Whilst I have stayed here myself a few times in the past, it's worth noting a few things; 1. Christmas Day 2018 staff were delightful and very generous to using group - thank you! Free coffees and a few drinks, some chocolate and many smiles. We appreciate you and the happy hour from 4-6! 2. Basic rooms, but when you can pay all upfront and in advance at a rate if £45 including breakfast, in Ealing Broadway, a short trip on the Central Line into London, totally worth it. Amenities can be requested at the front desk, like hairdryer, extra towels etc. 3. The breakfasts aren't bad! And the Lavazza coffee machine is the best - just make sure you don't wait til breakfast is almost up. It may be "unlimited", but they're very quick to clear it away! 4. Great restaurants very nearby, and some great pubs too. A black cab from the train station is about £5 if you don't fancy waiting for an E2 or E8 that stops outside the hotel. 5. The police station is two doors down. If you're a light sleeper, sirens can be heard. But at least the response time would be seconds, right!? One final thing though... The light on the 5th floor (business floor) sensor doesn't actually work until you come all the way down the corridor. Kind of scary when it's night and dark, please fix it!

Wish I'd listened to my own self-imposed ban on staying at any Travelodge ever again and paid the extra. Things did not start off well as when I arrived, having walked about 15 mins from the Tube in the pouring rain, the self-service kiosk could not find my booking at all and I then had to wait in a queue for 10 minutes to check-in. Reception staff did not offer any explanation as to what the problem was. Room was OK - the reason I'd been suckered into staying was that the Ealing hotel had recently been refurbished with new beds, etc. Pillows were a bit soft and mean. Towels were good. Bathroom was clean but the toilet bowl was stained as if it hadn't been cleaned properly in a while - bit of a turn-off! No hairdryer in room though they gave me a loan of one at reception. There was not a plug near enough a mirror that the hairdryer reached to properly - I had to dry one side of my hair at one plug, and then move to another plug for the other side. A little road testing of rooms and amenities would have highlighted that problem. All in all, a lack of eye for detail. I wouldn't stay here again - I actually stayed at the Premier Inn for next 3 nights and regretted not having stayed there for this extra night, too. That'll teach me to try and save a buck!

The staff was very friendly and gave us some suggestions of places to eat and have coffee while we waited. The comfy room was SNUG but it had all of the amenities I needed. I wish the room had more accessible outlets. There was one on one side of the bed but not the other. We accidentally overloaded the circuit in our bedroom because of it by using a power strip from the single outlet and it shut down all of the power to the outlet and TV. The staff was quick to come up to take a look and fix the issue. They let us borrow their adapter. I did make use of the water provided at the front desk. The lobby seems to be a hang out place for studying and free wifi. There was an instance where sat down in the lobby momentarily just to figure out my destination and the staff immediately poured me some water. It's also close to a grocery store Overall I had a great experience and would recommend to anyone.

Definitely a tight squeeze, and there isn't much room to store your belongings, so you really have to forge a plan when it comes to the closet, working space (it's literally right next to your sink, which is literally at the foot of your bed). The shower head is a mere few feet away from the toilet, which is a little strange and reminds me a bit of a prison cell from a movie, but I've dealt with worse cramped space on a cruise ship. The inside of the hotel is definitely trendy and decorated chic. You can tell it's been remodeled/renovated in the past few years and staff try hard to maintain the clean feel of the hallways and stairwell. Daily cleaning leaves much to be desired. No sweeping will occur, nor wipe down of surfaces, nor replenishment of toiletries regardless of how long you stay. I'm certain if I asked for new shampoo and conditioner, I could have gotten them, but I leveraged my own supply instead. They basically make the bed and replace the towels and tea bags. Not much else happens. Pro-tip: If you're taking the underground from city center, and are looking to save £1 round trip, head to the Aldgate East station versus the Whitechapel station, as they straddle the border of Zone 1 and Zone 2, and are equidistant to the hotel--a quick .3-.4 mile walk. Personally, the walk to Aldgate East is more pleasant, as the walk to Whitechapel is more about the backroads. The area is gentrifying and a bit gritty, but I never felt unsafe walking about, or to and from the tube stations early morning or late at night. It isn't as central as say, Soho, but it's barely a mile north of Borough Market, just a quick walk to Tower Bridge, and not far from the Financial District region. Overall, I'd say I waffle on about a 3.5 star rating, but because my room hadn't been cleaned thoroughly, and was even skipped over one day, I'm defaulting to a 3. Would I return? Certainly since you get a lot of bang for your buck (ranges between $70-90 a day, including taxes and fees), and it's definitely not a lot of bucks for a trendy chic hotel slightly offset from Central London. And Christ, the front desk staff were consistently super nice, cruise boat level nice, scarily nice, regardless of the time of day. They work really hard, sometimes double shifts, and I often saw them covering shifts at the hotel restaurant as well.

Eventually, we managed to find The Whitechapel. Located on New Road in Whitechapel, it's a very central location - a 10 minute walk to Whitechapel station, or about 20 minutes to Shadwell, which is also connected to the DLR. Check in was easy, but not the friendliest. Arriving out of 'usual' hours, this was definitely the security rather than their front of house, but he did the job quickly. Check out was much brighter and interested in the quality of my stay. The hotel is very modern and feels bright and clean. My room was located on the corner of the building so I had a lovely large window - not exactly the greatest view, but it let it plenty of light in the morning! The bed was really comfortable, with pillows which you sink into, and the bathroom was small but functional. The bath is very deep, which is worth keeping in mind if travelling with anyone less abled or young children. There's a small mini bar which is well stocked with chocolate and drinks. Prices are pretty acceptable but there are plenty of small shops around if you don't want to buy from the hotel. There's also a Costa across the road and a restaurant at the bottom of the hotel if you need something a bit more substantial than a Snickers.

