Both appetizers we got were good but not too memorable; still great for sharing with your table. The main winner here was the Beef Sirloin! It was cooked to a perfect medium and had a nice char crust on the outside. They did an incredible job with preparing it and the side dishes just hit the spot. I loved the fresh tomato & onion salad and the addicting house-made French fries. I just couldn't get enough especially with the béarnaise sauce. The dessert was not your typical bread pudding; it's much lighter and softer. If you dine at Dinner22, definitely get something off their meat menu! You will be happy you did. read more

This is really a 3.5 stars experience. An interesting experience. Visited restaurant by myself for dinner. When I arrived at around 7 pm on Thursday, I pretty much got lucky scoring the last table left without the reservation. Decided to go with a fixed dinner menu, containing appetizer, entree, and dessert. There was also recommended wine selection, so I discussed it with the server, and he suggested that if I don't want to drink dessert wine, I would be better off just getting wine pairing for the first two dishes. Perfect. The first wine was Pinot Noir from New Zealand, and the first dish was deer Carpaccio. Both were excellent in its own right - good wine, tasty dish, the pairing worked together. Second wine poured was California Ghost Pines Chardonnay, which by the glass costs there as a whole bottle back in the USA. Okay, but then this is a mediocre wine, and while the cod was made very well, the pairing really didn't work. The dessert was advertised as chocolate ganache or so, but the actual dish had a large serving of the gelato in a middle, with tiny mounds of chocolate around. The most captive part of the dish was some chewy candy bits on top of the ice cream, in appearance resembling the salmon caviar, but an overall combination with gelato was excellent. Each chocolate mound had a piece of caramel inserted into it, which was really annoying as it was getting stuck to the teeth. So far the food was good, the wines were okay and not, but the worst part was service. Got half a glass of water poured, no pitcher left as on all other tables had to flag someone down to get more water despite sitting across from the bar where someone was constantly at. Nobody really cared if/how I liked the food etc., which, considering the food prices in Sweden was rather annoying. So we have food at 4.5, wines at 3 and service at 3. All in all, you decide if you want to eat there or not. read more

Service: great! Food: great! Wines: great! We went for a company dinner here, and were not disappointed. The breads at the starter were delicious. For us vegetarians, the starter course was roasted leek with a balsamic reduction and beet puree; it was very delicious, although the leeks were a tad rough and chewy. For the main, we had roasted parsnips with a white bean puree and something else; that was really delicious. And for dessert, creme brulee with raspberry sherbet. I think it was really smart pairing the tart sherbert with the sweet brulee. Cleansed the palate. With each dish, our waitress would bring out a paired wine; white with the starter, and red with the main. The service was excellent, and the food was excellent, as well as the atmosphere. Unfortunately, there was a mix up with booking online and we showed up 2 hours after the time the restaurant had us booked for. Since they had my credit card, they charged me the equivalent of $30 per person as a no show but were conveniently booked full when we got there. I never got an email so I don't know who had the wrong time but charging me $120 seems really unfair. The food might be good, but I never got the try it. Tourist, don't get trapped like I did by booking online. How frustrating. read more

Every so often you have a memorable meal, one that you'll remember for the rest of your life. There's just something about the entire dining experience that leaves you with an exceptional memory, one that you keep sharing with others. Dinner 22 provided me with just that kind of experience. While here in Gothenburg, on my own, I wanted a night that had at least some Swedish flavors, rather than going to Turkish food (quite good here) or pizza. The Yelp reviews led me to Dinner 22 and I am eminently thankful. I started by asking the waitress to recommend a beer...she first mentioned a lager they have on tap, but I like something richer in flavor. When she moved on to Gotlands Bryggeri's Sleepy Bulldog Pale Ale it was a no-brainer. Flavorful but well-behaved...just a little bite without any major after-taste. I asked my waiter (who was very helpful all night) to recommend an entree that somehow reflected Swedish cuisine. I had already spotted it on the menu, so his mention of Biff a lá Rydberg sealed the deal. It's not often that beef and potatoes grabs me before anything else on the menu, but "Wow!" The beef was tender, in just the right size junks, nicely browned but still rare on the inside. The balance was just right, completely avoiding the any sense of raw meat. The three sauces (horseradish, egg, red wine reduction) were all amazing and worked well in various combinations. And the potatoes were perfect, lightly browned, not at all burned and tender on the inside without any mushiness. Suffice it to say that it all disappeared, along with my beer. I hated to call it a night, so I ordered the Crème Brûlée, which is served with a berry compote. Each was exquisite on its own, and combining them just made them better. The caramelized sugar on the Crème Brûlée was nice and dark brown but again there was no burned taste at all, just the crispy topping in just the right proportion to the custard itself. The hardest decision I will have upon returning to Dinner 22 is whether to change anything. It might take me 2, 3 or even 4 visits before I could bear to not order the exact same meal. However, I have to assume that any item on the menu will be just as special. I highly recommend Dinner 22 if you are anywhere in the Gothenburg area! read more

