As delicous as I remember from the California location, I swung by here for a quick lunch across the street from my hotel. I absolutely adore dtf's delicate yet flavorful xiaolongbao. Today I ordered the pork soup dumplings as well as tried the spicy seafood dumplings. It was a great meal that hits just the right spot for a lover of dumplings in general.

Went to try this store having tried many including the original in Taiwan. At 2pm I still had to wait for a single seat. Popular! I'm not sure about the robots. Yes a nice quirky touch and good for kids but in the end they still serve you the dishes. Talking to le of the servers he mentioned that they still serve although the robot brings it close to the table. I can see that this is important. It make such. Difference with someone bringing you the plate vs a non descript robot without eyes. This no really why I have them one less star really. The food (小籠包) and the prawn dumplings and the green beans. We're excellent. Quality you would expect and fast service. Freshly made. They really have the system and consistency set up to roll this out globally. You can't buy recommend them. Although typically Melbourne? I'm not sure....

Great food, service is way too effective. no atmosphere at all... probably the best dumplings I've ever had but the dishes came out all at once and we were hushed to eat them very fast. Even my dessert which I even told to be served after dinner, came when I was still in the middle of eating. (We've spent there just 30 min...never had a faster meal than this one) So, 5 Stars for the really tasty food, (We had prawn dumplings, seafood dumplings, Prawn vermicelli soup, Fried Tofu, Vegetable Buns and the Choco lava bun. The prawns are very fresh and the dumplings delicious.... But well because of the rush and everything, the dining experience was not nice. Next time I go I will just order one food after another XD And well it's better than to wait for your food I guess... If you are curious and you love dumplings give it a try!

The restaurant is huge and is located inside a giant mall complex. Everything about the place was modern and clean. I tried the XLB, which was consistent and juicy like other establishments in California. I enjoyed pairing it with the fresh ginger, vinegar, and soy sauce. The spicy vegetable and pork wontons were delicious! It was very flavorful and aromatic. The dan dan noodles were disgusting and tasted like noodles drenched in peanut butter sauce. I basically created a hybrid dish by combining the spicy vegetable and pork wonton with it, which made it somewhat more appetizing and edible. Customer service was somewhat disappointing. I was the first one there, but was seated third. The hostess did not acknowledge my presence until I flagged her down. The same thing happened when I was ordering food. I also also had to ask for my water refill.

My sister and I came here for lunch. She wanted to try Din Tai Fung as we do not have a location in Toronto, Canada. We arrived at 1pm and there was no line up. Ordering here is pretty standard, mark off items you want on the provided sheet and then hand it to the server. We ordered pork xiao long bao, 1 truffle xiao long bao, Noodles with minced pork and a strawberry soda. Our food came pretty quickly. The noodles were tasty and had a nice bounce to it. I liked that it was seasoned perfectly and not salty. The pork dumplings were sooo good. The broth wasn't greasy and there was a good ratio between the dumpling wrapper and filling. As for the truffle dumpling, I've never had truffles before so I wasn't sure what to expect, but as soon as I bit into it, I realized it was the best dumpling I've ever eaten. They are so good but a bit pricey at $5 per dumpling, my stomach wanted more but my wallet didn't lol. Service was minimal but pretty attentive. The servers would clear our empty plates soon after we finished a dish. Overall it was a good experience, the dumplings were really good. If had a location in Toronto, I'd definitely go more often.

Fried & breaded mango & shrimp & mayo thingy was a special item (limited run) It was okay. Mango was nice.

I prefer the Los Angeles locations over this one - yeah I said it! The XLB had more of the crab "mustard" flavor; dunno if this is due to a difference in regional palette. Not as repugnant as Joe's Shanghai in NYC at least. It's more of a madhouse. But a large location. Expect a wait. Service is a bit more gruff if you enjoy that authentic vibe.

Love the private rooms - there is a $500 minimum order requirement to get a room, worth it if you have a big party

I'm biased, I love Din Tai Fung. I've eaten at DTF's around the world. I was super excited when this one opened in Melbourne in 2015. DTF is a casual family friendly Taiwanese dumpling restaurant chain with very high preparation standards. DTF really are the gold standard for Xia Long Baos. They precision assemble their XLBs better than any other place I have tried. The colored XLB's, that they call Dumpling Gems have different fillings for each color and are particularly challenging to make. When DTF first opened in Melbourne it took them a month after they opened, to perfect their colored dumpling gems and offer them for people to order. Their chili cucumber, mango rolls, pork potsticker dumplings, chili wontons dumplings, and thousand year old egg with pork floss are also very good.

Bit $$$$ but have to say the Xiaolongbao is pretty good. Skin is of the right thickness and texture. The juices / soup within??? Oh man!! Absolutely frickn great is all I can say! Can't say much about the dan dan mien though. Very average and no spice at all.

