I got a diamond ring that was brand new as a gift... and I didn't need the ring but I really need the money from it. The retail value is around 4k. It's was a .75 ctw 7 stone Round diamond wedding or anniversary band with 14k white gold. I have taken it to a couple different places in Columbia. I was thinking I could get 1-3k for it since it was in mint condition. I took it to Hurst fine Diamond Cash for Gold sale... they only offered 200... I took it to the Diamond Bank on 9th Street... they only offered 200... I talked to Tiger Pawn on the phone and they didn't think they could do much better than 200. I have learned a lot about the ridiculousness of the jewelry price mark up at retailers and decided I would rather pinch pennies and eat bread and water for a while that hand over 4 thousand dollars to any greedy retailer. The whole business seemed very shady to me there was only 1 staff person there ... they had to buzz you in so that you could get in the door.. it felt like I was in lock down.
