If I had an unlimited budget, I could have purchased a dozen things! Pink Chicken is not a cheap brand, so for that reason, I stuck with the clearance rack. I found two adorable dresses and a pair of fun printed leggings on clearance for my 1.5 year old daughter and then couldn't resist adding on a cute bracelet at checkout. When I walked around this store, it reminded me a bit of the urban Targets that I have been to including the Las Vegas Strip and defunct Lake Street Minneapolis locations. It is a Baby Target that has a condensed one story floor plan featuring a limited product line of groceries, luggage accessories, general merchandise, and consumables. If I would have visited here on an earlier day in my vacation, I would have stocked up on snacks, beverages, and some beer. During my visit here on my last day of vacation ,I passed over stocking up on souvenirs on account of the fact that they seemed to be missing in action. From my travels in the Baby Target of Charleston, I noticed that they were nearly out of everything in their luggage accessories section. I did notice that although they sell health and beauty aids there is no pharmacy. And standing out from the other Baby Targets that I have been to, Starbucks was non-existent. I would consider their prices to be solid when taking into account that this Baby Target, the Kings Street Walgreens, and a CVS are from my understanding the only competitively priced retailers in the heart of Downtown Charleston. The majority of the nearby stores are specialty and highend clothing stores. As far as service, it is pretty much self service. In Target and major chain stores, I rely more on Google than on a Sales Associate. The self help environment was evident on the sales floor and at the self checkouts. Reviewers have addressed the lack of a restroom as an issue. For me, it was no big deal since the Charleston Place, across the street has a clean restroom. What has not been mentioned in reviews and is a big deal is from what my brother and I experienced. On the sidewalk in very close proximity to the store, teens were hustling palmetto roses outside the store. The one teen was aggressive and nasty harassing innocent people. The teen would scream curse and racist words that at the passers-by declining the roses. This is a major problem in the City Market area that brought a negative last impression to this Baby Target and Charleston. However, it didn't truly affect my rating. The way I see it, the Downtown Charleston Baby Target tucked in a retailscape of designer clothing and specialty stores, provides a much needed competitive retailer that sells the essentials that tourists and nearby residents need. Comparing it from the perspective of a suburban Target would be comparing apples to oranges, which I am not sure they even sell here. With all of this said, I am giving it "Four Stars."

You will need to leave the peninsula and go to a Target in Mt. Pleasant, West Ashley, or North Charleston. However, this Target has items folks NEED without having to leave downtown. A lot of folks live downtown and don't always have transportation, especially college students and tourists/vacationers. If the Carnival cruise ship is in port, you will see cruise employees here. This is a scaled down version of a larger Target , with very little clothes, electronics, and a smaller food section. It's mostly self-checkout but if you know what you need, like a drink or a small food item, it's cheaper than a restaurant and you can be in and out quickly. This building was once a Forever 21, and while a Target is "boring" for a King Street tenant, it was definitely needed downtown.
