I recently enrolled my daughter in the duckling class. It is a 6 week program with babies ages 6M to 18M. The class we were enrolled in was Wednesday's at 9 AM. My daughter usually wakes up around 8 AM and we live in Troy, so I knew it would be a challenge getting there by 9 AM (rush hour traffic, what a dumb time to start a baby group) but we were going to try it out anyways. The cost of the class is $200 dollars and honestly I am not sure what that money is used for. We attended one class (after a long drive in, 70 minutes because again rush hour traffic) and the class consisted of circle/free time while singing songs, a snack and then back to circle time to close out the class. The teacher is pleasant, the school is nice, but the class isn't worth the $200 dollar fee and wait in rush hour traffic to get there. Unfortunately we did not go back after the one class we attended. There are other groups at the public libraries in the surrounding cities that offer mommy and baby group classes. read more

The Detroit Waldorf School is the ideal school for children of all abilities and talents. My 2 sons attended the Detroit Waldorf School from the early childhood center (age 3) through graduation (8th grade). Both of my sons are intellectually gifted and both of my sons thrived at the school. My oldest son went on to graduate from high school with over a 3.8 GPA and was offered substantial academic scholarships to numerous top 100 liberal arts colleges. He is now a junior in college where he is the editor in chief of the newspaper, has been published in a nationally recognized sports publication, is active in a fraternity, plays intramural sports, and has a healthy social life all while maintaining a 3.7 GPA. My younger son is a sophomore in high school where he is excelling academically, playing sports, participating in Model UN and enjoying a healthy social life. The Detroit Waldorf School recognizes that all children are gifted in something. For some, like my children, it is academics. For other children the gift is in art, or music, or movement. The curriculum at the school is designed to encourage, value and nurture all of these gifts. Art, music and movement are an integral part of the curriculum and woven throughout every class. Children begin to play the recorder in 1st grade and take up the violin in 3rd grade. Art and handwork are recognized not just for what the children can create, but for the intellectual and spiritual growth that the activities promote. If you are looking for a school that combines superior academics with a culturally rich curriculum and a diverse student body, the Detroit Waldorf School is the place for your child. Perhaps the strongest recommendation I can give is that of the kids my older son graduated with.
