She was so sad when school ended in May, and she found out she had to wait 3 months to go back. There is a really great group of families that go here, many of them have had multiple kids go through the program here. I can't recommend them highly enough, they'd get 10 stars if I could.

My oldest son was fine without preschool and I was able to teach him a lot at home until he went to kindergarten. My middle son, however, was unwilling to learn from me. He has a lot of energy and I felt a preschool would be really good for him. So when we moved to Hendersonville I began researching preschools and narrowed it down to 3 different preschools where I was willing to send my son. Two out of the three schools would not take my son because he was not potty trained and was 3 years old. Discouraged, I called Fran at Creative Beginnings and asked if they had any openings in their 3-year old classroom. When she said they did, I anxiously asked if they accept children who are not potty trained. She said that they sure did. I was surprised and excited. I went straight to the church to pick up a registration packet. Upon meeting my son's teachers at the orientation, I was sure that we had ended up in the right school for us. His teachers are so kind, personable, and they LOVE the kids. They really genuinely love my son. The activities are wonderful. Every month I have a calendar of what they'll be doing each day all the way down to which day they'll be finger painting and working with scissors. My son comes home with projects and new songs all the time. He has blossomed so much this year. The teachers are encouraging and even helped him to potty train with lots of love and encouragement and not just for my son! I needed their love and encouragement too. When he finally started going on the toilet over winter break he insisted on calling his teachers to let them know and they praised him over the phone. Every day my son tells me that Miss Linda and Miss Carolyn love him. And I know that they do too! I cannot say enough positive things about this preschool. I highly highly recommend to anyone!

Not just a place, but a place in your heart, the staff and counselors are extremely knowledgeable and well trained. After all, the camp has been around since 1933. Two and three week camping packages, Kate has once again signed up for the 3 week program. Building friendships from past years, my daughter has kept in contact with several of her fellow campers and counselors. She looks forward to camp, but not the day her 7 year old sister joins her. Sort of personal, I'm of the belief that this is something Kate want to "do alone" without pesky parents or siblings around. The Camp Ton A Wandah summer program provides campers several dozen activities such as horseback riding, zip lining, fine arts and crafts, performing arts, dance, volleyball, basketball, softball, lacrosse, soccer, tennis, games, archery, riflery, rock climbing, high ropes, swimming, kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding, hiking, backpacking, field trips and much more. A tie to nature and a deep respect for the Native Americans who originally inhabited the Blue Ridge mountains are a Camp Ton-A-Wandah inspiration behind an alliance of the "three tribes - Cherokee, Navajo and Mohawk. Handed down from generation to generation, the three tribes are among the camps oldest and most revered traditions. Kate is proud to be a "Mohawk" at Ton-A-Wandah. Care packages and birthday parties are a plus. Parents can order "care packages" from several places in Hendersonville or plan a cabin "birthday party" for all to enjoy. Kate reports 5 stars for Camp Ton-A-Wandah. /s/ William E. Lewis Jr. Vero Beach, Florida

But if you go at other times, you can take self-guided tours of the outside buildings, trails, and see the animals. There are QR codes to scan as you go along. The Farm and properties are owned by the Henderson County Public School System. When you arrive, there is free parking in the parking lot. I took the guided tour as I enjoy seeing the architecture of older buildings so when I discovered this property, I had to check it out. I had a private tour. The house was built in 1876. The house took four years to build. Bricks were made of clay from the French Broad River. The bricks did not all look the same so a stucco layer was added on top and white lines painted to make it look like normal bricks. The house has a lot of original furniture and mementos. The woodwork inside is high quality. The house and property are well cared for and in great condition. There are 7 fireplaces, and each has a unique mantle and beautiful cabinetry. The kitchen was once separate from the house, but it was moved at some point to become part of the house. The property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The house was used as a boarding house, and folks would come spend their summers year after year. A boarding house was added to the property in 1923 and is now the home of Heritage Weavers and Fiber Artists. They were having a class while I was there. When Vernon & Leander died, they left the property to Henderson County Public Schools. They wanted and hoped that the property would educate others. The brothers are said to have been ahead of their time and used alternative farming and energy. The Historic Johnson Farm is doing exactly what the brothers had hoped and is a great addition to Henersonville, whether you want to tour the farm or walk the trails and see the animals.
