    The Martinez Firm

    The Martinez Firm

Hector is a knowledgeable, experienced, and professional attorney. Our son was facing a felony…read moretraffic violation. Hector Martinez (in collaboration with Rick Perez) was the third firm we hired in our pursuit for legal representation. His initial attorney although knowledgeable, personable, professional, and solid was not familiar with the inner workings of Lake County. He was also out of area making it difficult to coordinate meetings with our son. It became apparent we needed to hire a well networked attorney in the immediate area with a proven track record. The second law firm was everything you would want in an attorney ...... on paper. Superb marketing skills, humble beginnings, a hidden gem. A single visit with our son had our family running for the hills. From our very first conversation Hector was a breath of fresh air. He was knowledgeable, familiar, well networked, and patient. There is a method to his madness even if it wasn't revealed till the very end. I will say there were challenges in communication stemming from COVID which resulted in a lapse in communication for weeks at a time and delayed meetings. I truly believe without these unforeseen medical emergencies we would have had an exceptional experience. With that being said our son walked away with the minimum possible sentence. Without question if you need an attorney who is familiar with Lake County ... Hector Martinez and Rick Perez are hands down the best of the best. We paid a flat rate and although Hector and Rick were on the higher end ... private legal council is an investment. His rate is conducive to his experience and time. If you want an attorney who is familiar with Lake County, knowledgeable, thinks outside of the box, and well networked this is the firm for you!

I would give a zero star rating if possible…read more I asked Jeff Black to help me with a OSHA death case for my father in 2014. He accepted the case and signed the paperwork along side me in his office. He claimed with his experience that the case would go to trial between 6-9 months. He also told me that I would not see the inside of a courtroom on such a touchy subject. Which I did not have to do, due to legal negligence. At my fathers funeral, I was approached by a lawyer who handed me a card to render his services. I declined, thinking that I was going through enough with the unexpected death of my father. I was later informed by family and the iron workers union that I had no choice but to hire a lawyer. I chose Jeff Black because he was a member of the community I grew up in. He was a baseball coach along side my father and knew myself and younger brother. It felt like I'd be in good hands when it came to this difficult case. After 4 plus months of seeking answers with his consul, I was finding it difficult to get any answers. I had to go to the hospital to retrieve my fathers death records on my own. Walking through the building was traumatic in and of itself. I retrieved the additional birth/death certificates myself to aid in moving the case along faster. After 5 or 6 months of this he, sublets my case out to a lawyer in Cleveland. The reason for outsourcing was because he waited too long to file and the best case scenario was to file torte. I was not privy enough to be afforded this information early enough to do anything about it. our case was at the mercy of OSHA and lasted 3 years. This was pre covid so I'd like to know why. When it all ended I was happy with his too late referral. His associate from another law firm helped me more and showed more compassion for my case than Jeff Black could fathom. That fit me fine and I was happy to carry on with my life. 2015: my ex ( who had not paid child support) came at me for full (temporary) custody. He did this because he knew I was seeing someone else. I, once again, asked Jeff for help. He told me that it was a conflict of interest and could not represent me. No referral this time. My ex did receive a referr from Carla H at his firm. Mind you, the case with my fathers death was still not resolved. She threatened/bullied me in the same office I came to sign off on my fathers death case. It was almost instantly denied by the lake county courts. The final nail in the coffin was that she prepped for a trial and not a pretrial. The judge sent them away with option for negotiations. I declined paid an outside lawyer $2,000 while still mourning the death of my father. 2020: My ex again applied for temporary custody. He was awarded it this time because of affidavits signed by family members that haven't seen our son in years. This was a successful attempt to never have to pay child support. Here we are 7 years later and Jeff is offering "free" legal advice to my adversary. My lawyer and the GAL threatened to raise conflict. The case never went to trial because the judge thought it wasn't worth while. The documents I currently have show $140,000 in excess UNDOCUMENTED income for the ex. It also shows that this "lawyer" has consistently sketchy business practices and is not a family man. please do yourself a favor and avoid this business at all costs. I found better help and so can you.
