Hidden just off the main street of Marrickville up a few flights of stairs you walk in to a awesome bar with the roof painted with a huge Kama sutra mural and tin roof tiles and leather lounges. It's a Jazz club with live acts every night, its a bar lounge. It's sophisticated dark and intimate. " Once you're inside Step back", says the purple haired door mistress with the voice activated LED t shirt, "and look up". Apparently painted by a famous Sydney artist, there is a huge mural on the ceiling. The place was pumping on Friday night. Jimmy Vargas and Mia Mortal (say it slowly... ) Vargas like a Brian Ferry look-a-like is apparently a self titled 'Croonoir' from San Francisco's cabaret. Mia Mortal has been sashaying the burlesque scene for the past 25 years. The show was a stunner. The Owner Craig was at the door when we walked in, he told us he'd moved up from Melbourne, and had been running clubs like Lazybones for years. He said "If it's not underground, I'm not interested" I liked his Moxie, and I had to concur. The hipster scene seems finally on it's knees with the clientele here being an over 30s crowd. I admit, I felt very relaxed. I even saw a member of a well known Sydney rock band here. If you want to stay ahead of the game? Say Hello to sophisticated class! Lazybones you're doing it right. $10 on the door gets you entry. Wine and Beer are priced reasonably, cocktails at $18 seemed a little pricey, but it looked like top shelf liquor. The menu, while I didnt try it, featured "Bunny Chow" with pick your own topping for around $12 as I recall. There were also Samosas and curries. It's very loud on a Friday night, Adults only. Good for date night or a chilled out trip into sin alley.

Probably one of the best karaoke places I've been to in Chinatown so far. The equipment is very new…read more(touchscreen for selecting songs, and nice LCD screens including a big one in the main area), and easy to use (even for people who don't read Chinese) and has a good collection of songs. Best time to go is during the week (not Friday/Saturday nights) because its only $5 per person per hour. Though if I could change something to make this place better, I'd probably waive the $50 cash only deposit (especially if no-one drinks anything)

That was almost an hour and a half wait. We thought it'd be fine to wait it out if we got drinks and chilled. We entered. The placed was decked out and bumping for sure. Very spacious, very modern. I loved it. I felt like I was in Rush Hour 2. Got a shot. 10 bucks. Ouch. But standard I assume. Didn't take card cause they had a minimum. Ugh. There was a common area for everyone to observe whoever it was's turn to sing. To even get a chance for that, was another hour wait. Friends didn't like their pina coladas. Bathrooms were dope and beautiful. Took some bathroom selfies, not gonna lie. Left soon after we took our shots. Gotta plan ahead of time before coming here. Don't go on a whim like we did unless you wanna be disappointed.

The Pickled Possum. Could you get a more ocker name? I'm sure the alliteration was merely…read morecoincidental. The Possum has been a Military Road mainstay for years. It's a late-night karaoke joint, the place to go when all other places to go are shut and you're too drunk to go home or know better. It's packed with a motley crew of young and old, mainly old, and the damn place bangs. The husband and wife team behind the bar (at least I think it's a husband and wife team) are slow as molasses and scoop ice into your drink from a small esky atop the bar. It works. You don't come here to pick up, look good, or do anything other than caterwaul on the stage to shitty '80s power ballads and bad '90s RnB while the crowd in front of you sways put of time and spills beer on each other. Never go away, Pickled Possum. There is quite literally no other lace like you and never will be.

Their song list sits on 2 pieces of old A4 paper so expect to hear the same songs over and over again. The sound system is horrendous so you won't hear anyone's voices unless you're 2 metres from the stage. The 'DJ' who has english as a 3rd or 4th language is without charisma. Also as a bar it only serves bottled beer and if you're there first they won't let you sing until your group has bought enough drinks. Try anywhere else.
