I got burned getting cash from a different bank chain then remembered that Deutsche Bank doesn't charge ATM fees. And they didn't! Next time I travel I'll get a Schwab account going, as they have zero fees all around. read more

This is for their ATM services only! The fees to withdraw money are so arbitrary in Barcelona that…read moreit's a matter of trial and error. Charges range anywhere from zero to 4,50€ to 5€. Happy to report that there are NO fees as of this writing (July 2017) to take out Euros. I can't stand the thought of paying 5€ just to use a freakin' ATM! That's a beer and a coffee right there.

So limit your cash spending for those needs only. Otherwise, I suggest use your credit cards at all time. You will save money on fees. Be mindful of any international credit card fees, and I don't recommend American Express as most merchants in Barcelona charges you, using AX. Use your Visa/MC instead.
