Perched on top of a hill, this unassuming restaurant offers an incredible view. I made an early reservation, as I was hoping to go out and about after, so I got there close to when they opened and had the whole place to myself. They seated me on one of their balconies, with a beautiful view of the lake. I went right around sunset. The downside was that the mosquitos were out in full force. Luckily I had bug spray on me and doused myself. The food was fantastic. I wish I could have been there with more people to have shared other items. Going by myself made it hard to get multiple things as I only have so much room in my stomach. I got beef tenderloin which was very good and table side tiramasu, which was the highlight. There were so many things I wanted to try. This is definitely a cute little spot. The host joked about seating a party at George Clooney's regular table. I imagine this place gets fairly busy on weekends or later in the night, but earlier in the day a few of us had the whole restaurant to ourselves. Definitely worth a stop if you're in Lake Como.

Let me say it in advance: this review is mainly for tourists. I'm pretty sure locals know enough…read moreabout Ristorante Teatro from its long celebrated history as one of the most classy and refined culinary tradition in Varese. Ristorante Teatro is the right place if you are looking for an elegant, yet tastefully informal place where to get dinner in the historical downtown of Varese. I visit Italy once a year and each time, if I have a chance, I stop there for dinner with family. My favorite is the spaghetti all'astice, one of the dishes Ristorante Teatro is famous for. Last time I've been there I also enjoyed il polpo (..but I can't recall the name of the recipe it was served with..). Let the owner suggest you about the wine: I had one of the best Cabernet Sauvignon I've ever had a chance to taste in my entire life. Let me say it was served a bit too cold but that didn't affect the experience at all. During the summer the outside patio is the best way to enjoy the location - as far as it's not raining (...as it happened to us..). The quality of food, wine and service are worth every single penny, if not more, you pay for. You won't regret your experience there.

We also submitted our meal orders in advance, which made everything run smoothly. I had the pasta, and it was delicious. I also ordered the sea bass. The portion was smaller than what I'm used to in the United States, but that's pretty common throughout Europe. The portions tend to be lighter, which is probably one reason people eat differently than we do back home. Even though it wasn't a huge serving, the food was fresh, flavorful, and well prepared. One thing I really enjoyed was the wine service. The staff came around with different wines and took the time to explain their recommendations based on your taste preferences. It made the experience feel much more personal. The only part of the meal that fell a little short for me was dessert. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't memorable. I was hoping for something that really wowed me, but it was just okay. Overall, the service was very good, the restaurant handled our large group well, and the food was enjoyable. I'd definitely recommend it, especially if you're dining with a group. Just be sure to call ahead.

I liked they had coat check on that cold evening. Restaurant Kitchen is a 1 Michelin Star restaurant with Chef Andrea Castali. They offers two types of tasting menu that can both be paired with wine for about 100€ more. They also offer a la carte as well. They have a 7 course (170€) or a 5 course tasting (115€) menu to choose from. We opt for the 5 course since we had been eating but we did get wine as well. The entire experience was phenomenal. The menu said 5 courses but there were other bites in between. Everything was flavorful and made to perfection. Presentation was beautiful. There was not one course I did not enjoy. My favorite was their pigeon with foie gras. I also liked their pasta and lobster dish as well. We ended with their delicious dessert. Oh and I have to also mention their wines are amazing. It was quite the experience and we left satisfied and full. The service was top notch and pricing was good. Our bread basket with butter was never empty and drinks were alway filled. Our table kept getting cleaned. They really do their best here. It was the perfect spot to have my birthday dinner and I couldn't have been more happy. Thank you to the chef here and the entire staff for making such a memorable night. Restaurant Kitchen has the perfect spot for celebrations and intimate dates.

Examples: Sides for a steak were simply grilled zucchini and aubergines, no spices, no sauces. One of the desserts (it had a fancy name in the menu) was simply 2 scoops of caramel ice cream. Nothing else. You get more at the corner gelato shop. Another dish came with potato chips as a side. I couldn't believe my eyes. After finishing eating we waited for half an hour for our dishes to be cleared, and every step of the process, it was work to get the waiter's attention. We might as well not have existed. No smiles, no friendliness, dishes were served without care. I was worried that the above mentioned ice cream was going to land in my legs while the waiter was serving it. It seemed as if he just didn't care. Communications were curt. The interior decor is nice, but everything else was a massive letdown. The visit was a thoroughly unenjoyable experience. We went only once (obviously), so maybe this was an exceptionally bad performance, but judging from this one time, it's a tourist trap, and they're phoning it in. Stay away!
