Little can be done to make the preparation and actual event more palatable, but at least it can be simplified and made more humane with understanding of the emotional aspects of the test, and the physical challenges associated with drinking copious amounts of vile tasting fluids, a mandatory clear liquid diet for 36 hours before the operation, and the totally unpleasant process of emptying the lower gastrointestinal tract. Ugh! Gastroenterology Group at St. Mary Medical Center does it as well as possible. They invite you to their office weeks in advance to review the process in detail. Many pages of easy to understand instructions are provided. They record insurance information, and even offer samples of the preparation meds if the patient lacks coverage for this cost. On the designated day, when the effect of starvation and voiding is at max effect, their staff is courteous and compassionate in getting the patient ready for general anesthesia and the procedure itself. Everyone was skilled, patient and trained in low key interaction. From getting into those damn surgical gowns, to setting the intravenous lines in the arm, to nestling the pillow comfortably under the head/neck as you fall asleep, to the gentle wake up back in your personal space with juice and crackers, the flow is smooth and relaxed. That Dr. Barash advised I would likely have to return in five years for another scope almost seemed an afterthought.

I did not hear from them so at 4:32 I called them. I was rudely told they are extremely busy and someone will call when they have the time. Hmm. One week later and still no call. I guess I will have to try and find another doctor or go back to the ER if I continue to have problems with my gall bladder. Another failure with this practice.

I've had UC for a decade now and have had many dealings with both of these practices separately and…read morenow together since the merge. Overall if you have GI problems and live in Lancaster there's no other big practice with major hospital affiliation that can provide the services they can. I've had some good doctors over the years Dr Allegreti being my personal favorite. Dr Morgan is young and very approachable and tends to care for alot of female patients. Dr Rosenburg can be dry and lacking personality but is the go to for his extensive knowledge of UC. With the merge some things have changed for the worst.....it's no longer an easy process to get a nurse on the phone or get a message to the office staff. In fact it takes forever, 20 minutes or so as of my last three calls, to reach anyone live. The phone system leaves alot to be desired. There's menu after menu, que after que, and at times you will feel like it's not working properly. Hang in there, eventually someone live will answer! On the plus side they have a few locations and if your doctor calls for you will get you in somewhere quickier, although it might not be your location of choice. if you have an urgent situation and need to see a doctor and call on your own - good luck! You're likely to get booked two months out regardless of the circumstance. At RGAL they were prompt with sending out reminders for bloodwork and follow up. Lancaster GI not so much, and as for the merge - that's to be determined. It's always best to be hands on with your healthcare and keep your own calendars especially if you have a chronic condition. Lancaster GI used to offer me medication samples and savings cards - but only if I asked. If you are on a maintenance medication it pays to ask. I once had a pharmaceutical card pay for my medication co pays for two years! That alone saved me thousands. Also if you have UC like myself do inquire about the new generic medication that recently came out for this condition. it's saved me a ton of money vs name brand. Again you must ask or it won't be offered. For female patients you now have the option of being seen exclusively in the womans & babies office. Not sure what the advantage is, especially since the main office is next door, but it is a smaller, more intimate setting. Moral of story with this and any medical practice these days is you'll have to take more control of your health. Be vigilant. Be organized. Keep records. Ask questions. Make phone calls. Don't be docile and sit back and let them totally mange your health. Healthcare is a business that needs to make a profit.

Whoa!! What's with these bad reviews??? I had a screening today and I arrived bright and early at 6:45 am. The staff was AMAZING!!! Everyone from the front desk, the nurse ugh I'm so sorry I have forgotten her name but she was brunette and was working 12/21 early morning, sweet Emily, the attending nurse anesthesiologist, Dr Basile, and Dr Rock who handled my screening. The first person I encountered was a kind lady who guided me through the paperwork which they've really simplified. Another man was reporting to work and he was jovial and welcomed us too with a big friendly hello. He had a pony tail and I didn't encounter him after that during my visit. There is so much positive energy in the center it's bouncing off the walls and the staff is top notch and I do mean everyone. No room for negativity! I was scared to death because this was my first colonoscopy. Everyone was so kind, especially Vicki she was so reassuring to me and I really needed that. She was a kind friendly warm face who reassured me and I was thankful. The hardest part was being apprehensive about the procedure. Once I was wheeled into the endoscopy suite I fell asleep and it was all over. I woke up thinking I was at home. I was discharged quickly after. I was surprised at how fast I was on my way home. My only complaint was the coffee lol! It could strip paint of the walls . Hey though your health is what they're concerned with and not a vanilla cappa latte "bull shit" drink - in the words of the fabulous Larry David. Please give this worthy group a try if you need your screening. Get your screening it could SAVE YOUR LIFE!! You're WORTH IT!! This group is saving lives every day!! My husband has had several drs at the same group and we are highly pleased. Still time to get your screening before 12/31! Maybe- if there are appointments available. Good Luck and Godspeed. You have to be your own health care advocate.

Unfortunately many people are reluctant to have these tests - even if they have good insurance. See your physician to determine your risk and get the necessary exams. Once you know you need a colonoscopy, use your insurance tools to understand the range of pricing across providers - it can be substantial. I've had 2 diagnostic colonoscopies at Bux-Mont gastroenterology associates and the endoscopy center over the last five years. In both cases, the experience was outstanding. The staff is effective and efficient. They take the time to explain the procedures, help you understand what your insurance covers, and works with you to select the best options. The staff is kind and caring. The office is efficient. Their offices prescribe the most current 'preps' were gentle but effective; the staff makes sure you understand the steps in advance. I've had procedures with two different physicians - Dr. Kearney and Dr. Burke and they were both excellent. If you live in Bux-Mont's service area, I highly recommend you consider them for your diagnostic procedures! You'll be glad you did. In both of my exams, they found and took care of a few things that shouldn't be there - and if I had not been on top of this - I could be a statistic. Don't become one yourself. Talk to your physician...and then get over to Bux-Mont Gasteroenterology if you need services they provide!