It's as good as others say! Remarkably romantic restaurant with many pretty servers and excellent music (I notice these things). I had the Tuna and Scallop lemon risotto based on pics here, and it was everything I imagined! Delicious- good drinks too. it has outdoor seating, but much more romantic inside. We had been in Gothenburg a few days, and wanted to eat at an authentic Swedish place, serving Swedish food. Dinner 22 was it. Tucked into a small downstairs, street-side space, it feels warm and inviting, and like everywhere else we tried in Gothenburg, they never made us feel bad for not speaking much (any) Swedish. In fact, the servers spoke impeccable English! Although it is unmistakably Swedish, it felt in many ways like a little neighborhood Parisian bistro. The service, food, and wine were excellent, and I tried reindeer for the first time... no thanks to much joking about Rudolph from my colleagues. (No worries, it was probably Blitzen or one of the others.) It was excellent, and much less gamey than I expected. Not like venison at all, but more like very rich beef. The creme brûlée I had for dessert was better than what I had later in the week in Paris! The wine list is reasonable, and reasonably priced. If this restaurant were in my home town, it would be my regular hangout. Prices are moderately on the high side, but given the experience and quality, I would still say Dinner 22 is a great value for the money. Based on the glowing Yelp reviews, I dined at Dinner 22 while in town for a conference. The Biff a la Rydberg was really substantial and extremely tender. Perfectly cooked and the baked egg yolk was a wonderful accompaniment to the potatoes. The service was excellent and I definitely recommend giving this place a try. read more

We were in town for the Gothia Cup, and my wife and I were in search of a reasonably nice dining experience along the Sodra Vagan while our teenage daughter and niece hung out at Liseberg. Dinner22 was perhaps a little more upscale than we had planned, but it was well worth it. The host was quite accommodating, serving us a glass of wine at the front, while recommending that we wait briefly for a nice table by the window that was about to open. Once situated, we ordered the veal carpaccio and the Caesar salad for starters. Both were excellent, with the carpaccio particularly noteworthy for its perfect balance achieved with a generous portion of Parmesan crumbles. For the main, we shared the pan fried Char with sliced potatoes and mushrooms. This was outstanding, cooked to perfection, and served with a mild dill sauce. The portion was huge, so it was a good call to split it, although without other vegetables I could see a hungry couple wanting their own mains. Didn't have time to stick around for desert, unfortunately, but all told an excellent experience. read more

Don't get me wrong, this place had delicious food and the staff were all very nice. Why we only gave it 3 stars was the it was in general over-priced for what it was. The portions were good, but a little small for what they cost. The wines they offered were all pretty spendy which was a bummer- its always nice to see a variety of options price wise. We loved our food, and were happy with the experience, but maybe wouldn't rush to go back. read more

Dinner 22 was the perfect dinner location for our family of four (with grown up kids) having travelled down to Göteborg on a chilly winter night from Northern Sweden. A gracious welcome awaited us, and a real effort to accommodate us. The bar made all our favourite cocktails beautifully, and the wine list was high quality with a bias for organic wines - we plumped for a delicious Oregon Pinot. Food was well presented and delicious - with traditional Swedish fare being our choices - Toast Skagen to start, with a mix of steaks (best ever tasted according to one of our party) and fish as the main courses. Very popular venue with the locals; we were only one of two parties dining that evening that were not speaking Swedish, but we were made very welcome. Very romantic and cozy place. My sambo and I popped in for a weekday dinner and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and service. The prices were reasonable and the bread and wine were fantastic. We both ordered the angus steak, and loved it! The only issue was that some parts were fatty or chewy, but it was a large steak, so that happens. Also, it was difficult to get the check and go once we were finished, as it began to get full. Was in town for a conference, staying at Gothia Towers, and being wined and dined most nights, so the bar was high. They highly recommended Dinner 22 for one of our "free nights" on our own. We shared a salad to start (very fresh). I then had the venison carpaccio (very rich) and the reindeer entree (cooked perfectly, and accompanied by lingonberries), and my colleague had the halibut. Not only was I thrilled to have the opportunity to try reindeer, but it was an amazing dish -- I barely wanted to spare a bite for my dining companion to try. Everything was excellent, fresh, and perfectly cooked. The flavors in all the dishes from beginning to end were well balanced and satisfying down to the last bite. Beautiful room, great lighting, good food. I had the Skagen toast, which is (for the non-Swedes) a common appetizer that involves tiny shrimp on a crusty toast along with some greens and other stuff to make the taste interesting. Many restaurants in the area serve it and may even have a few different versions on the menu. Just order it and enjoy the good taste and the mixing of the different consistencies of the ingredients on your palate. For the dinner I had the reindeer filet. It was perfectly prepared and was as good as the best beef filet mignon I've ever had. Not gamey at all. The ubiquitous berries that were served in this dish made a nice relish for the meat. Food prices are reasonable, imo, for Gothenburg center. Wine list was a bit pricey - stuck with beer. Overall, would highly recommend this restaurant.
