People of the United Kingdom, let me introduce you to French dip sandwiches. It's one of the guilty pleasure American dining concepts worth importing and Dip & Flip is a great place to discover it Wimbledon Broadway's increasingly varied and interesting culinary offerings has been boosted by Dip & Flip's second location. They are entering quite a competitive market but from my dining experience, they are a welcome addition and should be here to stay Most customers will be drawn to Flip part of the menu with cooked to order delicious looking and smelling burgers. Certainly looked a lot more promising than the disappointing Five Guys a few doors down and cheaper to boot However, I was here for the rare-to-find-in-Britain French dip sandwich. The choice in the Dip part of the menu was roast beef or lamb, served with their appropriate accompaniments. For those unfamiliar with French dip, imagine slices of meat dipped in gravy in a brioche bun, served with more gravy in a bowl on the side. The idea is to saturate each meaty bready mouthful by dipping it into the gravy, a heavenly experience I discovered in the States The D&F sandwich was filled with excellent roast lamb but I did struggle to dip it effectively. It was generously overfilled and the next time, I shall push the meat in more fully into the sandwich before dipping. The bun held up well but I found myself making a bit of a mess on the tray. French dip is messy eating but perhaps not this messy! Kitchen towel is provided on the table as well as a clean up wet wipe. Engineering constructs aside, it was an excellent tasting meal though I'd probably omit the pickle and tone down the amount of mint sauce next time but that's just my palate Fries are interesting here. They're available plain with Australian seasoning, with squeezy American cheese or 'poutine' style with mozzarella cheese (not strictly poutine with no cheese curds) and grab or with added chilli too. I'm a huge fan of poutine, so the choice was easy. It was a slow night in the restaurant and their gravy wasn't piping hot, so my poutine, while nice, wasn't the melty cheesy gooey mess that it could be. To be fair, they took my comments on board and I shall be back Lastly, I had an excellent proper milkshake - the 330mls is enough. Alcohol is available at this sit down venue An excellent addition to the Wimbledon dining scene. I shall be back to try the more traditional beef French dip and with a few tweaks, 5 stars is on the cards. I'm excited! read more

I walk past this place everyday and have always been wondering what they meant with "dip and flip". Well only one way to find out! I made the bold choice of getting the spiciest thing on the menu; the green chili burger. Dip & flip definitely do not mess around with their burgers and when they say spicy, they mean the supernova-in-your-mouth kind of spicy. Oh god. Several times i asked myself what I had done. The fire just wont stop. I made it through 2/3 of the burger before I realised my tongue was on fire. For a good 5 minutes i had to constantly have a sip of milkshake in my mouth to make the pain stop. Other than that the burger was amazing. I like the idea of dipping the burger in sauce however I am not a huge fan of gravy so I am not completely sold on the idea. The milkshake saved my life and was very good as well. This wont be my favourite burger place but I would come here again. The staff is really lovely, cosy atmosphere with candles on the tables and good music playing, a bit loud though for conversation. read more

If ever I was on death row, a dip & flip burger would be my final meal. After a long day of shopping in and around Wimbledon, myself and Hannah were on the hunt for a cool, quirky place to eat. We initially headed toward a glowing "tex-mex" sign on the corner but got distracted by the word "gravy" on the window. As two northerners in London, that was almost akin to advertising cheap shots to students! Upon entry, we were greeted by an enthusiastic member of staff who thoroughly explained the specials and the milkshake of the month - the banofee pie. This milkshake was god of all milkshakes! Beautifully presented and perfectly finished, the taste was fantastic. I debated between the flip & dip burger an what Hannah was eating - the bacon double cheese burger. If you know me, you know the word bacon (like gravy) is a siren to me so I ended up ordering that. The sounds upon tasting the burger would make some people blush. I declared to Hannah that we'd made a great decision and we chowed down on the taste sensations until our stomachs said "no more!". The waitress checked up on us and sorted Hannah's fries query out with no fuss. The place may look pricey but I would gladly pay double now I have had the pleasure of the cool, quirky Dip & Flip! read more

Lovely staff, great atmosphere and probably the best vanilla milkshake I've ever had - sadly all let down by the star of the show! The bun was toasted to the point of burning, and I crunched on 3 bits of bone/gristle while eating (this is a meal ruin-er for me). From my experience there are much better burger options in Wimbledon, and so I sadly won't be returning (unless they do take away milkshakes...) read more

So I love Dip & Flip. Seriously, a branch opening in my neck of the woods has not been good for my waistline. I've tried several things from the menu, and they're all pretty faultless. My favourite is the bacon double cheeseburger. The burger patty, served medium, is perfectly cooked. Lovely with a bit of pink inside but a really nice slight charring outside. They're generous with their toppings too, the cheese just oozes out of this one. Oh yeah, D&F is messy - not somewhere for a first date! All burgers/sandwiches are served with gravy to dip. Today I had the Xmas special - the Dip & Flip burger (roast meat, cheese and burger) with turkey instead of the usual beef or lamb. As expected it was excellent - the turkey was lovely and moist. My companion had the secret menu item - The Farmyard. This was a monster - burger patty, butterflied breaded chicken, lamb, bacon, beef, cheese and egg. If you want a lot of food this one's for you, and it's quite reasonably priced at £16.10. Another favourite menu item of mine are the bacon and green chilli cheese fries, which are a bit like a poutine. Seriously filling though, you only need one portion between two of you. Shakes are good too - and the specials are usually pretty exciting. read more

