This is the culinary walking tour of downtown shops that happens at the end of August…read more Don't have enough time and money to try 10 new restaurants for a full meal? ...then head downtown for Taste of Petaluma. You get 10 tasting tickets to try your choice of about 40 local restaurants (some are located downtown, others are from further out but are hosted in a downtown gallery or shop.) We are still frequenting restaurants that we discovered during at the Taste of Petaluma during our first summer back in the area.

Though I've lived here almost all my life this is the first time I've attended this event. Not…read morebecause I didn't want to go in the past, but merely because I could never find anyone who wanted to spend the money to go. I have heard nothing but good things about Taste of Petaluma. How can you go wrong with good food, fun, music and more! When we picked up our tickets at Helen Putnam Park (pre-ordered online for $40 which gives you 10 tastes whether it be food or drinks) we were told that this year they decided to have a trolley to "shuttle" people around & there were 3 main spots for pick up/drop off. This sounded like a good thing but during our walk we only saw the trolley once so not sure if it was any faster then walking. We were also told that the event was ending at 3:00pm (it started at 12:00pm) this year instead of 4:00pm. Honestly, I think that they should've kept that extra hour as we didn't even get through 1/3 of the places that were involved with the event, heck I still had 1 ticket left on my wrist band. Was a little disappointed in a few establishments as at 2:00pm one place only had one serving left and there was still an hour left to the event, at another place said the person BBQ'ing was ill so they were not serving, and several places we had to wait 10 minutes or longer as they ran out which eats up time for wanting to try as many places (new or old) that you want to try. I have to say this opened my eyes to some new restaurants that I didn't know existed or had only recently opened and I hadn't had the opportunity to try them out. Portions were not small by any means, they were adequete sizes so you were able to actually taste & enjoy the food. There were even full size slices of cheesecake, cupcakes (mini and standard size) , plates of fresh vegan salad (3 different types on one plate) and more all inside the Hotel Petaluma. So many places to try (new, old, established, etc.) but not enough time. With the shortened time restraint you really couldn't sit down and say enjoy a pint of Guinness at McGuire's or stop and listen to some of the music that was being played throughout the different event locations without cutting into the time if you really wanted to go to more then 5 places. Even that extra hour would've provided a little more time to walk (and that's a fast walk) and enjoy a few more places. I did enjoy myself this being my first time and I hope to be able to attend again next year. Maybe the event can start an hour earlier so that way restaurants don't have to worry about it cutting into their dinner hour time and patrons of Taste of Petaluma can have 4 hours to enjoy.

Thanks to Yelp, my hubby scored tickets to this year's 6th annual BBQ competition & festival. I…read moreheard from other attendees, this is the first year it was held at the Sonoma-Marin fairgrounds to accommodate the crowd and vendors. Apparently, it was held at a smaller venue previous years. There's a VIP hour at noon, and many parking spaces were taken by the time general admission arrived at 1pm; others had to find parking on the street. The new spacious venue is a good fit for this festival; however, there's always room for improvement. It was a bit disorganized once you walked onto this open field of confusion, not sure which vendors were serving what. I'd like to suggest a map showing the layout of food, restrooms, alcohol, beverages, etc. Many food vendors ran out of food i.e., ribs, sliders, etc. We were walking around lost and some vendors only took purchased tickets from the event (different color from grey ones)...hmmm? There was a tent selling purple tickets for those wanting more wine, beers, non-alcoholic beverages, food, etc. - bizarre. For my friends who spent over $50 pp for admission & several food tickets, they weren't going to buy more tickets. We did enjoy some mouthwatering BBQ from those who still had food left for us to try. There was no shade, so we sat underneath the cooking demonstration tent for the remainder of the event. The VIP Bull Pen area was also confusing, as many thought it was also for festival goers. It was great to see familiar faces from the wineries we've visited and learn about new ones (Comstock, Flora Springs, Kokomo, Shone Farm, Overland, Korbel, and many more). The weather was amazing...the sun was out, and there was a breeze the entire time! Pros: - new spacious fairgrounds to hold such an event - free parking - unlimited pours of wine & some beers Cons: - no map listing vendors, entertainment, restrooms, etc. - not many shaded areas - nowhere to sit & enjoy the day - no watering station - no recycle or compost bins - certain foods ran out quickly - no big signs http://winecountrybigq.com

