Expect lots of radiant orange nacho cheese. No queso fresco, or even Tex Mex queso. For what it is, It's not bad, and will probably satisfy an inebriated burrito craving, but pales in comparison to even Midwestern Mexican-American joints. Also the menu is rather slim, just burritos and quesadillas and mostly chicken options. I have observed a lot of people coming in to just get chips and guac, so maybe I'll do a follow up with that later. However we are in Germany, so I give it 3 stars given its location. If you're about to fly to the States or Mexico, I think you're better off waiting to scratch that itch when you get there!

So up against that, I sometimes am disappointed by the Mexican food I get at home in the US, far closer to Mexico than Germany. I haven't eaten a whole lot of Mexican food outside of North America, but some of the most bland I've ever had has been on another continent. Enchilada is not that kind of Mexican restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised by the place. We went there one night for dinner. We arrived somewhat late, but they were still open and there were several tables occupied by people eating. The restaurant seemed to be a fairly popular place to hang out on the weeknight we were there. As is often the case, parking was difficult, but we lucked out and got a space across the street. They had a fair selection of local beers and a pretty extensive menu. I got an enchilada platter which included two enchiladas, Mexican rice, a few chips and a little salad. The enchiladas came with a little chili on them, unusual, but it worked. My meal tasted good, and had a good flavor to it. My wife got a plate of nachos which turned out to be absolutely massive, but very good and loaded with toppings. Overall, we liked this place. Their Mexican food is quite good and though I have had better closer to Mexico, I think it does the cuisine justice. If I were in the area, I would go here again.

The pinnacle of quality being Bay Area Burrito company in Cologne. "Enchilada" however was a throwback to the old days of bizarre local interpretations of taqueria food. I got the burrito. It was strange. Massive, room m-temperature, thick, dry yet chewy whole wheat tortilla. Hardly any filling. The tortilla dominated the experience. "What the heck was that" is all that could come to mind after completion. Side chips (extra charge) were tough and thick. Pico de Gallo and guacamole were OK. The former with a consistency of sour cream. The orange "hot" salsa was extremely sweet with a mucous-like mouthfeel. This place seems to be more of a bar than a restaurant. Tacos may be a better choice. Service was excellent.

The best part of the whole affair was the Crew Republic Pale Ale to wash it all down with. Second best part was the black and white photo hanging on the wall of SF showing Coit Tower, the church in Wash. Square Park, and, of course, the GGB with obligatory fog blanket in the background. The service was friendly as well and the dude who took our order was patient with us first-timers as we figured out the card ordering system. I would give the place 3.5 stars but because of the awesome sauces on the tables I round it up to 4 (I regret not having taken the regular burrito with the tortilla to dip it into the sauces).

In the U.S., it usually comes from a soda gun that might, or might not be clean, and is always flat. My burger was cooked medium, with a bit of pink, just the way I like it. The fries were soft in the middle with a slight crunch to them, with flaky salt. My wife's salad had a bit too much dressing for her tastes but I thought it was good. We have started sharing meals this way, as our appetites are smaller now that we are getting a bit older.

For my first time here I tried their "Cheese Explosion Burger". This monster lives up to its name! I forget how many cheeses this thing has because quite frankly I never heard of some of them before. But rather than ketchup, mayo, or some special dressing...this burger comes with nacho cheese as its condiment. Again the name: Cheese Explosion. As you can see from my photo it is also garnished with two kinds of fried cheese skewered to the top bun. Cheese Explosion. At the risk of stating the obvious: this is a burger for folks who love cheese. Also, if you don't like pink in your burger...make sure to tell them. They serve all their burgers medium.
