Basic European hostel on the cheap!
Diagonal House was a lifesaver when it came to my predicament. I was about to couchsurf with a local, but last minute Easter plans meant that I was suddenly homeless for a night in Barcelona. Luckily, Diagonal House came through to offer a very inexpensive bed space .
The hostel is located on the second floor of an old Spanish building with an elevator that looked like it had worked at some point. I was able to snag a deal for €8 in a 10-person mixed dorm, which comes with a mini locker, bedding, and lamp for your bedpost. At such a deal, there isn't much to expect from this hostel.
Ambience wise, it really felt like a place to just go and sleep. Other hostels are more event-friendly with common spaces made to engage in conversation. While Diagonal offers spaces for this, I personally wasn't able to meet a lot of folks during my stay. The layout is not the most conducive to meeting others, but it's not impossible.
Overall, I was satisfied with Diagonal House. It gave a roof over my head for the night, and the service was very friendly. If you're looking for that cheap no-frills kind of hostel, this is the place ofr you. read more