Boy was I ever wrong; as I was heading out to the exit gates, I gifted my last 2 tickets. The samples were generous. This event brought some of the best pit masters in the country for a day of indulgence for meat lovers. In addition to the wide variety of barbecue sampling, there was also plenty of beer, wine and cider to help wash down the spicy sauces. A meat lover's festival would not be complete without a little bacon right?! So, to add to the experience, your admission also includes bacon desserts! And if you're anything like me, your tastebuds are not satisfied until you've had a sweet treat, so why not go for it! In addition, the venue provides live entertainment to add to the fun atmosphere of the event. My only complaints were that the seating was only available in front of the entertainment stage so tall pub tables would have been nice as it was sometimes difficult to balance trying to eat the sample and not spill your beverage; I heard multiple people say they wish they had another hand but in reality if you could just stand at a table top it would have made holding a plate and eating ribs a lot easier. Also, BBQ is messy, a hand washing station would have been a nice touch or even some wet wipes. Ha ha ha, so bring your own and be ready for a finger lickin' good time :)

There were a lot of chickens and cows though, both humans dressed in goofy attire/headgear and actual live animals. Yes, they offered pony rides, a petting zoo with farm animals charming visitors (especially a giant tortoise and lots of adorable bunnies), and an opportunity to interact with baby goats, calves, and more. There was plenty to see and do, including a cow chip throwing contest, cutest little chick contest, and two sets of live music entertainment on stage with a bit of audience seating available. The main parade was the highlight of the festival, with the 2026 theme "America's Birthday - Petaluma Style" celebrated with pride. Chicken and cow-themed floats and costumes engaging attendees, businesses and organizations such as Straus Family Creamery and Petalumans of Yesteryear representing, and awesome music and dance performed by high school marching bands as well as groups like Paquiyollotzin (Ballet Folklorico of Petaluma). And of course, cheerful crowds lining the sidewalks, mesmerized by the amusing characters and lovely artworks on display. To eat, we had a corn dog from Aunt Betty's food stand, a delicious lamb and beef gyro pita from Stockhome, and even got ourselves some jumbo black old fashioned licorice from The Licorice Guy. Clover Sonoma was giving away free samples of premium chocolate and vanilla ice cream all day, which I definitely took advantage of. And since that wasn't enough to satisfy my sweet tooth, I also got more cold and creamy chocolatey goodness from YaYa's Classic Soft Serve. It was a wonderful event altogether, and though I wish they actually had butter and eggs, I absolutely enjoyed the lively atmosphere and diverse offerings. Plus, there was no fee for entry and free street parking not too difficult to find nearby, though city parking garages were also a convenient option (with the 2-hour parking restriction waived for this special event day).

If you buy the tokens and don't use them all they will most certainly let you return them for a cash refund . They have a great children's play area with a jumpy and face painting , lots of little shady areas with tables fir 2 that are inntimate to eat, sip wine and have conversation . if you want to be right in the heart of everything they have lots of tables in the main food court too! Desserts a plenty inside the main hall and all kinds of coffee including authentic Greek Style . I didn't check out the BierGarten for a drink ( beer garden) however it looked like like a lot of other festival goers did I chose a falafel platter I think it was $8 or $10 and Rose Grenache wine $5 nice and refreshing Lots of Parking, shade and lightning; reasonable food and drink prices, ice cream bars and water were a $1- that combination of ammenaties was what made me give 5 stars; as so many festivals do not have that down and believe me they should; if they want people to stay . what a fun place to gather with friends; we will be back next year for sure !

We found many foods that aren't even to be found in any of the restaurants here. The ethnic entertainment was also very enjoyable. In one building there was the 'dessert pavillion' with scores of homemade baked goods to eat there or take home. Outdoors, they even had a good selection of regional microbrews to slake your thirst on a hot summer day, at reasonable prices, instead of inflated event prices. We tried another pseudo mediterranean food fest this summer in rohnert park, but it was a big nothing, even after a decade, so we turned around & left. It didn't even compare to the Glendi Food Fest. Nothing does.
