to the process that I haven't found in but maybe one or two contractors I've had for projects in the past. I get overwhelmed by big projects at my house, in this case, though, John's professionalism and skills made the project go very well. It is a pleasure to do business with him. Working with John, to figure out the details of function and design, I found him to be very generous with his time, he is thoughtful and he made it almost seem as if I were his only client. He communicates clearly. He established, and then stuck to, the project timeline. And nothing really seemed to stymie him, no matter how out of the box an idea of mine was, John would step up and figure out a way to make it work. In this project he showed great skill and ingenuity as a problem solver. He gets it done. In addition to the design planning, John does a lot of the hard work himself. Then he contracts with great people too. So my experience with whomever was in my house working on this project was always, always positive. I'm an interior designer and working with contractors back in Chicago is an absolute nightmare. It was an absolute pleasure and privilege to work with John and his team of ARTISTS. I posted many pictures so you could see his attention to detail. The tile work was amazing, John is trustworthy, fair, and so communicative while getting straight to the point and not talking your ear off. Finding good contractors on Cape Cod has proven to be quite difficult. Most times you're lucky if someone even shows up and if they do you start wishing they never had after dealing with all the painstaking problems throughout the duration of the project. Those that do put on a good front you're afraid to even contact because they're probably way out of your price range. We had dealt with pretty much all of the above on various smaller renovations on our historic little Cape Cod. Until we hired John from @design Remodel. I had good feelings from the very beginning when he called to tell us that he was a few days behind on getting our design ready. This small courtesy of communicating everything continued throughout the process and really put us at ease about talking to him about any concerns we had throughout the renovation. @design may not come in with the lowest bid for your project, but you certainly get what you pay for and then some. John was very understanding when it came to our budget and never made us feel like we were being forced into anything. He took care to find us products that were on sale, allowed us to take part in some of the smaller tasks to save money, and did his best when picking products and manufacturers to keep to our budget. This was particularly important for us given today's questionable economy. John had a rigorously planned schedule that even included keeping us, the clients, on task by reminding us about decisions we needed to make in order to keep to the greater schedule. The order of operations was meticulously planned to prevent any destruction or potential damage to areas that were already completed and John took extra care to keep the rest of our home as clean as possible. Even though we ran into a few issues with manufacturers that delayed the whole process by a few weeks, John made sure we had a working kitchen during that time and checked to see that we were comfortable with how things were going. Not having to deal directly with all of the plumbers, electricians, cabinet companies, painters, inspectors, countertop manufacturers, etc. really made things seem less stressful and I always had full confidence that John was on our side. John's attention to detail, professionalism, and down to earth personality are some of the things that make him stand out from other people in his industry. He has a wonderful way of getting to know his clients and I was rather impressed with his ability to understand our style and what we we were looking for right from the beginning. This was something I hadn't experienced before and really saved me from the exhausting task of describing every little detail of what we wanted or didn't want. He also made great suggestions for ways to keep the design within the 'look' of the rest of our old house. The workspace was clean and organized at all times and everything was protected properly (furniture etc). Every single worker was polite and well mannered. A great example of this is that in the master bedroom I had an existing set of sliding closet doors. The painter did a great job painting them to look like new. However, I had always been missing the little plastic piece that kept the doors separated (which is why they looked so terrible to begin with). I was delighted to discover that, without it even being mentioned, John had procured the little plastic piece and installed it. This kind of thoughtful attention to detail is just one example of many in the course of my project! #6 Cutting Edge Knowledge and Flexibility- John is up on all of the latest trends, techniques and options. My kitchen had limited space but John's suggestion to use wine pegs instead of a built in wine rack and USB outlets and night light outlets made all the difference in the world to creating a beautiful, functional space. We could not have asked for a more professional and courteous team to take care of our kitchen/living area renovation! Every craftsman/woman who entered my home treated me and my home with respect. We are accustom to 'issues' arising when attempting to update our home. John and Mike were willing to work with the challenges posed in this project to meet our requests throughout the project. Lynn, the designer, was helpful in initially directing the project. We are very pleased with the level of detail from the tile contractor, Adam. We had a complicated tile mural that is one of the focus areas of the kitchen and it turned out beautifully. The plumber, Al, went above and beyond the scope of the kitchen plumbing as he oversaw the installation of a new gas heater. The paint specialist, Kemp, was able to blend the many different wood tones in our living area to make it look much more consistent. The elecctrical contractor, Richard, worked through the various issues of our once all-electric home. This project did exceed the original schedule with scope changes being a contributing factor. Also worth noting--the constant communication between us and John during the project was very much appreciated. He has checked up on us several times since wrapping this up in March. read more