Nobu Hotel Shoreditch is located a couple minutes walk from a convenience store so I loaded up on breakfast items for my kids so we didn't have to spend a lot having breakfast at a restaurant which really helps while vacationing in London with a family. I am thrilled to have found 44 Curzon Street which are Serviced Apartments. A couple of blocks from the Tube, this is ideally located in Central London. Walking distance to Piccadilly, theaters and top notch restaurants, wine bars and scotch lounges. The apartment has a large living room with couches and dining table; kitchen w/refrigerator, larger bedroom and bathroom; the largest room I've had in London. Free Wi-Fi. Had to immediately get some work done, but it was a perfect environment. Finally, front desk was very friendly and great about arranging a car for us when it was time to return to the airport. We wish we could have stayed longer.

This hotel is listed as 'Gold Exclusives VIP' on Hotels.com. They are supposed to offer Gold Members free room upgrade, early check-in, late check-out and '1 free beverage per person for 2(once per stay).' Upon check-in, we informed the staff member of our Gold status. He made no acknowledgement, as if it meant nothing. We asked about early check-in, upgrades, etc. HE LIED. The hotel wasn't full from the night before. I looked at the hotel's own website at 11am and on 5pm. There were other rooms available in higher categories. Also, no drink was ever offered. We were suppose to stay at another part of London on our last night. Our plans changed and we saw both of Harry Potter plays. We chose this hotel because it is near The Palace Theatre. Because we weren't allowed early check-in, we only had 20 minutes to enjoy the pool between the two plays we were watching that day. We called Hotels.com and told them about not getting a room upgrade. They called the hotel and, of course, the hotel lied about not having anything else available. Our room cost almost $470 total for 1 night. The room we eventually got was indeed nice enough, but it wasn't an upgrade. This hotel charged our credit the day before we checked-in. They were suppose to charge us on our arrival. Also, they charged our account for the security deposit. They eventually refunded us this amount. However, because of currency fluctuations, we lost about $1. This is the first hotel that finalized a charge on security deposit. It's usually just a hold on our credit card. We will never stay at this place or any other hotels they own. They are liars. I cannot support a company that falsely advertises. Never again. Also, do yourself a favor, don't order their French toast at their restaurant, Brumus. It was dry and tough inside. Walk to NOPI instead. It's about .6 miles away on Warwick Street.

Yes it has all the fine touches of the Kit Kemp properties such as providing an absolutely cozy and inviting guest room with luxurious smells throughout (with help from their most amazing pillow mist and custom products in the bathroom). The GREATS include comfortable beds, furnishings and smart reactive televisions of a good size. Fluffy both large and small towels on a heat rack in the bathroom, powerful showers with plenty of hot water flowing and an ample amount of wall outlets and USB2 ports. The rooms are virtually sound proofed and it's just a lovely hotel chain overall. I loved the location being so close to Regents Park, Baker Street and across from Dorset Square Park - although not many rooms offer views of any sort. The Not So Greats at this property include much smaller rooms than the other Firmdales in London with some super small, lots of stairs with lifts not reaching most of the floors, although the rooms are sound proofed - they're apparently not for the continually running tube trains that must be below the hotel as the Marylebone Station is just one block away. This constant noise and slight rumbling ends around 11P and starts as early as 6A. It was a bit unnerving so keep that in mind if you want/need to sleep in at all. This property overall is super small - like extreme boutique which means it doesn't offer a lot of additional amenities - no doorman, no bell staff and small doorways to walk through. The Honor Bar room is tiny as compared to the other properties and I found guests sitting in the hallways taking calls or working on their laptops for some reason. Super odd. The room cost is on par with their other properties which is a bit obscene as you are definitely not getting the same level of overall property. That said, it's still a nice property and if you need to be on this side of London, you'll likely still enjoy your stay as long as you realize the points addressed above.

But I know that it will show up sooner or later on Yelp. I also know that it is possible that someone with less experience, love and affection for this place might write a review before me, and I think that would be bad. So here goes. The Dorset Square accounts for 90 percent of my relatively frequent stays in London. It is classified as a "small luxury hotels" and is located in Marylebone (pronounced mar*le*bon) which has really become a desirable neighborhood in the past decade. It's just down the street from Marylebone Station so getting around is very convenient. Baker Street Underground is just a couple of blocks away as well. There are 25 or so rooms on 4 floors - each is different. Some are very small, others are larger. All very distinct. Door knobs are in the center of the doors, floors creek. Showers are marble and chrome and the water pressure is outrageous - meaning huge, awesome, over the top. A steamy shower after a long day in London is pure luxury. The staff is friendly, but not over bearing. The sitting area is small and inviting. The Potting Shed Restaurant on the bottom floor with a bar is adequate. I have only ever eaten breakfast there and it is fine. The hotel has a history as it is right across the street from a historic cricket field that is now a garden area - guests of the hotel have access. There is a portrait in the reception area of a woman that stays with you over the years and when you go back, you remember. Anyone reading this who has been there will know what I mean. They used to rent apartments that are along the street just below ground level (skylights - don't worry). One of them was frequented by Roy Orbison and it had a grand piano. It was called the Roy Orbison Suite. I have spent many nights at this hotel and it, more than any other accommodation in the world feels like a home away from home with an uncanny familiarity whenever I return.