Dropped in for lunch after seeing a review on the Londonist website, got nothing but praise, food was spot (go for a dip & flip burger) with quick friendly service, nice selection of drinks including a bourbon shot chased with pickle juice and gherkin bite (don't knock it till you try it) and a lovely Battersea ale! The Broadway in Wimbledon is fast becoming Burger Row with the well established GBK and Hot Pink grill and the recently opened Five Guys and Dip & Flip. The latter dares to be different by majoring on Craft Beer and Gravy! I really liked the quirky feel of the place with named school chairs and tables. The service is casual and friendly. My burger was delicious and came with a generous helping of fries and gravy in a tin dish. I washed it down with a milkshake that looked like a work of art. This small chain seems to have found a niche in an already crowded marketplace and they serve it very well. read more

Wow, just wow. I am still blown away by the burger I ate here last night, I rarely am in Wimbledon but a friend of a friend was in a play close by and I searched on Yelp and the reviews for this place were saying that they had the best burger in London. Now I'm a huge critic and I have a very high standard for quality burgers being from the USA so I was pretty sceptical when I saw "best burger in London" in a few reviews. It was enough to sway me and try it out at least once. I will definitely be coming back here. Come for the burgers and the dip, it's a nice touch and combo. I am a big fan of French dip, I might get it next time, but the bacon cheeseburger was killer, and I'll definitely be having it again. The chocolate shake I had was the right portion, good thickness but was surprisingly lacking in chocolate flavour. I also got the cheese and gravy fries, they were OK, not bad but not the best I've ever had. But OMG the burger. Go for the burger, you won't regret it! read more

Best burgers in London. I could end the review right there, but I think it's important to keep going. Most burger places in London dress up dry, tasteless burger patties with so many toppings, you aren't exactly sure what you're eating. Well, Dip & Flip starts with a really good burger patty, and works from there. I've had about everything on their menu, and you seriously can't go wrong here. Read basically any other review to find out why you need to try the Dip & Flip burger ASAP. The chicken sandwich is beyond perfect--the batter is thin and crispy and is stacked high, great for dipping in gravy. Cheesy fries are as close to heaven as one can get. The potato rosti is just as appealing, if you're a vegetarian--it's like brunch on a bun. If you're vegan or have a gluten-free diet, you might have a hard time eating here. That said, the waiters are all knowledgable and will help you figure out what you can and can't eat! read more

I was looking foward trying this place out after seeing the french dip on ManVFood. It's in a nice location, airy with lots of light and named seats. A good menu choice so for a family of 4 we had 3 bacon double cheeseburgers (oh wow burger heaven) which we loved - juicy, tasty and great sauce. One child meal which is good value my son really enjoyed it and it was a good size portion for a 9yr old. We did order a dipped beef sandwich but truthfully i was really disappointed the meat was chewy so when you took a bite all the meat came out. The gravy was weak so it didnt bring any taste to the sandwich. The prices of the milshakes were expensive at £5 for a tin for a family of 4 that's £20 just on drinks. We will be back for a bacon double cheeseburger and i really can recommend this but that's about it. Good friendly service with a smile read more

Theoretically, this place should be great. Good reviews, 2nd branch open to the success of the 1st one.... The reality let me down. General decor and vibe felt cheap, service was luke warm. The food was dull, luke warm too, burger was ok but not great, sliced beef was super soft but not rare in the slightest, gravy was thin, weak, lacking in flavour and thus, pointless. Chips had a weird seasoning on them. I had such high hopes of the place, they weren't fulfilled. There was 1 nice guy there who spoke to us beyond service requirements, but he couldn't make up for a disappointing meal. Dont believe the hype. read more

Oh HAI Dip&Flip! Nice to meet you! Wowsers, what can I say. I walked in here starving after a 14mile walk, and it did not disappoint. I've had the traditional Beef Dip sandwich in Canada, which I adored but never found anything close in the UK. And now, success! It's not the same, but it has the same aura, which is good enough for me ;) The guy serving us was super friendly and helpful. He recommended I have the full Dip&Flip (roast beef meets cheeseburger meets gravy pot) as I was starving and I was not disappointed. I wolfed the whole thing down with a huge smile on my face. For those unsure if roast beef and cheeseburger works together, well, it does. Feel no fear. Go for it :) The interior is basic but cool and comfy with a laid back atmosphere, and the prices are really reasonable for the size of the portions. The menu isn't huge, but you pretty much know what you're going in here for anyway, so just do it. My friend had the green chilli cheese burger and seemed equally pleased. Our only slight disappointment were the squeezy cheese fries, as they were a bit flavourless and the cheese wasn't runny enough. Nonetheless, I was seriously happy when I left. My grown up kids here a couple of times and they absolutely love it. Food is delicious and is very simple and fun atmosphere. Not somewhere to go if you want a 'posh' sit down meal but great before the cinema or on a day out. read more