John Clark of @DesignRemodel is absolutely wonderful! Thanks to him, we now have 2 beautiful bathrooms, a laundry center, and a refurbished dining area. Our modest Cape-style home is becoming much more upscale, because his work is always meticulous. I can't wait to have him re-do our kitchen! John has done this work in 3 separate projects, spanning 3 years. The initial project took more time to plan, as John was getting to know our likes and dislikes, and as we got to know how John organizes the projects, and what kinds of materials he uses. By the third project (the gorgeous upstairs bathroom) I think we only had to spend a few hours arranging the details with John, because we had such a good sense of each other's tastes and abilities! It is easy communicating with John by email or phone to arrange all of the little details that go into these projects. John often sends suggestions as links in his emails, which makes for very efficient "shopping". One of the things I like best about John is that he will work within your budget and your personal tastes. If you want affordable yet high quality cabinets, fixtures, etc. he is familiar with the pros and cons of the major brands. John knows how the work should be done to achieve superlative results. During projects, he has incidentally found potential problems with the old windows, roof, trim, etc. on our house. He has solved the problems efficiently if they relate to the project at hand. He has also suggested ways the problems might be dealt with at a later date, in a cost-effective and timely way. If it isn't a major undertaking, he usually just fixes the problem at no additional cost, and moves ahead with the project. John is very organized! He has the project planned and the materials on hand before he begins the project. He has a trailer loaded with his tools and miscellaneous hardware, and rarely needs to interrupt his work to go to the store for a critical piece of hardware or materials. Above all, John is very considerate of the fact that people have to live in the house during the construction. He keeps the house CLEAN AND TIDY while he is doing the project. He lays down heavy paper to protect the floors where he needs to walk through the house. He vacuums up the dust and litter at the end of the day. He tries to leave the materials he is installing out of the way for as long as possible. He tries to notify everyone ahead of time when things will get noisy. I can trust John, his crew, and his contractors 100% if they are in my house when I am not there. I also trust them 100% to make things work out right when there are glitches in the construction project (and with an older home, those glitches do come up!). John Clark (@designREMODEL) was first hired to replace all of our old windows. This project involved a lot of carpentry work building custom window frames. His crew was so meticulous that they re-shingled an entire outside area because the old window was originally installed 1/4" off balance. Next, John was hired to remodel our kitchen. The project was completed within our time frame and the results are phenomenal. John's master carpenter, Mike, replicated a custom stove hood with reclaimed lumber that is a show stopper. John and his entire staff are friendly and easy to work with. We were kept abreast of progress and involved when questions arose. Work areas were left tidy and the house left clean. John is an obsessive cleaner. John aims to please. He even returned, after project completion, to hang a hat rack for us. I won't hesitate to use @designREMODEL again on future projects. It took me a long time to pull the trigger on some necessary remodeling, largely because the process can be so disruptive to daily life, particularly when one works out of the home. I found John through an online search. I had two projects done by John: a kitchen remodel in a condo, and a master bath remodel in my home. While he did a super job on the kitchen remodel, I didn't fully appreciate the top-to-bottom quality of his work until I had work done in the same home I live in, and lived with the project day to day. Communication - from our first meeting through each day of the process, John clearly communicated project steps, requirements, and schedules so that I always understood where the project was at, who was coming to the house and at what time, and any concerns that arose. John was a pleasure to work with, and was thorough and articulate in his presentation. There were times I surfaced a concern on a weekend - expecting to hear back from him Monday morning - and received a response immediately. Essentially the general contractor on the project, any questions I had went directly through John and he would notify his team as required. I didn't have to track down the individual tradespeople myself, John handled all of it, and would check in with me when he wasn't onsite. In my opinion, this level of communication had an enormous impact on resolution of problems and the successful outcome of the project. Prep - with nearly-white carpet and tile throughout my home, I was very apprehensive about having a half dozen people coming and going in the dead of winter. His first day onsite, John laid plastic sheeting from my back door to the worksite, and covered all the furniture in the room adjoining the worksite. It was laid carefully and lasted throughout the life of the project, saving my floor surfaces from unnecessary damage. Workmanship - John's team provided quality workmanship, across every trade represented: plumbing, electric, painting, drywall, tiling, glass, carpentry were all performed in a professional manner with excellent results. Everyone was pleasant and friendly, and proficient in their work. The relationships between John and his crew are long-term and proven, and obviously so. Cleanliness - At the close of each day, my home was cleaned up to the degree that no one might have been there at all that day. When John was there, he would vacuum the entire "walkway" from backdoor to worksite at the end of each day. I never had to trip over in-progress work during the process. On Time, on Budget - enough said. Ultimately, I was very pleased with the outcome of the project, and would have John do work again in a heartbeat. The disruption to my life was minimal, and there was no collateral damage which I have unfortunately found to be the case in previous situations with less reputable contractors. We are so happy we went with @designREMODELl!!! We hired them for a Kitchen Remodel in Harwich, MA. After the first meeting, with John Clark, we knew he was the person to hire. John listened to what we were looking for. Then he came back to us with a very detailed design proposal that included every step in the process. After working with us on a few changes, the project began. We were not living there at the time the remodel was being done, but John always updated us with the progress and would send photos. Our project was not with out a few issues, but John took on all the headaches and gave us piece of mind. When we met with the other contractors, they wanted us to do most of the leg work. This entailed going to a design person, then the cabinet area, located in a different town then the designer, then a flooring place and so on. After 17 years of living with 2 white on white on white bathrooms I decided to redo both at the same time. I found @designREMODEL on-line and after my first meeting with John I knew his firm was the right one for the job. Even in the first meeting I could tell he was very attentive to the details and would make the experience go as smoothly as possible. I had an idea of what I wanted but John was great at bringing ideas to the table and his entire team of craftsman were always open to changes and new ideas. And there were quite a few changes. The project expanded to include not just 2 full bathrooms, one of which had to remain somewhat functional as I was living in the house throughout the project, but a laundry area, wood floors in a master bedroom and the replacement of all interior doors. Mike, Adam, Al, Rick and Kemp all did an incredible job throughout all aspects of the job. Everyone John brought in had a similar attention to detail and was always open and accommodating to my last minute changes. They always took care to make sure the house was as put together and clean as possible during the 3 month project. As with any renovation there were issues along the way but they were always handled professionally and solved as quickly as possible. The project is complete and in addition to unbelievable bathrooms I feel like I have a brand new house. I was so pleased with the overall renovation that I have already secured John and his team for another project.
