We arrived pretty early so it wasn't crowded at the entrance, and my friend mentioned it could be problematic when crowded, so we were extra cautious. The place wasn't too crowded yet so we were able to put our coats in the garderobe downstairs, grab a beer and pick a good place before everyone squeeze in. Picked a nice spot with a great view upstairs, it was a really good decision (concert-wise). About an hour later the concert started- the sound wasn't so amazing for the two warm up bands but the waiting time between each one wasn't too long so that's a good thing. A while after - Alt J came, I'll save you the details (amazing! Giving them a 100 stars) because it's not very relevant at the moment- and we tried to get down the stairs towards the ground level- disaster! So many people, with guards blocking the staircases and letting only a few people at a time to go downstairs, it took forever! And just when we thought we were done - don't forget there's another staircase for the coats, and if coming down from upstairs was hard... So getting our coats was twice as tough. This is a pretty small place and it took us about an hour to leave, it was not fun. At least the concert was worth it.

Tonight, it was also great to have an American band perform, so that we could understand what they were singing! Absolutely great acoustic as well. Service was very good. Everyone was kind, and I couldn't have asked for more. Ambience was the perfect balance of cozy and exclusive with fun and dynamic. Given the proximity between the audience and the stage, everything felt very intimate too. Highly recommend it if you're looking for a great jazz experience at a reasonable price!

Consequently you look, hear, see, watch, feel, dance, move, play or whatever people do while attending a concert. Ideal space for a crowd of approximately 1500 people or a bit more and everything a good gig needs: sound, vision, technics. It is clear that you won't suppose stadium rock bands at that place but more musicians who prefer to get in touch (literally) with their fans. Nice fave concert hall. The best way to describe the venue is like British venues, but better. Everything is so much more efficient, there's an excellent amount of space and the food options blow the Barras out the water. Crepes and cocktails? I'm sold! It wasn't ridiculously overpriced like some venues can be, either. There wasn't a great amount of seating available for an unreserved gig, which isn't the best when you've been travelling on your feet all day, however it was really well ventilated and the amount of space meant you didn't feel suffocated despite it being sold out. The tiered standing pretty much guarantees a decent view, which is really useful. If all venues in Germany are like Huxleys, I think I'll be visiting more in the future!

I have been to many outdoor concert arenas all over the world but none as unique as Waldbuhne. What…read moremakes Waldbuhne stand out is that even though the arena seats 23000+ people all the seats have great sight lines and viewing angles due to the incredible steepness of the stairs and arena. The venue was built in the 1930's and I doubt it would be legal to build today. We were lucky to attend the final show of the Depeche Mode Spirit Tour here on July 25th and it was fabulous. Great sound that is pushed directly at you (angle of the arena) and there was plenty of light shows during the concert. The only drawback to Waldbuhne is the stage is on the smaller side so a performer such as Dave Gahan of DM was a bit more limited in his dance and moves compared to other similar arenas. Food, drinks and toilets are all on the "mid level" of the arena and pretty easy to get to. The crowd was pumped and going crazy the entire concert as DM have a storied history in Berlin (recorded music here) and this was the final concert of a very long tour. Waldbuhne was a great place to see a concert and I would gladly come again in the future.

Easy to get to on the S-Bahn, right next to the Olympic stadium. The Berlin Philharmonic does a concert there at the end of the year, which was the event I attended. The audiences are mature, quiet, and orderly, much quieter outside than any concert I have been to in the US. I wish I could go every year! Long lines for food but great pretzels, beer, and snacks.

The four stars mainly point to the lighting/stage setup, my memories of the concert, and the fact that BIG names come here, so therefore it obviously garners some respect for being able to handle the capacity and show requirements. I will also say that being out in the foresty area with greenery and fresh air was a welcome atmosphere coming from the big city of Berlin. Just an overall great location and vibe here. RECOMMENDED, see if your favorite band is playing here, and come early to grab yourself a good seat!!!!

As it turned out, it was the best thing I've ever done. This venue is fantastic. Great stage, great sound, brilliant seating with a perfect view of the stage (I've injured my foot, so that's where I should have been, of course I was in the crowd moshing away). What struck me was the friendliness. Everyone is friendly. You know when you go to an outdoor gig in the UK and the queue for the bar is a mile long? It doesn't happen here. They don't care about the drinking. They've also got a nifty little system where you pay a deposit for the glass. That'll stop you throwing them about the place. Very clever. I have no idea what this place is used for in Winter, but if you get the chance to go hear, do. Not just to see wonderful aging rockbands, but to see anyone. Best gig I've ever been to.

Of all the Berlin venues I've experienced, thus far, Astra ranks the lowest…read more It is, of course, a large venue that works well for certain concert experiences, but it's not what I would consider welcoming or inviting. The main issues I have with Astra are the mediocre acoustics, the disadvantageous layout (it's impossible to see anything if you're not in front), and the overall dirtiness of the place. Additionally, its location is right on the corner of Revaler and Warschauer = total foot-traffic clusterfuck. No thanks. One thing I do like is the security guardrail up front, which makes shooting photography at well-attended shows a breeze. But that aside, there aren't many redeeming qualities about this place.

Once you get in Theres a smokers zone which smells like hell, and even when it's not wide open you can smell it when you pass by. Inside there were really long lines at the bar but at least the whole area was smoke free. We got ourselves a beer and went to the main hall. So the main hall, Yep - where the stage is. Contained pretty much nothing, all the facilities are in the previous hall. There are 2 large columns pretty close to the stage which kinda block the view if you're planning to stand somewhere on the side. In addition to that the stage is pretty low so I had to stand on the tip of my toes to see something most of the show (I'm not short), it wasn't too comfortable for me and I'm sure the short girls behind didn't have a really good time either - maybe that's why they pushed me in order to get forward. It's a non smoking zone and of course people ignore it completely and light up an occasional cigarette with nobody to tell them to put it off. On the way out we chose to leave a little before the last song so things went a little smoother, but lines did pile up after we left. Some good things- sounds and lightning were great, and the show itself was pretty awesome with some cool vibes an mostly nice people. I'll probably go again if one of my favorite artists will came but I'm definitely not a big fan of this place.

They organize a lot of festivals and other cultural events,…read moremany of which are related to Latin America (e.g. the Brazilian film festival that takes place every year). Sometimes they also organize conferences. The entrance fee is never too high, generally you can afford it. The building has a lot of open space and is quite tranquil. I love the lighting: it's light inside but not too light, it has this cosy atmosphere. They have a restaurant and the whole thing is situated on the river, next to the Tierpark with rabbits hooping around. It's really a great place to visit.
