The school helped me form good study habits, encouraged me to achieve my highest potential, and provided me with a supportive community. ACS gave me the foundation I needed to get into a great private high school and eventually excel in college. The relationships I established at ACS have survived the test of time. I am still friends with many of the kids I went to 1st grade with! One of the most important things ACS taught me was to not fear my teachers. I quickly learned how much teachers want to help, and how much they can help. I loved my teachers, many of whom are still there today. Clearly, they love what they do. Asheville has some wonderful Public schools, but Asheville Catholic is a fantastic alternative for parents seeking more than just a school. ACS offers a vibrant, nurturing community.

For the past several…read moreweeks I have joined three or four other men volunteering to help a male third grade teacher at Black Mountain Primary School teach chess to about 30 boys and girls.The teacher has done the same at another school. We begin after school each Monday at 2:40 p.m. and stay till about 3:30. I am told that the school has seven third grades and the children learning to play chess come from all seven classrooms. My first impressions of the school were very favorable and remain so. All the school children whom I have observed are very well behaved, notably un-noisy, as they march in lines to leave school. The interior of the one-storey building appears to be octogonal and is in itself a lesson in geography. The library is large and without walls. The cafeteria also is large and immaculately clean. The overall impression is: this school is spacious, uncramped, brightly lighted, friendly. I have seen children at the end of our chess sessions escorted by our third grade teacher sponsor to the back parking lot to be picked up by parents. If after ten minutes teachers do not appear, back he brings the boys and girls to a central area to wait for their parent(s). The children's safety is clearly a priority. The principal is much in evidence and seems a benevolent presence. The youngsters themselves learning the elements of chess are a joy to teach. They are eager, bright, full of questions. Bottom line: my eight grandchildren live either in South Carolina or Dallas. The former six are home-schooled, the latter attend a Catholic parochial school. My earlier similar adult experience with American public schools was in Detroit -- a war zone. The in-depth anatomy goes hand in hand with technical (hands-on) massage coursework as well as introductions to various modalities of massage, business, ethics, law-everything that is required by the board. As a massage therapist if you're not willing to learn anatomy, you aren't dedicated to the profession, period. I got everything I wanted and more out of a massage school education, and I graduated as a confident and competent body worker and didn't need extra prep for the MBLEX because of their great coursework. I attended the most recent…read moreneuromuscular therapy workshop for treating head and neck pain and the first day was lecture, a very engaging and fun class jam packed with information. The second day, humorously, I woke up doubled over in a migraine on the day of the hands-on portion and I tried to overcome it and make it to class but I absolutely could not. I just assumed that I would have to retake it the next round and resigned myself to staying home... instead I received a compassionate email with well wishes and inquiring about when to make up the hours! I thought that was very nice and demonstrates a lot of humanity ~ excited to continue my NMT education