I'm one of the lucky few who has been to the original Din Tai Fung in Taiwan with some friends and locals. My experience of Melbourne's newest and most shiny dumpling house is eerily similar. I know that chain stores are meant to keep the quality and experience consistent between venues and Din Tai Fung is absolutely a product of that. My group of 4 friends arrived and were told we would need to wait around 15 minutes for a table to become ready. We were given a electronic buzzer to let us know when to come back and 15 minutes on the dot it started vibrating and beeping - food time! Entering the restaurant we were treated to the open kitchen (behind large glass windows) showing a army of chefs furiously folding their famous dumplings. It's a pretty incredible thing to watch. Every single staff member who walks past us treats us to a happy welcoming tune of "ni hao" (hello). The interiors are clean, modern and minimal with nice symmetry with the rest of the Emporium Shopping Centre. It fits the location perfectly. As we rested our coats on the chairs behind us our smiling waitress dashes over to put a protective cover over the top of them - just another mark of attention to detail this team goes to! We decide to order everything and I mean everything, delicious dumplings arrive followed by scrumptious noodles, rice dishes and just at the point when we think we can not stuff another single piece of food in our mouths a refreshing pot of tea is delivered to help wash it all down. The food while being tasty, fresh and filling is above average in price compared to similar places around town. As a whole I do like Din Tai Fung and would recommend a trip here for those who have not been before. If you are a dumpling aficionado then check out some other places in nearby China Town. For a chain restaurant this is how it should be.

Din Tai Fung's Xiao Long Bao (soup dumpling)

This may be a case of first-week jitters, but DTF Melbourne Emporium needs to lift its XLB game. While the familiar paper-thin dumpling skin and silky soup that DTF is famous for was present in their pork xiao long bao (soup-dumplings) tonight, the size and texture of the meat was disappointing. Don't get me wrong - it was still delicious, just smaller and less-refined than I remember. And a little more salt or, dare I say, MSG wouldn't have hurt either. Other dishes tried were sesame noodles, chilli wontons and pork bao. All very good, but again, not mind blowing. Decor-wise, the restaurant looks trendy and almost hipster-esque, with a curious c-shaped layout and oddly sprawled out dining table arrangement. Also be prepared to wait 30-60 mins for a table, as they don't take reservations. All in all, it's still very early days for Melbourne's first DTF restaurant. My tip, don't rush out to join the queues just yet. They have much to improve on.

The much hyped DTF finally comes to town after reproducing like a family of horny rabbits throughout Asia. Even the foul mouthed Karate chopping Anthony Bourdain claims that their XLBs are one of the best around (see IFC of menu)... Verdict - under seasoned! The dumpling skins are good, the texture is perfect the soup is fine but the mince pork, yes the most important minces of pork is under seasoned :-( Maybe a bit harsh and maybe I went there too soon after the opening and they've yet to refine their secret techniques. I don't know... but I had the house and sour soup and some veggies too and they seemed to miss the essential magic seasoning.

Hands down the best dumplings I've had in Melbourne. After 2 visits haven't had to wait for a table, or food with such speedy service, so I am a big fan! The only down side is that the vegetarian options are very, very limited. Especially if you want dumplings. Such a shame as the dumplings are an amazing highlight. If you're into delicious food (can't imagine you'd be reading this if not) and dumplings then you should go and eat here. IMMEDIATELY. Yum.

Din Tai Fung - where it's fame preceeds itself. First of all the waiting system that they use is absolutely genius. i love that you get to pick and choose from the menu before you get seated so it's quick and streamlined. Staff were really friendly and helpful. We got a variety of things - hot and sour soup, some xiao long baos, the fried chicken chop, a special pork noodle and the mango pudding for dessert. Everything was a delight. The noodles were so smooth they just slid down your throat, the dumplings burst in your mouth as you chewed on them and the chicken was crisp and tasty. We would've ordered more if we weren't already so full. Stay away from the matcha smoothie though, it was the only crap 'dish' of the day.

It is better to make reservations. For the dimsum I can say is average like other dimsum places I visited before. The menu is overwhelming. So many dishes to choose from. For dinner it was very nice as we had live crystal crab which I never had before. The meat is soft. The other dishes which good is the beef cube. It was so tender. The shark fin soup which is banned in US is good. Price wise, they are pretty pricey. Overall it was a good lunch and dinner

The service was great our waiters helped us accommodate a disability within my family and recommended us some great dishes. However, the restaurant is upstairs and the elevator was broken, which made it difficult for us to get up. The food: -Seafood fried rice: Really flavorful, with generous portions of dried scallop and crab. The rice was cooked just right and the serving was big enough that for a party of 3, we had quite a bit leftover. -Snow pea leaves in garlic: A favorite vegetable of mine, and this was cooked in an amazing garlic-y soup!! Such a clean and delicious dish -Egg tofu: This was my first time having egg tofu and they were so silky and smooth. They look a bit like scallop and are served with a good amount of broccoli and mushrooms! Honestly really addicting. - Steamed trout: This fish was very pricey, but that's normal for a live fish dish. It was huge- definitely enough to serve a party of 5-6. The fish was cooked to perfection and the sauce paired amazingly with the mild trout flavor. Highly recommend if you're feeling like splurging! This place is also nice, quiet, and clean inside during dinnertime. Really amazing experience overall!
